Abstract

This study investigates the speech acts in Hayle Bieber’s motherhood journey interview with WSJ.Style using Searle’s framework (1979), containing an illocutionary point, direction of fit, and psychological state. Employing qualitative content analysis, 34 units of utterances were identified. The discoverers emphasize that assertive (58,82%) dominates the result, followed by expressive (38,24%) in the second position. This determines that Hailey Bieber interviewed to share her experiences and express emotions as a new mom. In a case of direction of fit, most utterances are identified as word-to-world, portraying her tendency to describe events that correspond to reality. Hence, null fit emerges in expressive utterances to cover her personal emotions. Otherwise, psychological state represents belief and emotions, which are proven based on her statements on personal conviction and affective responses. Certainly, the findings expose that Hailey Bieber builds an identity as a reflective and emotionally attached mother. Furthermore, this study verifies how speech acts determine personal branding in celebrities’ media interviews and contributes to a deeper understanding of language use attached to emotions.

Abstract

This study analyzed Yılmaz Köylü's TED Talk on future education using a corpus-based approach to identify key lexical features and provide insights into its linguistic structure. The analysis involved transcribing the TED Talk and examining various linguistic metrics, including word frequency, document length, vocabulary density, readability, and collocations using Voyant Tools. The results indicated that the talk contains 2,740 words, with 706 unique forms, demonstrating a rich and varied vocabulary. Key themes such as education, technology, skills, creativity, and innovation were prominent, emphasizing their interconnected roles in shaping the future of education. The readability index corresponded to a 10th-grade level, making the content accessible to a wide audience. Additionally, the analysis revealed a high average number of words per sentence, indicating the use of complex sentence structures. Recommendations for improving readability included simplifying sentences by breaking longer ones into shorter, more concise statements. The study underscores the need to adapt education systems to meet the evolving demands of a rapidly changing world, with technology and creativity playing central roles.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze one of Deddy Corbuzier's podcast titles on YouTube using Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach. Analysis was carried out on three dimensions of CDA, namely text, discourse practice, and social practice. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with the CDA Fairclough approach. The CDA approach allows for in-depth analysis of how podcast titles reflect and shape ideology, power, and identity. The research results show that the podcast title contains complex discourse content and is related to relations of power and domination in society. The findings reveal that the title reflects societal discontent with governmental performance and advocates for new leadership capable of fostering positive change. Fairclough's CDA illuminates how the title constructs and reinforces power relations within Indonesian society, employing provocative language to incite debate and engage viewers emotionally. This analysis underscores the role of media in shaping   DOI: public discourse and influencing perceptions. By critically evaluating media content, this study contributes to understanding how language and discourse strategies can shape ideological perspectives and societal expectations. Ultimately, the podcast title serves not only as a critique of current governance but also as a catalyst for broader discussions on leadership and societal transformation in contemporary Indonesia.
