Abstract

The Arabic language has peculiarity and differentiating characteristics that distinguish it from other foreign languages. This study investigates the existence of Arabic language learning during the pandemic period by conducting a thorough review of the Arabic language learning process from both an internal and an external standpoint. The method of writing this article is based on a study of literature comparison. The author conducts an online search for primary literature using valid criteria, and a reputable source—data analysis is performed using the content analysis paradigm. This study demonstrated the positive impact on the internal environment: 1) Lecturers and students gained greater proficiency in using applications that can be integrated into the learning process. 2) The assignment method changes from academic to project-based assignments, 3) Students become more proficient in using social media as tools for learning. 4) Arabic learning occurs from any location and at any time of day. The internal negative consequences are as follows: 1) memorizing qawaid or tashrif, in which case it is not easy to assess students' abilities through online instruction without face-to-face interaction; 2) Explanation of the material when face to face is considered more straightforward; 3) Unstable networks cause the inability to concentrate and focus. The external consequences are as follows: 1) a large number of linguistic webinars about Arabic, 2) The number of research references, research articles, and scientific journals are growing; 3) It is becoming easier to hold memorandums of understanding between collages from different regions.

Abstract

This paper explores the stages of speaking skill's online lectures using the Zoom Cloud Meeting media as well as the advantages and disadvantages of the Zoom Cloud Meeting media. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with three data collection techniques, namely observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that there were several stages used by lecturers in the implementation of speaking skill lectures using Zoom Cloud Meeting media, namely: (1) Pre-Lecture, (2), Lecture Implementation, (3) and Class Evaluation. There are several features of the Zoom Cloud Meeting media used by lecturers in the implementation of speaking skill lectures such as Schedule, mute & unmute, record, chat, and whiteboards. Researchers also found several advantages regarding the implementation of speaking skill lectures using Zoom Cloud Meeting media such as flexibility in the lecture process, increasing discipline for lecturers and students, and several additional features that can support the smooth implementation of lectures. However, the implementation of lectures using this media is also inseparable from shortcomings such as a poor internet network and limited duration of the free Zoom Cloud Meeting media which can only be used for 40 minutes. From the results of this study, it is hoped that it can provide alternative solutions for lecturers in dealing with online lectures in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Arabic Language Education study program students at IAIN Palangka Raya are prospective Arabic teachers who are prepared to have foreign language competence, but students still experience difficulties for various reasons. It makes all PBA Education study program lecturers simultaneously implement several activities in selected subjects to build literacy in reading books in foreign languages, both Arabic and English. This research aims to describe the process carried out by lecturers in building reading literacy of foreign language books, either Arabic or English, on PBA students in IAIN Palangka Raya. This research used the descriptive qualitative method. Data was collected from the interview, observation, and documentation, then further analyzed through data reduction, presentation, and verification, and validated with the triangulation method. The initial result of this research indicated that the lecturers do various activities to build students’ reading literacy, those are: introducing reading references in Arabic and English language, explaining the advantages of reading these references to the students, giving insight into reading steps, assigning students to review the references, and assisting students in composing and publishing scientific papers. This research suggests writing literacy for students and further research on different subjects and locations.

Abstract

This study explores the students' perceptions of the results of Contextual Teaching Learning (CTL) implementation in the Arabic speaking skill lectures based on the typical characteristics of the Student-Centered Learning approach in their class. The researchers need information on whether implementing a method in the context of the Arabic language skills in tertiary institutions meets the Student-Centered Learning approach criteria. In addition, most of the research still focuses on describing the method's implementation. It ignores the achievement of the method on the criteria for the Student-Centered Learning approach. This study uses an exploratory investigation to understand implementation results in-deeply. Thirty AFL students with different cultural backgrounds completed a questionnaire about their perceptions of successful implementation. The findings reveal that implementing CTL in teaching the Arabic speaking skills meets the typical characteristics of the Student-Centered Learning approach. Moreover, some students also give positive suggestions to achieve a more optimal standard. Therefore, this study provides some recommendations and directions for further studies.

Abstract

This research discusses the steps of Arabic language learning reflection that can improve students' listening skills. The research method used is a qualitative method with a narrative approach. The research data was collected from in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The data generated were in the form of interview transcripts, field notes, observation notes, written documents, and video recordings. As for analyzing the data, the researcher used a narrative approach that involved the process of reading and understanding the data that had been collected, then identifying the main patterns and themes that emerged from the data. Furthermore, researchers categorized, compared, and connected these themes to make interpretations and understand the meaning obtained. The findings of this study show that activities such as listening then guessing style, listening then expressing meaning, listening then making sentences, and listening then writing sentences quickly can help improve students' listening skills. This research shows that although the use of innovative methods and media in Arabic language learning is quite diverse, there are still various problems that have not been covered, especially in terms of students' listening skills. The novelty of this study lies in the focus on strengthening learning reflection which can be a guide for teachers to improve the quality of their learning.
