Abstract

Modern technological developments substantially impact many essential areas, including teaching English as a second language. Science and commercial advancements depend on the ability of specialists around the world to communicate using English. This motivates instructors to switch from teaching English in general to teaching English for Specific Purposes (ESP), which focuses on assisting students in achieving language proficiency. In Banjarmasin, Indonesia, vocational high schools provide English for Business as a division of ESP. Since no monograph book gives learning models for teachers on how to teach English in a way that is acceptable and engaging to students, challenges develop while teaching English in vocational schools, especially for students majoring in business. This research aims to produce a monograph on teaching models of English for Business due to the significance of meeting teaching and learning aims and the lack of suitable references for teaching English to business students in vocational high schools, especially in wetland areas. This study employs a research and development approach since it wants to create a product while considering requirements analysis. It is believed that the findings of this study would help teachers deliver effective and worthwhile instruction in wetland areas while also raising students' academic achievement.

Abstract

Foreign Language Anxiety (FLA) remains a significant barrier to effective language learning, often manifesting as fear, self-doubt, and avoidance of communication. While many studies have explored the causes and effects of FLA, few have investigated its potential solutions, particularly through the lens of social interaction. This study explores how language learners perceive the role of social interaction in reducing anxiety, and what forms of interaction are considered most supportive. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven Indonesian learners aged 19–21 who had experienced FLA. Thematic analysis revealed three major findings: (1) learners overwhelmingly preferred paired practice over group activities due to reduced pressure and more personalized feedback; (2) interaction with lecturers often heightened anxiety because of hierarchical power dynamics and fear of evaluation; and (3) some learners never experienced moments of growing confidence, indicating fixed mindsets and a lack of positive reinforcement. The study highlights the importance of emotionally safe learning environments, anxiety-sensitive feedback, and structured peer interaction. These findings suggest that rethinking classroom dynamics—particularly by incorporating dyadic tasks and reducing evaluative stressors—may better support learners in managing FLA.

Abstract

The literacy skills of Indonesian children remain relatively low, while elementary school teachers play a crucial role in fostering reading interest and shaping students’ character through educational media such as children’s stories. However, many teachers still lack the ability to write engaging and meaningful stories that suit students’ psychological development. To address this issue, this community service program focuses on training elementary school teachers in Bandar Lampung to write educational children’s stories. The training aims to enhance teachers’ creativity and writing competence in producing stories that are not only entertaining but also instill character values such as honesty, responsibility, and cooperation. The activities are conducted through a participatory approach involving material presentation, writing practice, and mentoring sessions. The results indicate an improvement in participants’ understanding, skills, and positive attitudes toward writing educational children’s stories, as reflected in the comparison between pre- and post-training evaluations.   Kemampuan literasi anak-anak Indonesia masih tergolong rendah, sementara guru sekolah dasar memiliki peran penting dalam menumbuhkan minat baca serta membentuk karakter siswa melalui media edukatif seperti cerita anak. Namun, banyak guru belum memiliki keterampilan menulis cerita anak yang menarik, bermakna, dan sesuai dengan perkembangan psikologis siswa. Untuk menjawab permasalahan tersebut, kegiatan pengabdian ini difokuskan pada pelatihan penulisan cerita anak edukatif bagi guru sekolah dasar di Kota Bandar Lampung. Pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kreativitas dan kompetensi menulis guru dalam menghasilkan cerita anak yang tidak hanya menghibur, tetapi juga sarat nilai-nilai karakter seperti kejujuran, tanggung jawab, dan kerja sama. Kegiatan dilaksanakan melalui pendekatan partisipatif yang meliputi penyampaian materi, praktik penulisan, dan pendampingan. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman, keterampilan, serta sikap positif peserta terhadap penulisan cerita anak edukatif, yang tercermin dari perbandingan hasil evaluasi sebelum dan sesudah pelatihan.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan membantu panti asuhan Al Falah Yasmuba, dengan memberi pelatihan bahasa Inggris komunikatif berbasis game anak-anak di yayasan tersebut mampu berkomunikasi dengan menggunakan bahasa Inggris secara lisan dengan lebih baik. Pencapaian tujuan tersebut dilakukan melalui pelatihan dengan metode meliputi: (1) Memberikan pelatihan dan workshop dengan menyajikan materi melalui tatap muka langsung mengenai pentingnya bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa Internasional, (2) memberikan pelatihan bahasa Inggris komunikatif berbasis game kepada anak-anak Panti Asuhan Al Falah Yasmuba. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan yang diberikan mampu meningkatkan pemahaman peserta terhadap kemampuan Bahasa Inggris. Setelah mengikuti pelatihan terlihat bahwa motivasi siswa meningkat dan ketertarikan terhadap pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris meningkat. Berdasarkan suasana pelatihan yang diamati pemateri pada saat pelatihan berlangsung, materi dan praktik games terbukti bisa membuat peserta pelatihan belajar bahasa inggris secara aktif, komunikatif, serta menyenangkan. Adapun saran yang dapat diajukan dari hasil program P2M, bagi para pengajar bahasa inggris metode berbasis game ini dapat digunakan dikelas pada situasi apapun baik formal maupun non formal dan terbukti menyenangkan bagi murid dalam belajar bahasa inggris. Abstract

Kemampuan literasi yang rendah di kalangan masyarakat Indonesia khususnya pada anak-anak mendorong kegiatan pengabdian ini diadakan. Taman bacaan edukatif diharapkan dapat meningkatkan motivasi membaca siswa dalam membaca menjadi hal yang menyenangkan atau kesenangan membaca. Motivasi membaca yang meningkat secara tidak langsung juga akan meningkatkan kemampuan literasi dan nilai akademik siswa. Kegiatan pengabdian ini menggunakan sistem penugasan di mana anak-anak panti asuhan Al Falah Yasmuba yang duduk di bangku SMP diajak untuk membaca buku yang telah disediakan sebanyak 1 buku setiap minggu selama 4 minggu.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the levels of innovative thinking, growth, and a fixed mindset among higher education students in Indonesia. This study also examined the association between mindset and innovative ideas. This cross-sectional study involved 294 students from 2 higher education institutions. Descriptive statistics, t-test, and regression analysis were employed to analyse the data. The results of this study suggest that most students tend to generate new ideas frequently. Students in the health program have lower growth beliefs, growth practices, and effort, and firmer fixed beliefs than students in another program. A growth mindset significantly predicts the generation of innovative ideas. This study contributes to the literature review and teaching practice.
