Abstract

Program pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan kemampuan membaca mahasiswa Business English Communication di Universitas Negeri Makassar melalui penggunaan Microsoft Reading Progress. Dengan mengatasi tantangan seperti keterbatasan kosakata bisnis, struktur kalimat kompleks, dan kurangnya alat evaluasi interaktif, program ini menggunakan Microsoft Reading Progress untuk meningkatkan kecepatan membaca, pemahaman teks, dan penguasaan terminologi bisnis mahasiswa. Program ini menekankan potensi integrasi alat digital dalam kurikulum Business English, menawarkan pengalaman belajar yang interaktif dan mandiri. Meski terdapat tantangan akses teknologi, keberhasilan program ini menunjukkan efektivitas teknologi pendidikan dalam mendukung literasi bahasa Inggris yang relevan dengan dunia bisnis.

Abstract

Kegiatan Festival Literasi dan Numerasi yang diadakan di UPT SPF SD Inpres Mangasa I pada peringatan Hari Pendidikan Nasional (Hardiknas) 2024 melibatkan permainan Ular Tangga Literasi dan Numerasi sebagai salah satu kegiatan unggulan. Metode pelaksanaan dimulai dengan persiapan media permainan, koordinasi dengan guru, dan sosialisasi kepada siswa. Peserta dibagi dalam tim untuk bermain dan menjawab soal literasi serta numerasi, sambil berdiskusi dalam tim. Permainan ini dilaksanakan dalam beberapa sesi untuk siswa kelas tinggi, sementara kelas rendah terlibat dalam pembelajaran outdoor dengan soal yang disesuaikan. Evaluasi dilakukan melalui diskusi, apresiasi, dan pelatihan guru untuk memodifikasi soal agar permainan ini dapat diterapkan secara berkelanjutan dalam berbagai mata pelajaran. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa permainan ini berhasil menarik minat siswa dengan antusiasme tinggi, meningkatkan kemampuan literasi dan numerasi siswa, serta memperkuat karakter Profil Pelajar Pancasila, khususnya gotong royong dan bernalar kritis. Selain itu, media permainan ini memiliki fleksibilitas untuk digunakan dalam berbagai mata pelajaran dan dapat diadaptasi oleh guru untuk pembelajaran jangka panjang. Secara keseluruhan, permainan Ular Tangga Literasi dan Numerasi terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan akademik dan karakter siswa, serta memberikan inspirasi bagi pengembangan metode pembelajaran yang menyenangkan dan bermakna.

Abstract

The Training for Enhancing Digital Skills of English Teachers through Microsoft 365 for Education in Takalar Regency aims to improve teachers’ digital skills in utilizing technology for learning. The training materials include the use of various Microsoft 365 applications, such as Teams, Forms, OneDrive, Sway, and Stream, as well as Office Online applications like Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Participants were allowed to learn and use these applications. In addition to improving instructors' digital proficiency, this training helped make learning more dynamic and interesting for pupils. In general, this program is anticipated to enhance Takalar Regency's educational standards, especially concerning technology-based learning.

Abstract

This research aims to the form of radical feminism and how it is resisted in the novel "Woman at Point Zero". To obtain the data for this analysis, the researchers used a descriptive qualitative method. The researchers reads the novel entitled "Woman At Point Zero" 4 times. This novel tells about a life journey of a girl named Firdaus who is a woman from Egypt who has lived in a village since childhood but she was employed as a commercial sex worker after adulthood. There are 7 types of feminism but the most prominent type in this novel is radical feminism with libetarian radical feminism and cultural radical feminism having 10 extracts, self actualization 3 extracts, dare to act 7 extracts, and the power of speak up 3 extracts. The resistance to the freedom of feminism is that Firdaus speaks up, apart from the resistance of speaking up, Firdaus also dares to act and self-actualize.

Abstract

Abstrak. Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi hubungan antara strategi belajar dan kemampuan berbicara pada kelas Speaking for Informal Interaction  pada mahasiswa Sastra Inggris Universitas Negeri Makassar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi jenis strategi belajar yang digunakan siswa, mengevaluasi dampak strategi tersebut terhadap Kemampuan Berbicara informal mereka, dan menguji tantangan yang dihadapi dalam penerapannya. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan metode campuran, data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL), observasi kelas, wawancara semi-terstruktur, dan penilaian Kemampuan Berbicara. Temuan mengungkapkan bahwa strategi sosial dan kognitif, seperti kolaborasi teman sebaya dan pengulangan, adalah strategi yang paling sering digunakan dan memiliki dampak positif yang signifikan terhadap kelancaran dan kompetensi komunikatif siswa. Siswa yang menggunakan strategi sosial menunjukkan kinerja yang lebih tinggi dalam percakapan spontan, sementara mereka yang menggunakan strategi kognitif menunjukkan akurasi dan kontrol yang lebih baik terhadap struktur linguistik. Namun, strategi afektif yang berkaitan dengan pengelolaan kecemasan kurang dimanfaatkan, dengan banyak siswa melaporkan kegugupan dalam situasi berbicara informal. Studi ini menunjukkan bahwa lebih menekankan pada pengajaran strategi afektif dan metakognitif dapat membantu siswa mengelola kecemasan dan meningkatkan pengaturan diri mereka. Temuan ini berkontribusi pada pemahaman penggunaan strategi dalam pembelajaran bahasa dan menawarkan rekomendasi praktis untuk meningkatkan Kemampuan Berbicara informal melalui pelatihan strategi yang ditargetkan.Kata Kunci: Strategi Belajar, Interaksi Informal, Kemampuan Berbicara

This study discusses about fashion of dialect within the film script entitled Fast and Furious 9. Abstract

In this study, we analysed the social class conflict from the character statement and situation in the film. We analysed 2 problems; they are: (1) What type of class does each character include in the film according to social class conflict theory? (2) What causes the occurrence of conflict between social classes in the film according to social class conflict theory? The 2019 film Parasite was directed by Bong Joon-ho, who also co-wrote and co-produced it alongside Han Jin-won. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method combined with a sociological approach. Based on the findings, there are 3 types of social class, the lower class, the middle class, and the upper class. There are 4 characters for the lower class, 1 character for the middle class, and 2 characters for the upper class. The dynamics of each class are constantly overlapping and lead to issues such as the emergence of various conflicts. Each of the conflicts arises from the class differences among the characters in the film. The emergencies of the conflicts are varied, ranging from: conflict involving social positions, conflict of interest, and conflict of role.

Abstract

This thesis analyses the conversational strategies in mixed-gender conversation in the Enola Holmes movie. This movie is chosen because it offers a representation of complex conversations between characters of different genders. This research uses a qualitative approach with discourse analysis method to identify and analyze the conversational strategies used by the characters in various contexts in the film. Data were collected through transcription of the film's dialogues and analysis using a conversational theory framework. The results of the analysis show that in conversations between mixed genders, the characters in Enola Holmes use a variety of conversational strategies to achieve their communicative goals, including hedging strategies, tag questions, empty adjectives, and super polite forms as per Robin Lakoff's 1975 theory. The results of this research analysis show that women tend to use the tag questions communication strategy which was found 8 times, then hedging and empty adjectives which were both found 7 times and finally super polite form which was found 6 times. The findings provide insights into how interactions between mixed genders are represented in films and the contribution of films in shaping our understanding of gender conversations

Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the types and the functions of Speech Act by Susi Pudjiastuti in forming personal branding in public. This study uses a descriptive method based on the Searle’s theory on Illocutionary speech act. The data is taken from Pudjiastuti Speeches on Understanding Indonesia’s Marine Police: Economic and Security Challenges (2015) and World should unite agains illegal fishing (2018). The result of this research indicate that all the types ofillocutionary act. They are Representatives, Directives, Commissives, Expressives, and Declarations. The functions of speech act used by Susi Pudjiastuti are Representatives functions such as statements of fact, assertions, conclusions, and descriptions. Directive acts, namely commands, orders, requests, ask, and suggestions. Commissive function to do something to some future with uses action, they are promising, threatening, offering, refusing, and pledging. Expressive function such as thanking, congratulating, pardoning, blambing, praising, and condoling and the last is Declaratives functions such as resigning, dismissing, christening, naming, appointing, excommunicating, sentencing. By explaining the speech acts used Pudjiastuti in forming personal branding, it can be concluded that speech actsare very important in forming personal branding, both formally and informally.

Abstract

This study's purpose is to examine the kinds of figurative language and the meaning contained in the figurative language contained in the lyrics of the songs "Make It Right" and "Permission to Dance", with reference to Griffiths (2006) on semantics for meaning and Knickerbocker and Renninger's (1963) theoretical framework for figurative language. The researcher used a descriptive qualitative method in conducting this research. The researcher found five types of figurative language and their meanings contained in the lyrics of the songs "Make It Right" and "Permission To Dance," namely: metaphor, simile, personification, hyperbole, and alliteration. The two types of figurative language most commonly used by researchers are metaphor and simile. Based on the data obtained, 4 metaphors, 4 similes, 3 personifications, 2 hyperboles, and 1 alliteration were found. The most dominant figurative languages are metaphor and simile. The meanings of these two songs are very different; it can also be seen that these two songs have a different atmosphere even though the type of music is almost the same, namely R&B remixes. In the song "Make It Right," they (BTS) are telling the beginning of their career journey, which previously was that of ordinary singers that not many people knew about. While the song Permission to Dance encourages fans to remain optimistic in the midst of a worldwide pandemic.
