Abstract

Nomophobia (no mobile-phone phobia), defined as excessive anxiety when individuals are unable to access their smartphones, has become a serious challenge among adolescents, particularly junior high school students growing up in the digital era. Uncontrolled smartphone use may disrupt learning concentration, social relationships, and students’ mental health. Therefore, effective counseling interventions that are relevant to adolescents’ developmental characteristics are needed. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of reality counseling using the WDEP (Wants, Doing, Evaluation, Planning) technique in reducing nomophobia among ninth-grade students at SMP Adh Dhuha Jember. A quantitative approach was employed using a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test–post-test control group model. Participants were selected through purposive sampling, consisting of students identified as having high levels of nomophobia based on pre-test results. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was conducted using an independent sample t-test to examine differences in nomophobia levels between the experimental and control groups. The results showed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the two groups. The mean score of the experimental group decreased substantially from 88 in the pre-test to 45.38 in the post-test after receiving the reality counseling intervention, whereas the reduction in the control group was less pronounced. These findings demonstrate that reality counseling with the WDEP technique is effective in reducing nomophobia among junior high school students. This study provides important practical implications for school guidance and counseling services in designing interventions that are responsive to adolescents’ digital behavior problems in the technology-driven era.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the integration of philosophical values in Tor-Tor dance as an effort to increase the social awareness of vocational high school (SMK) students using the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) development model. Tor-Tor dance, which is part of Batak culture, contains philosophical values that can be applied in the context of character education and students' social life. The research process began with an analysis of the needs and objectives of program development, followed by the design and development of materials, and implementation in extracurricular activities. Data was collected through observation, interviews with teachers and students, and evaluation of the program that had been implemented. The results of the study showed that the integration of philosophical values in Tor-Tor dance can increase students' social awareness, especially in terms of togetherness, respect, and cooperation. This program also contributes to the formation of students' character who are more concerned about their social environment.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of role-modeling-based group guidance in shaping the careers of Guidance and counseling students through socio-cultural narratives and social presence, within the framework of Career Construction Theory (Savickas). A quantitative approach using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was applied to data from 500 students across several universities. The measurement model demonstrated strong reliability and validity (factor loadings > 0.70; AVE > 0.50; CR > 0.70). Structurally, role modeling significantly influenced socio-cultural narratives (β = 0.68, p < 0.001) and social presence (β = 0.59, p < 0.001). Furthermore, socio-cultural narratives (β = 0.42, p < 0.01) and social presence (β = 0.37, p < 0.01) positively predicted career construction, which, in turn, substantially affected the overall effectiveness of group guidance (β = 0.74, p < 0.001). The model explained 63% of the variance in career construction and 55% of the variance in group guidance effectiveness. These findings confirm the importance of socio-cultural and interactional dimensions in enhancing students’ career adaptability and offer practical implications for counselors to design culturally responsive, socially engaging guidance programs that foster career development. Abstract

Development of Interaction Value in Boranan Dance as a Method to Reduce Academic Procrastination of Mahasantri. This study aims to develop and test the effectiveness of an educational counseling module based on Boranan dance values in reducing academic procrastination behavior among PPA Ibnu Katsir Jember students. The background of this study is based on the high number of academic procrastination which has an impact on decreasing achievement and learning motivation. This study uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) development model to produce a valid, applicable, and contextual module product. Validation was carried out by guidance and counseling material experts, while the module trial was carried out through three group counseling sessions with 31 students. The validation results showed that the module scored 80%, was valid and feasible to use with minor revisions. The implementation of the module showed a decrease in procrastination behavior from 83% to 57%, proving the effectiveness of the local culture-based approach. The implications of this study indicate that educational counseling that integrates local wisdom values, such as persistence in the Boranan dance, is not only effective psychopedagogically, but is also able to strengthen the cultural identity of students within the framework of character education. It is recommended that this module be adapted and applied more widely in various Islamic boarding school-based educational institutions or other cultural localities as an alternative contextual and transformative intervention. Keywords: Interaction Value, Academic Procrastination; Boranan Dance

Abstract

The Effectiveness of Modeling Techniques Using Symbolic Models to Improve Career Planning for Female Students at the Al-Ikhlas Orphan and Underprivileged Islamic Boarding School in Singosari. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of group guidance services using the symbolic modeling technique to improve the career planning of female students at the Al-Ikhlas Yatim Dhu'afa Islamic Boarding School in Singosari. The study addresses issues faced by students who experience confusion in determining their career plans after leaving the boarding school. This research employs a pre-experimental method using a Quasi-Experimental Design with the Equivalent Time Series Design method, involving a sample of 11 students. Data collection methods include observation, interviews, and questionnaires. Before being distributed, the questionnaires were tested for validity and reliability. The data analysis technique used is the Wilcoxon Match Pairs Test. The results of this study show that the symbolic modeling technique can be a practical and effective solution to help Islamic boarding school students improve their career planning skills. This is evidenced by a significant increase in students' scores at each post-test stage compared to the pre-test results. The average student score increased from 41.73 (low category) in the pre-test to 113.27 (high category) in the fourth post-test. This average increase of 171% demonstrates the success of the intervention in building career planning skills, particularly for students initially in the low category. This approach can be applied more broadly to other aspects of personal development, such as emotional management, interpersonal communication, and decision-making.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of group guidance using a problem-solving technique in improving students’ self-confidence at Salafiyah Miftahul Huda Junior High School. The research applied a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants were six eighth-grade students identified as having low self-confidence, selected purposively based on the results of a self-confidence scale. The instrument was a questionnaire consisting of 60 statements developed from Lauster’s indicators, which include self-belief, social interaction, and self-concept. The results revealed a significant increase in students’ self-confidence, with the mean score rising from 131.33 in the pretest to 272.00 in the posttest IV, with a significance value of p = 0.000 (<0.05). This improvement of approximately 107% was consistently reflected in all indicators. These findings confirm that group guidance with a problem-solving technique is effective in enhancing students’ self-confidence. Furthermore, the results provide practical implications for developing counseling services that are more targeted and responsive to students’ needs, both in academic and psychosocial contexts
