Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the use of modified pencak silat training equipment on student interest and participation in Physical Education learning at SMA Negeri 16 Makassar. The study used a Pretest–Posttest Control Group experimental design with a sample of 40 students, consisting of 20 students in the experimental group and 20 students in the control group. The experimental group received treatment in the form of pencak silat learning with modified equipment, while the control group used conventional learning methods. The instruments used included a learning interest questionnaire, participation observation sheets, and documentation of activities during learning. The results showed that the experimental group experienced a significant increase in learning interest by 28.6% and student participation by 35.4%, while the increase in the control group was much lower. Statistical tests showed significant differences between the two groups in the interest and participation variables (p < 0.05). These findings prove that the use of modified equipment can create more interesting, safe, and effective pencak silat learning in increasing student motivation and involvement. This study provides an important contribution to innovation in local culture-based Physical Education learning.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of the Jigsaw cooperative learning model on motor skills and basic Sepak Takraw techniques in students at SMPN 13 Makassar. The study used a one-group pretest-posttest design with a sample of 40 students. The instruments used included motor skills tests (agility, coordination, reaction speed, balance) and basic Sepak Takraw techniques tests (serving, control, passing, footwork, and ball contact accuracy). The results showed a significant improvement after implementing the Jigsaw model. For motor skills, the average score increased from 63.20 (pretest) to 78.55 (posttest), representing a 15.35-point increase. A paired sample t-test showed a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant difference before and after the treatment. The effect size, calculated using Cohen's d, was 1.89, categorized as a very large effect. In the basic Sepak Takraw technique test, the average score increased from 61.64 (pretest) to 78.80 (posttest), representing a 17.16-point increase. All technical components improved, particularly footwork, which increased by 18.5 points. The statistical test results showed a p-value of 0.000, with an effect size of 2.12, which is also considered very large. Overall, the Jigsaw cooperative learning model has proven effective in improving the motor skills and basic Sepak Takraw technical skills of junior high school students. These findings recommend Jigsaw as an alternative learning model capable of improving the quality of Physical Education (PJOK) learning, particularly in Sepak Takraw.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an innovative Physical Education (PE) learning model based on modifications to basic badminton techniques to increase active student participation at SMK Negeri 7 Makassar. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method, encompassing needs analysis, model design, expert validation, limited trials, and effectiveness evaluation. The study sample consisted of 20 tenth-grade students selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through active participant observation, badminton skills tests (pretest–posttest), and student response questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and thematic qualitative analysis. The results showed that the learning model based on modifications to basic badminton techniques was effective in increasing student active participation across four key indicators: physical, emotional, cognitive, and social engagement. The 51.9% increase in active participation indicates that this model is able to create a more engaging and inclusive learning environment. Furthermore, there was a 60.3% increase in mastery of basic badminton techniques, indicating that modifications to the equipment, court, and rules of the game helped students understand skills in a gradual and contextual manner. Student responses to the model were also very positive, with an average score of 4.60, indicating that students felt comfortable, motivated, and actively engaged during the learning process. Overall, this learning model is feasible for implementation in physical education (PJOK) learning and has the potential to be developed in other school contexts. Further research is recommended using a larger sample size and a comparative experimental design.

Abstract

Improving basic backstroke swimming techniques and swimming safety aspects is a crucial requirement for new Penjaskesrek students as future educators and sports practitioners. Initial observations indicate that most students still experience difficulties in coordinating basic backstroke techniques and lack understanding of water safety procedures. This condition has the potential to reduce the quality of swimming learning at the college and school levels. Based on these problems, this community service activity aims to improve mastery of basic backstroke swimming techniques and understanding of swimming safety through a structured training approach. The community service activity was carried out at the FIKK UNM Swimming Pool and involved 35 new PJKR students. The methods used included initial observation, providing theoretical material, technique demonstrations, gradual exercises, water safety simulations, and evaluations in the form of pre-tests and post-tests. Raw data were collected to measure aspects of swimming skills before and after training. From 20 structured data samples, the pre-test score obtained an average of 59.55 and a post-test score of 75.65. Data analysis was carried out using a paired sample t-test statistical test via SPSS to determine the significance of skill improvements. The descriptive test results showed an increase in backstroke technique scores from a minimum of 55 to 83 in the post-test. The correlation test produced a relationship value of 0.82, indicating consistent improvement in learning outcomes for each participant. The paired sample t-test results obtained a value of t = -17.35 with a significance of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating that the training had a significant effect on improving swimming ability. Overall, the training activities implemented were proven effective in improving basic backstroke technique skills and understanding of swimming safety. It can be concluded that structured training that combines theory, demonstration, direct practice, and evaluation can provide significant improvements in the swimming abilities of new students. This activity is important to continue and develop to become part of a sustainable swimming development program on campus
