Abstract

Productive zakat is a strategic instrument for reducing poverty and enhancing community welfare, yet its implementation often encounters managerial and contextual challenges. This study aims to analyze the strategy of Dompet Dhuafa Waspada in Medan’s in empowering mustahik through productive zakat programs, specifically those involving business capital grants, skills training, and continuous mentoring within the Menjahit Harapan Dhuafa programme, Livestock Center, and Rumah Tempe initiatives. Using a qualitative case study approach supported by the SOAR (Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations, Results) framework, data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observations, questionnaires, and documentation. The findings show that Dompet Dhuafa Waspada in Medan possesses strong internal capacities (score 19.6) and clear strategic aspirations (score 19.4), positioning the institution in the SA quadrant, which emphasizes maximizing strengths to achieve long-term goals. The study reveals that the implementation of productive zakat includes structured business assistance, capital distribution, skills development, and marketplace facilitation; however, the program also faces several challenges. These include limited capital scalability, variability in mustahik entrepreneurial readiness, dependence on external market dynamics, and constraints in long-term monitoring. Despite these obstacles, the program successfully increases mustahik income, improves business independence, and generates measurable socio-economic benefits when integrated with consistent mentoring and cross-sector collaboration. This research provides a balanced evaluation of both the achievements and limitations of productive zakat implementation in Medan and offers an empirical foundation for strengthening institutional strategies and public policies that support sustainable poverty alleviation aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the potential bankruptcy of retail sub-sector companies affected by the Israeli boycott listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) for the period 2022–2024 using the Altman Z-Score and Springate models. By applying both prediction models and computing financial ratios from the companies' financial statements, this study employs a qualitative approach to evaluate the likelihood of bankruptcy. According to the findings, the Springate model has an accuracy rate of 50% with a 50% mistake rate, whereas the Altman Z-Score model has a higher accuracy rate of 75% with a 25% error rate. The quantity and kind of financial ratios employed, as well as the threshold values that each model applies, affect the variations in prediction outcomes. According to the results, the Altman Z-Score model is better suited to forecast bankruptcy in retail businesses impacted by the boycott. Businesses can use this analysis's insightful findings to identify financial issues early and take proactive steps to preserve their viability. This research contributes by providing useful insights for investors, companies, and policymakers to anticipate financial distress and make better strategic decisions in the retail sector.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze strategies for developing Muslim fashion businesses through digitalization in Medan City. The research background is based on the rapid growth of digitalization, the rising awareness of modest fashion, and the increasing use of social media and online marketplaces by entrepreneurs. This research employed a qualitative method with a SWOT analysis approach, involving interviews with 10 Muslim fashion business owners. The findings reveal that digitalization significantly contributes to expanding market reach, improving consumer interaction, and facilitating transactions through social media and e-commerce. The main strengths are creative digital content and the adoption of modern payment systems, while weaknesses include limited digital literacy, low promotional budgets, and basic business management practices. Major opportunities come from the rise of online shopping, government support, and the growing demand for halal products. On the other hand, the main threats include intense competition, changing social media algorithms, and the rapid shift of fashion trends. This study concludes that the development of Muslim fashion businesses in Medan holds great potential if entrepreneurs can adapt to digitalization, strengthen branding, and enhance digital literacy through collaboration and training.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of tourism based on local wisdom and its relevance to the principles of Maqashid Shariah from the perspective of Islamic economics. The primary focus of this research includes identifying local wisdom values aligned with the five main objectives of Maqashid Shariah: preservation of religion (hifzh al-din), life (hifzh al-nafs), intellect (hifzh al-‘aql), lineage (hifzh al-nasl), and wealth (hifzh al-mal). Additionally, the research explores how the development of tourism contributes to preserving Islamic values and local culture, as well as identifying the challenges and opportunities involved. The research uses a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach in a tourism area rooted in local culture and traditions. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed thematically. The results indicate that tourism development based on local wisdom not only enhances the economic well-being of the local community but also helps preserve religious, social, and cultural values. Local values such as mutual cooperation, respect for nature, and cultural preservation are shown to align with the objectives of Maqashid Shariah. However, challenges such as limited infrastructure and the risk of cultural commercialization persist. On the other hand, opportunities to develop Shariah-compliant tourism are significant, in line with increasing public awareness of ethical and sustainable tourism. This study recommends the integration of Maqashid Shariah principles into tourism development strategies as a balanced approach that supports both economic benefits and the preservation of Islamic and local cultural values.
