Abstract

Writing essays with a descriptive structure is one of the basic competencies. A descriptive essay is a true depiction of objects or events so that the reader feels what the writer feels in the story. However, the level of students' ability to write descriptive essays is still low given the lack of understanding in writing descriptions so it is difficult to find ideas to translate into written form, and the choice of vocabulary is not quite right in constructing sentences. Therefore, this study aims to determine whether there is an influence of the project-based learning model assisted by mind mapping on students' descriptive essay writing skills. The method of this research is Quasi Experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. Quasi experiment was conducted to determine the effect of a treatment on the subject under study. The research subjects were 50 students of class fourth-grade at Dukuh Menanggal I/424 Public Elementary School, Surabaya. Data analysis techniques using normality test, homogeneity test, and hypothesis testing. The results showed that there was an influence of the Mind Mapping-assisted Project Based Learning learning model on literacy skills in writing essay descriptions of grade IV students. In addition, with the help of Mind Mapping, can students learn motivation in writing descriptive essays because it helps focus students' minds in composing sentences into paragraphs.

Abstract

The ability to think critically in the 21st century is very important for developing children's thinking ideas. This ability is very likely to be empowered intentionally through the educational process. In this century it is very influential in human life, especially in the field of technology and knowledge. However, students' critical thinking skills are still low, with one of the factors being the learning model which is still considered monotonous. Therefore this study aims to determine the effect of the project based learning model on critical thinking skills seen from cognitive style. The type of research used is quantitative research with research methods using tests and observations, the subjects of this research are 5th grade elementary school students. With the method of data analysis using the normality test, homogeneity and ANOVA hypothesis testing. The data was analyzed quantitatively. The results of this study indicate that there is an influence of the project based learning learning model on students' Critical Thinking abilities in science subjects at SDN Gaungan 02. The project based learning model emphasizes that student activities are in the form of collecting information and using it to produce something useful for the lives of students themselves or for other people, but still related to basic competencies in the curriculum.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to determine the role of scouting extracurricular activities in implementing an attitude of independence in students. This study uses a qualitative research method. The methods used are implementing various activities such as pioneering, breaking scout codes, camping, competitions, and so on, and there are factors from the role of teachers/scout leaders, peers, and parents. The implementation of the character of independence through scouting extracurricular activities in Elementary Schools has been carried out well. This is evidenced by the behavior of students who have implemented the values of independence such as being able to carry out tasks as well as possible, being able to carry out tasks independently, having a self-confident attitude and also being able to concentrate in the learning process. Abstract

21st century learning emphasizes four key skills, including collaboration. Students' limited ability to collaborate in learning, particularly in Indonesian language subjects, is influenced by the use of conventional teaching methods. The aim of this research is to investigate the influence of the Think Talk Write (TTW) learning approach on enhancing the cooperative abilities of elementary school pupils in Indonesia. This study is a quantitative research with the Quasi-Experimental method and uses Post-Test Only Control Group Design as a design. This research was carried out at SDN Keboananom Gedangan. The study involved two classes: Class III A (experimental) and Class III B (control). The process of gathering data was conducted using questionnaires. The collected data was analyzed with the SPSS software program version 21. Referring to the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that the Think Talk Write (TTW) learning strategy has a significant impact on the collaborative ability of Elementary School students in Indonesian subjects. The existence of this research intends to offer accurate knowledge, insights, and information to readers in the future.

Abstract

This study intends to determine teachers' perceptions of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)-based education to improve students' social awareness through social studies learning in elementary schools. The method employed was a qualitative approach with a case study design. The data were gathered through in-depth interviews and non-participant observations of five elementary school teachers with more than five years of teaching experience. The findings uncovered that teachers' understanding of the SDGs varied, with some teachers taking more initiative in integrating SDG values into their learning. In contrast, others encountered difficulties due to limited training and resources. The strategies implemented encompassed classroom discussions and community-based projects as well as the utilization of technology, such as documentary videos and news articles. Nonetheless, the primary challenges were limited time and access to in-depth teaching materials. The impact of SDGs-based education on students was observed in their increased understanding of global issues, such as climate change and social inequality. Students also exhibited greater interest in social and environmental activities. However, the impact differed depending on the intensity of SDGs implementation in learning. In conclusion, although the implementation of SDGs in elementary schools can increase students' social awareness, further support from the government and schools is required, including teacher training and the provision of adequate resources to strengthen the integration of SDGs in the curriculum.

Abstract

Abstract: Abstract This study aims to analyze the effects of using interactive media and visual media as well as learning motivation on elementary students' mathematics learning outcomes. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement. The population consisted of all fourth-grade students at SD Negeri Inpres Malompo, totaling 60 students, using cluster sampling techniques. The research instruments included a learning motivation questionnaire and a mathematics achievement test. Data analysis was conducted using two-way ANOVA after fulfilling normality and homogeneity assumptions. The results showed a significant difference in learning outcomes between students using interactive media and those using visual media, with interactive media demonstrating superior effectiveness. Furthermore, there was a significant difference in learning outcomes between students with high and low learning motivation. The analysis also revealed a significant interaction effect between the type of media and learning motivation, indicating that interactive media was most effective for students with high motivation. These findings highlight the importance of selecting appropriate instructional media and enhancing student motivation to improve mathematics learning outcomes. It is recommended that teachers optimally utilize interactive media and consider students' motivation to create more effective and engaging learning environments.  Keyword: interactive media, visual media, learning motivation, learning outcomes, mathematics.  Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh penggunaan media interaktif dan media gambar serta motivasi belajar terhadap hasil belajar matematika siswa sekolah dasar. Abstract

The problem addressed in this study is the persistence of teacher-centered learning and the limited innovation in developing digital teaching materials, which has resulted in students’ low comprehension of mathematical concepts. This study aimed to develop digital teaching materials in the form of Heyzine Flipbooks using the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on the topic of matrices to improve students’ conceptual understanding, while also meeting the criteria of feasibility and practicality. The research employed the ADDIE development model. Expert validators consisted of media experts, material experts, and design experts, while user trials involved mathematics teachers and Grade XI students at SMAN 8 Surabaya. Data were collected through expert validation sheets, as well as teacher and student response questionnaires. The results showed that media experts gave an average validation score of 3.98, material experts 3.98, and design experts 3.50, all categorized as very feasible. In addition, practicality scores were 3.96 from teacher responses and 3.86 from student responses, both categorized as very practical. These findings indicate that the developed teaching materials are feasible and practical to enhance students’ conceptual understanding of mathematics.
