Abstract

The efficiency and stability of electrical power systems are greatly influenced by the power factor. A low power factor can lead to increased losses and higher electricity bills, especially in industrial environments. This study presents the implementation of an automatic capacitor bank control system using a Programmable Logic Controller(PLC) to optimize the power factor in an electrical installation. The system is designed to monitor reactive and active power in realtime, and automatically switch capacitor banks on or off based on the load condition. By utilizing PLC technology, the system ensures precision, reliability, and ease of modification according to operational requirements. Testing results demonstrate a significant improvement in power factor after the system is applied, as well as reduced reactive power consumption. This research contributes to the development of smart, automated solutions for energy efficiency in industrial power management systems.

Abstract

transformer, focusing on signal processing by the ADC module. The methods used include hardware design, simulation using MULTISIM, and experiments to determine the optimal parameters of the shunt resistor (R shunt) and capacitor to improve the relay response. The results show that the use of a current transformer (CT) with a ratio of 1000: 1 produces a secondary current that is too small (2.6mA - 7.7mA) to trigger the relay directly. By connecting two CTs in series and reversing the phase of one of them, the resulting voltage increases so that it is sufficient to activate the ADC module. The addition of R shunt (10K potentiometer) allows the secondary voltage to approach zero under normal conditions, while the use of a 4.7µF / 16V polar capacitor optimizes the performance of differential relay protection without sacrificing the indicator display function.

Abstract

Listrik yang digunakan untuk berbagai kebutuhan, secara terus menerus sehingga lnstalasi listrik harus di rawat dengan baik, Beban rumah tangga, pada umumnya berupa lampu untuk penerangan, alat rumah tangga, seperti kipas angin, pemanas air, lemari es, penyejuk udara, mixer, oven, motor pompa air dan lain sebagainya, untuk itu diperlukan perawatan instalasi berkala dengan mematuhi segala ketentuan, memenuhi kreteria dari PUIL yang menjadi dasar panduan instalasi, pada pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan pada relawan Masyarakat Sadar Listrik dimana evaluasi materi yang diberikan para peserta memiliki respon yang baik pada kegiatan tersebut dan pada pemahaman materi yang disampaikan dari hasil evaluasi pemahaman mencapai 95 % peserta memahami materi dan analisis masalah, dan dapat meneganalisis masalah dengan baik..

Abstract

Kegiatan Focus Group Discussion (FGD) ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi potensi dan tantangan diversifikasi peternakan pada lahan hutan rakyat dalam mendukung produksi biomassa h di Pantai Labu, Kabupaten Deli Serdang, Sumatera Utara. Melalui pendekatan partisipatif yang melibatkan kelompok tani, instansi pemerintah, akademisi, dan sektor swasta, ditemukan bahwa integrasi sistem silvopastura dan pengolahan limbah ternak menjadi sumber energi terbarukan (biogas dan kompos) berpotensi meningkatkan pendapatan petani sekaligus menjaga kelestarian lingkungan. Hasil FGD menunjukkan bahwa diversifikasi peternakan, seperti integrasi ternak ruminansia kecil dengan pola tanam agroforestri, memiliki potensi meningkatkan pendapatan petani hingga 20–30% melalui optimalisasi lahan dan pemanfaatan limbah biomassa. Selain itu, pendekatan ini dinilai mampu meningkatkan keberlanjutan lingkungan melalui pengurangan pembukaan lahan baru dan peningkatan kesuburan tanah. Sebagai tindak lanjut, direncanakan pengembangan model percontohan (pilot project) serta pendampingan teknis berkelanjutan untuk mendukung implementasi sistem secara lebih luas di kawasan sekitarnya Juga diperlukan penguatan kelembagaan, akses pembiayaan, serta pelatihan teknis untuk mendukung implementasi secara menyeluruh.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian tentang studi pengaruh bahan aditif NaCl dan Na-EDTA pada elektrolit baterai berbahan filtrasi air jeruk nipis. Selama ini elektrolit baterai dipakai H2SO4. Karena H2SO4 mengakibatkan gatal-gatal dan luka, bahkan bersifat racun bagi tubuh bila terhirup, maka dalam penelitian dilakukan penggantian elektrolit alternatif yang ramah lingkungan dari nabati yaitu menggunakan filtrasi air jeruk nipis (FAJN). Namun hasil yang didapatkan kurang baik sehingga  dilakukan penambahan bahan aditif larutan NaCl dan Na-EDTA kepada elektrolit FAJN. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dengan penambahan bahan aditif ini dapat meningkatkan karakteristik mendekati jenis elektrolit H2SO4, sehingga didapat tegangan yang dihasilkan sampai 7,40 Volt sedangkan elektrolit  FAJN murni saja hanya 6 Volt. Untuk ke depan akan dilanjutkan bagaimana dapat meningkatkan karakteristik elektrolit FAJN sehingga sampai sama dengan elektrolit H2SO4.

Abstract

Currently, the use of solar panels in Indonesia is still in a stationary position (static) so that the absorption of sunlight is less than optimal due to frequent weather, cloudy weather, and during the afternoon until the afternoon the suns light has turn back/or is not parallel to the solar panels. To obtain optimal electrical energy, the solar panel systems must be equipped with a control-systems and equipped with an RTC (Real Time Clock) sensor module which functions to provide real time data/or components to adjust the direction of the surface of the solar panel so that it always faces the sun at a given angle (tracking based on the movement of the earth) so that the energy from the suns ray can completely fall to the surface of the solar panel. And from the data obtained on December 13, 2021, the output produced by a 10 Wp solar panel tracking system for 9 (nine) hours with a 5 Watt lamp load produces a total power of 3.392 Wh while a non-tracking 10 Wp solar panel produces a total power of 19.658 Wh and the difference between the two 10 Wp solar panels is 15.732 Wh.

Abstract

Research has been conducted on the study of the effect of NaCl electrolyte on Pb-PbO2 electrode batteries. So far, H2SO4 battery electrolyte can have a negative impact, one of which can irritate the skin, it will even become toxic when inhaled by humans. For this reason, I tried to replace the use of the H2SO4 electrolyte with NaCl electrolyte so that a voltage of 6.73 volts was obtained while the H2SO4 electrolyte reached a voltage of 12 volts with an electrolyte that was more environmentally friendly. Furthermore, the NaCl electrolyte will be developed to increase the voltage yield equal to the H2SO4 electrolyte.

Abstract

One of the causes of accidents that occur on the road is a condition where there is an error in the human factor which lacks focus in observing the circumstances around the vehicle being driven. For drivers of large vehicles such as trucks, they have areas where sight cannot reach or what is commonly called a blind spot, which is due to the large dimensions so that the viewing angle is limited. This situation results in the risk of large vehicles hitting other drivers or other objects that are in the blind spot area. This study aims to design a tool to assist drivers in providing information and warnings if there is an object in the blind spot area. This tool uses an ultrasonic sensor as an object detector, as well as an information system that is sent via wifi and displayed on the Blynk application to determine the distance and location of objects. Testing is carried out by applying it directly to the vehicle to determine the performance of the tool on the vehicle

Abstract

Gerakan pelestarian lingkungan di hutan kanal Kecamatan Medan Johor yang dalam beberapa hari lalu dilakukan oleh Dosen Fakultas Teknik Universitas Medan Area. Pelestarian lingkungan saat ini telah berkembang dan menjalar di Indonesia sebagai upaya penyelamatan lingkungan. Mengingat pesatnya penduduk dan masih rendahnya kesadaran untuk menjaga lingkungan sehingga menimbulkan berbagai permasalahan lingkungan. Untuk memperbaiki kualitas lingkungan hidup maka perlu diadakan beberapa upaya pelestarian lingkungan hidup bekerjasama antara Fakultas Teknik Universitas Medan Area dalam hal ini diwakili Dosen dan mahasiswa bersama masyarakat setempat. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk membantu menangani permasalahan lingkungan yang terjadi, memberikan motivasi dan contoh nyata melalui upaya pelestarian lingkungan yang diterapkkan di lingkungan hutan kanal agar mahasiswa memiliki kepekaan, rasa cinta dan perasaan memiliki untuk bersama mengelola serta menjaga kelestarian lingkungan disekitanya. Kegiatan pelestarian lingkungan ini menggunakan metode deskriptif, melalui suatu tindakan nyata dalam upaya pelestarian seperti penanaman bibit pohon, pengadaan tempat sampah dan kerja bakti pembersihan lingkungan di hutan kanal. Kesimpulannya bahwa kegiatan ini dapat terselenggara secara baik dan lancar, hal ini tidak terlepas dari partisipasi dan dukungan berbagai pihak didalamnya. Tidak hanya itu, upaya pelestarian lingkungan hidup yang dilakukan pada lingkungan hutan kanal memberikan manfaat bagi mahasiswa maupun para dosen dan masyarakat setempat. Selain lingkungan hutan kanal menjadi bersih dan sehat, mereka termotivasi untuk melestarikan lingkungan hidup sekalipun dengan hanya menanam pepohonan, membuang sampah pada tempatnya serta gotong royong membersihkan lingkungan disekitarnya.

Abstract

In the current digital era, managing books and print media is still a challenge for many individuals. In an effort to overcome this problem, this research proposes a Smartbook Cabinet design that combines Arduino and smartphone technology. This Smartbook Cabinet aims to simplify the management and search for books more efficiently. This Smartbook Cabinet is equipped with a QR code-based book marking system which is connected to a smartphone application. By using a smartphone, users can scan the QR code on each book they want to find or. Arduino acts as the brains of this system, coordinating interactions between the bookshelf and the smartphone app. The results of this research show that the Smartbook Cabinet can increase efficiency in book management and provide easy access to users. Users can quickly find the books they are looking for via the smartphone application, and the book condition monitoring system will keep the book collection well maintained. Thus, this Smartbook Cabinet provides an innovative solution for smarter and more efficient book management, utilizing Arduino and smartphone technology to achieve this goal.
