Abstract

The male Betta fish is said to be special because it has a unique body shape and beautiful colours, so it is very popular among people who love ornamental fish. This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of giving goat testicle flour on sex reversal in betta fish. The research design carried out was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). consisting of 4 treatments with 3 repetitions. During the 60-day rearing period, silkworms and artemia were given food. The results of the study showed that the effect on goat testicles had a significant effect on the male sex ratio and survival of betta fish, with a male sex ratio value of 74.92% and survival of 97.77%. Water quality during the research supports the male sex ratio and the survival of betta fish. Keywords: Betta Fish; Goat Testicular Meal; Male Sex Ratio, Sex Reversal; Survival

Abstract

Abstract

The cultivation of dumbo catfish (Clarias gariepinus) has great potential to be a profitable business as long as farmers can overcome obstacles such as odors in ponds and fish. Maintenance ponds that are not paid enough attention to make the aroma of the resulting dumbo catfish slime stronger. In overcoming this problem, we need a material that can reduce the odor in dumbo catfish. One natural ingredient that can improve water quality and reduce odor in catfish is by mixing chitosan in the feed. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of chitosan in removing odors and to determine the best dose of chitosan for eliminating odors in dumbo catfish. This study used an experimental method with a completely randomized design (CRD). The treatments used were (P0 = without chitosan; P1 = 2% chitosan; P2 = 4% chitosan; P3 = 6% chitosan, with 3 repetitions for each treatment). Parameters observed included organoleptic tests including aroma, texture, and taste to determine the effect of chitosan on dumbo catfish meat. The results of the study showed that the addition of chitosan to feed had a significant effect on eliminating odors in the organoleptic (aroma, texture, taste) of African catfish. The best dose of chitosan to remove odor in dumbo catfish (Clarias gariepinus) is at P2 (dose 4%) and P3 (6%).

Abstract

This community service activity aims to train the community, especially youth groups in the village of Paya Bujok Seuleumak in the cultivation of Daphnia sp. for natural betta fish feed by utilizing chicken manure waste as an alternative potential employment. The training activity was carried out for 3 times and was attended by 20 participants. The participants of the activity were creative youths in the village of Paya Bujok Seuleumak, Langsa City, Aceh. The method used in this activity is the direct approach method, practice, and lectures. The results achieved in this activity are the cultivation of natural feed (Daphnia sp.) using chicken manure which can increase economic value. From the results of post-activity monitoring and evaluation, it is known that all participants can apply and re-apply independently and can produce their own Daphnia sp., so as to get optimal results.

Abstract

The problem in the management of blue swimming crab (BSC) fisheries is a decrease in stock that overlaps with an increase in fishing activities. This study aimed to analyze the ratio of spawning potential (SPR), reproductive potential, and reproductive productivity of BSCs taken from the Spermonde Islands. Spawning potential was analyzed using SPR, while reproductive potential analysis used the relative proportion of data between female, berried female and the average fecundity of each class size. The results showed that the BSC in Spermonde were growth overfishing and recruitment overfishing. The SPR of the BSC was estimated to be 7%, below the biological reference point. The highest reproductive potential index of berried females occurred in the group with a carapace width of 111-120 mm which contributed 36.84% of the total egg production. The value of reproductive productivity was 1.35 indicating a productive population. Current legislation allows the capture of BSCs with carapace sizes larger than 100 mm. Based on the data of this study, this size limit has the potential to eliminate 65.92% of the total egg production in the Spermonde Islands. To ensure the sustainability of BSCs in the Spermonde Islands, it is necessary to limit size by capturing BSCs >120 mm to protect the berried female and increase total egg production.

Abstract

Tiger prawns are a marine commodity that has high economic value in Indonesia and abroad. This research aims to determine the right time for administering dolomite lime solution to increase tiger prawn growth. This research used an experimental method with 4 treatments and 3 repetitions. The treatments tested were P1 (giving a dolomite lime solution on day 0 before stocking), P2 (giving a dolomite lime solution on the 15 day after stocking), P3 (giving a dolomite lime solution on the 30th day after stocking), and P4 (giving dolomite lime solution on the 30 day after stocking). administration of dolomite lime solution on the 45 day after stocking). The results of the research showed that administration of dolomite lime solution had an effect on absolute length growth, absolute weight growth and daily growth rate. Meanwhile, survival and feed conversion ratios did not have significant differences, neither did water quality. In general, water quality is not affected by the treatment given. The highest absolute length growth was produced at P3 at 4.1 cm. The highest absolute weight growth was obtained in treatment P3 with a result of 1.28 g, while the lowest absolute weight growth was obtained in treatment P4 at 1.13 g. The highest daily growth rate was produced in treatment P3, namely 6.14%, while the lowest daily growth rate was produced in P2, namely 5.28%.

Abstract

The grey-eel catfish is a highly valued fish species in some parts of Indonesia. The fish is common in brackish water of estuaries, marine and freshwater habitat. They are not are not usually catched in commercial scale because of the limited population in its habitat. Although the status is not evaluated, the fish is predicted facing extinction in several countries. We conducted a study to examine the biological information and reproductive biology of the fish in Kota Langsa to gather information that can be utilize to evaluate reproductive status of the fish in several habitats. Parameters tested in the study includes sex ratio, length-weight relationships, candition factor, size at first maturity fecundity and reproductive potential of the fish. Research results provide information that the fish follows negative allometric model with constant condition factor throughout the study. The catches were relatively young fish which have not reached maturity stage. Fishes in the class sized at 510-550 mm provide the largest contribution to total eggs production. To ensure sustainability of the fish it is advised that the fish must catched at size larger than 550 mm.
