Abstract

AbstractThis study analyzes the development model of the Mekar Sari Joint Business Group (KUBE) in Bengkalis Regency using a maslahah approach. KUBE Mekar Sari, a sewing business entity established in 2021, faces significant challenges in terms of sustainability and independence, particularly related to lax internal management, unsystematic financial management, and minimal member participation and effective external assistance. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, data was collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. Analysis was conducted through the lens of maslahah (maqashid al-syari'ah), encompassing hifz al-Dīn, hifz al-Nafs, hifz al-‘Aql, hifz al-Nasl, and hifz al-Māl. The findings indicate that although KUBE Mekar Sari has internalized ethical values (hifz al-Dīn) and provides work flexibility that supports psychological well-being and family responsibility (hifz al-Nafs and hifz al-Nasl), there is a significant gap in the aspects of asset management (hifz al-māl) and knowledge development/participation (hifz al-‘aql). This study concludes that the KUBE Mekar Sari development model is not yet optimal in achieving holistic well-being due to fundamental weaknesses in internal management and the quality of mentoring. Therefore, it is recommended to strengthen internal management based on maslahah, improve the quality of sustainable mentoring, and develop members' capacity to achieve greater independence and sustainability. Keywords: Cooperative Business Group (KUBE), Maslahah, Economic Empowerment, Case Study, Maqashid al-Syari'ah

Abstract

Productive zakat is a strategic instrument for reducing poverty and enhancing community welfare, yet its implementation often encounters managerial and contextual challenges. This study aims to analyze the strategy of Dompet Dhuafa Waspada in Medan’s in empowering mustahik through productive zakat programs, specifically those involving business capital grants, skills training, and continuous mentoring within the Menjahit Harapan Dhuafa programme, Livestock Center, and Rumah Tempe initiatives. Using a qualitative case study approach supported by the SOAR (Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations, Results) framework, data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observations, questionnaires, and documentation. The findings show that Dompet Dhuafa Waspada in Medan possesses strong internal capacities (score 19.6) and clear strategic aspirations (score 19.4), positioning the institution in the SA quadrant, which emphasizes maximizing strengths to achieve long-term goals. The study reveals that the implementation of productive zakat includes structured business assistance, capital distribution, skills development, and marketplace facilitation; however, the program also faces several challenges. These include limited capital scalability, variability in mustahik entrepreneurial readiness, dependence on external market dynamics, and constraints in long-term monitoring. Despite these obstacles, the program successfully increases mustahik income, improves business independence, and generates measurable socio-economic benefits when integrated with consistent mentoring and cross-sector collaboration. This research provides a balanced evaluation of both the achievements and limitations of productive zakat implementation in Medan and offers an empirical foundation for strengthening institutional strategies and public policies that support sustainable poverty alleviation aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the potential bankruptcy of retail sub-sector companies affected by the Israeli boycott listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) for the period 2022–2024 using the Altman Z-Score and Springate models. By applying both prediction models and computing financial ratios from the companies' financial statements, this study employs a qualitative approach to evaluate the likelihood of bankruptcy. According to the findings, the Springate model has an accuracy rate of 50% with a 50% mistake rate, whereas the Altman Z-Score model has a higher accuracy rate of 75% with a 25% error rate. The quantity and kind of financial ratios employed, as well as the threshold values that each model applies, affect the variations in prediction outcomes. According to the results, the Altman Z-Score model is better suited to forecast bankruptcy in retail businesses impacted by the boycott. Businesses can use this analysis's insightful findings to identify financial issues early and take proactive steps to preserve their viability. This research contributes by providing useful insights for investors, companies, and policymakers to anticipate financial distress and make better strategic decisions in the retail sector.
