Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, all activities must be carried out at home, which makes us further away from nature. Productivity, health, and well-being must be in balance. The biophilic design approach of dwelling allows occupants to experience space and nature, both directly and indirectly. The qualitative method conducted through a literature review on biophilic design is the foundation for housing design. Therefore, implementing a biophilic strategy should accommodate occupancy needs and create spatial quality and the value of the design pattern. The design method is carried out by analyzing space requirements, evaluating case studies, and elaborating on biophilic design attributes. Applying these principles is manifested through characteristics of space, forms of play, and play elements. The outcome of the interaction of residents, buildings, and nature will accelerate the new normal; permanent residents can experience health and well-being.

Abstract

Violence against women and children is a serious issue in Indonesia, including in South Tangerang City, affecting various layers of society and having negative physical and psychological impacts. Proper and integrated intervention is a duty to protect and rehabilitate the victims. The design of a safe house is proposed as a solution for addressing cases of violence against women and children in Indonesia. This safe house is designed with a therapeutic architecture approach, taking into consideration an environment that supports the recovery process of the victims. The aim of this design is to create a safe, comfortable, and supportive environment for the physical and psychological recovery of the victims. The safe house is designed with a concept that focuses on spatial layout, the selection of soothing colours, appropriate lighting arrangements, and the use of natural elements such as plants and water to create an environment that supports the healing process. Additionally, the safe house is equipped with facilities that support recovery activities, such as counselling rooms, play areas, communal spaces, and living quarters. It is hoped that this safe house will serve as a place of protection for female and child victims of violence, where they can receive support, guidance, and comprehensive recovery. The safe house is expected to provide a real solution for addressing cases of violence and offer protection and opportunities for victims to start a better life anew.

Abstract

A case study is a research approach that focuses on one or multiple real-life cases as the subject, encompassing both concrete entities such as individuals, groups, or organizations, as well as abstract constructs like processes, networks, or projects. This approach is employed to in-deep investigate complex issues and has been applied in various disciplines, such as; the social sciences, humanities, management, psychology, and architecture. The specific characteristics of a case study involve thorough exploration and analysis, data collection from diverse sources, and identification of key themes within the case. The strength of case studies lies in their ability to combine quantitative and qualitative data, enabling researchers to gain a profound understanding of the processes and outcomes of a phenomenon. This study applies a systematic literature review from several credible scholar articles. Two architectural case study researches are selected as precedents to provide a concrete overview of the characteristics, strengths, weaknesses, and procedural framework of implementing the case study approach. Analysis is conducted by comparing various gathered data to discern the potential for case studies to contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the complexity of issues and the quest for their solutions.

Abstract

The pandemic has forced children to play, study and worship at home. However, online children's worship must have the same purpose as the previous ones. Praise, stories and activities are created by considering the child's physical, cognitive, motor and verbal abilities. This activity, which is part of the GKI GS children's commission, is carried out online every Sunday at 10.30-11.45 WIB. The implementation focuses on children aged 7-8 years (grade 2), totaling 47 children. Mentoring includes activity sessions. Lecturers interactively and innovatively package and deliver each session through various creative learning media. Feedback, which is a photo or video of activity sent through the parent group. The curriculum adapts to the elementary school academic calendar. In the first 2 (two) months, less than 20% of children gave feedback, but in March-May the number of feedbacks increased. Although children's worship is currently online, through mentoring activity sessions that are packaged creatively to support the theme of worship, it is hoped that children will be more active, interactive, increase learning motivation and of course increase children's creativity.

Abstract

Biophilic design is a design approach that integrates natural elements into the built environment. Biophilic research has rapidly expanded into design, health, psychology, and technology. This study aims to explore trends of biophilic research, identify the relationships between scientific concepts, and reveal opportunities for further research. This library-based study employs a literature review method using bibliometric analysis. Digital data collection was obtained through Google Scholar for 2004-2024 with keywords 'biophilic', 'biophilic design', 'nature connection', and 'biophilia hypothesis'. Meta-data collection was conducted using Publish or Perish (PoP). Subsequently, VOSviewer was employed to create scientific maps for bibliometric analysis, and lens.org was utilized to conduct performance analysis. The findings reveal that over the past two decades, the number of publications on biophilic research in scientific journals has grown across various academic disciplines. Keyword-based mapping indicates the existence of conceptual relationships in psychology, environment, architecture, and ecology with six dominant clusters, namely; 'biophilic design strategy', 'biophilic urbanism', 'biophilic design framework', 'wellness and mental health', 'healing', and 'biophilic elements'. Based on these results, there are significant opportunities for further biophilic research in architecture and psychology scope, focusing on the design of built environments that incorporate natural elements into the built environment.

Abstract

The density of urban areas caused by urban development and urbanization flows causes various problems that have an impact on the activities and routines of urban communities. Limited activities and space for movement are one source of boredom and stress for city residents. In dense urban areas, the existence of green open spaces is very limited so there is a lack of space for physical activities such as sports and recreational activities to reduce feelings of boredom and stress. Urban tourism is one of the urban tourism resources, which functions as a temporary diversion, pause and a short stop for urban communities from the hustle and bustle of the city. Scientia Square Park and Tebet Eco Park are examples of green spaces in densely populated areas that are suspected of being able to divert urban communities from the density of city activities. Under human needs where they need entertainment and relaxation areas to relax the mind, the study results show that these two parks provide space for the surrounding community to interact socially, relax, and become a place of recreation. This study, which is qualitative research, aims to map the functions and zones of open space activities through physical observation. Data search was carried out using the place-centered mapping technique. Photos are visualized graphically and analyzed interpretively based on the zones and functions of the activities. The hope for the future is that by knowing the function and zoning of activities, urban tourism can be presented through open spaces that can support the restoration function of dense urban activities.
