Abstract

The learning process of mathematics, especially the one related to the characteristic of cylinder, at elementary school or at the other higher level of school only required the students to memorize the concept of it without comprehending its meaning. Based on that reason, it is a need to have an appropriate learning approach to help the students in understanding the characteristics of cylinder. This research aims to describe the learning activity of cylinder characteristic by using Realistic Mathematics Education (RME). There were five students of grade V from SDN 3 Sigli who were involved in this study.Byusing the approach, the students were motivated to learn about cylinder characteristics more meaningfully. The use of the appropriate context that matches with the students culture also became a strong foundation for them in possessing a meaningful experience toward the material. It also can lead them to have more formal learning experiences (identifying the characteristics of cylinder). There were three kinds of activities that are conducted in the study and were related to introduction the characteristicsof cylinder. They were glueing by using different colour, drawing a tissue place, and unloading the model of the tissue place. The use of concrete objects that relates to the culture of the students to develop their ability in understanding the material of the cylinder was the first step in learning the cylinder volume concept

Abstract

This research discusses the concept and application of hypotheses and hypothesis testing in the field of education. Hypotheses have an important role in directing the research process, especially in quantitative approaches. However, many novice researchers still do not thoroughly understand how to formulate hypotheses and choose appropriate testing methods, so there are often errors in data interpretation. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method of relevant literature on statistical hypotheses, types of hypotheses, common errors in testing, and their application in educational research. This article emphasizes the importance of understanding how to formulate and test hypotheses appropriately to increase the validity of research results. Examples of application in education are presented to demonstrate the role of hypothesis testing in assessing learning methods and student behavior. It concludes that mastery of hypothesis formulation and application is essential for researchers and educators in supporting data-driven decision-making and is beneficial in improving the quality of learning.

Abstract

Education plays a crucial role in honing students' critical thinking skills. To achieve this goal, a study developed and tested the validity of the Problem-Based Ubiquitous Learning (PBU-L) model. This model combines Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Ubiquitous Learning (U-Learning), enabling students to learn collaboratively anywhere and anytime. This study employed a research and development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model, but focused solely on the design and validation stages. The subjects were 20 elementary school teacher education (PGSD) students at Syiah Kuala University. Data were collected through model validation sheets and learning tools assessed by six experts. Validity testing using the Aiken's V method showed that the PBU-L model and Semester Learning Plan (RPS) had high validity, with an average coefficient of 0.89. These results demonstrate that the PBU-L model is feasible for implementation. Overall, this model is designed to support active, collaborative, and contextual learning, highly relevant for enhancing critical thinking skills in the digital age.

Abstract

Geometry is one of the mathematics topics that often causes difficulties for junior high school students because it requires visual-spatial abilities and a structured understanding of concepts, leading to misconceptions and procedural errors that impact students' low learning achievement. This research aims to develop a diagnostic test to identify learning difficulties in seventh-grade students regarding geometry material. Researchers used the Research and Development method with the Tessmer model. This stage begins with the preliminary stage, which is conducted thru an analysis of materials and curriculum to design the initial 40 test items. At the self-evaluation stage, the questions are reviewed and refined before being validated. The expert review stage involved two validators, and the initial results showed that 35 questions were suitable and 5 needed revision. In the second stage, all questions were declared suitable. One-on-one testing with several students showed the questions were understandable without further revision, while small group testing with 60 students resulted in 18 questions being acceptable, 17 needing revision, and 5 being eliminated. The final results show 11 easy questions, 28 medium questions, and 1 difficult question, with a reliability coefficient of 0.826, which is considered very high. This diagnostic test is able to identify students' difficulties in understanding concepts, procedures, and misconceptions. Thus, the developed instrument is effective in mapping students' learning weaknesses and supporting more targeted lesson planning.

Abstract

Aceh Province, which is a Special Autonomous Region based on Islamic Sharia, based on 2021 data shows that the implementation of the Teaching Factory has not yet occurred completely in all vocational schools in Aceh. This is a strong indication that the main factor has not yet seen the outcomes expected by the community. Seeing the gap in the quality of Teaching Factory implementation among vocational schools in Aceh, it is necessary to conduct a study regarding the integration of Islamic education through the Teaching Factory model as an effort to develop learning attitude and work ethic of students in vocational schools in Aceh. The research design used is a sequential explanatory design or combination model research. The total sample for quantitative data was 228 respondents using the Structural equation Modeling analysis method. Meanwhile, for qualitative data, the sample size was 509 respondents. Quantitative data analysis uses the Structural equation Modeling analysis method, while qualitative data describes the results descriptively by linking them to existing facts and supporting theories from the results of data integration from the implementation of the Teaching Factory and Islamic Education. The research results show that teaching and learning activities in vocational schools are not just coincidental or incidental, but are part of a planned effort to integrate Islamic education into the learning system and daily life through Teaching Factory learning. This integration has a positive and holistic impact on students' personalities, skills, attitude, and values, with a focus on success in the world of business run according to Islamic principles.

Abstract

Mathematical connection skills are very important to be developed in students because they can develop new mathematical ideas in solving mathematical problems, can connect mathematical concepts, and can see and relate problems from various different points of view. Facts in the field show that the students' mathematical connection ability is still low. One alternative that is assumed to help improve mathematical connection skills is the application of the Discovery Learning model. The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement of students' mathematical connection abilities after the Discovery Learning model was applied as a whole and based on indicators of mathematical connection ability. The research method used was a quasi-experimental design with a Pretest-Postest Control Group Design with a sample class VIIIA and VIIIB. Class VIIIA as many as 25 students as the experimental class and class VIIIB as many as 23 students as the control class. Data were collected using a mathematical connection ability test which was then analyzed using independent t-test and n-gain. The results of the study were: (1) The improvement of students' mathematical connection ability was better after being taught with the Discovery Learning model; and (2) there was an increase in the students' mathematical connection ability after the application of the Discovery Learning model for each indicator, namely the ability to connect between mathematical concepts increased by 44%; the ability to relate mathematics to other disciplines increased by 28%; and the ability to relate mathematics to everyday life increased by 36%.Keywords: Discovery Learning Model, Mathematical connection ability
