Abstract

Adolescent nutrition problems are still a concern due to the imbalance between nutrient intake and needs during a period of rapid growth. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the percentage of conformity of macronutrient intake with nutritional status in high school adolescents in Surakarta based on energy distribution. This study is an observational study with a cross-sectional design  involving 221 respondents selected through  a proportional random sampling technique. Macronutrient intake data was collected using  3x24-hour food recall and analyzed with NutriSurvey 2007, while nutritional status was determined based on BMI by age (BMI/U) using WHO AnthroPlus. Data analysis was carried out using the Chi-Square test  with a significance level of p<0.05. The results showed that most of the respondents had normal nutritional status (72.9%). The percentage of appropriate protein intake was significantly associated with nutritional status (p=0.037), while the percentage of appropriate fat (p=0.111) and carbohydrate (p=0.911) intakes did not show a significant relationship. This demonstrates the importance of appropriate amino acid intake for somatic growth and indicates that adolescents have metabolic flexibility in regulating energy sources. Future researchers are advised to expand the scope of variables to include physical activity, snacking behavior, and social factors.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an acute febrile illness caused by infection with the Dengue Virus (DENV) and transmitted by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. This disease is one of the most prevalent tropical diseases affecting humans. In Kadokan Village, DHF ranks as the leading public health concern due to the high number of cases, particularly in Tegalmangu Hamlet. This condition is closely associated with the community’s low awareness of the importance of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) in preventing the spread of DHF. This study aims to enhance community knowledge and awareness regarding the prevention and management of DHF through Mosquito Breeding Site Eradication (PSN) and the implementation of PHBS. The methods employed include observation, health education sessions, and the administration of pre-test and post-test questionnaires to assess the level of knowledge. The observational findings indicate behavioral changes related to environmental cleanliness, while the pre-and post-test results show a significance value of 0.012 (p<0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference in community knowledge before and after the educational intervention on DHF and PHBS.

Abstract

According to data from the community health center, two of the top three diseases in Prambanan District are non-communicable diseases (NCDs): hypertension (32.63%), the common cold (25.61%), and diabetes mellitus (DM) (19.03%). Based on the principles of community-based health efforts, the community must be able to perform anthropometric measurements to enable early detection of NCD risk. This community service activity aimed to provide anthropometric measurement training to integrated health sevices for NCD (Posbindu PTM) cadres in Daleman Hamlet, Sumberharjo, Prambanan, Sleman. The training, attended by 13 cadres, covered the theory and practice of anthropometric measurements related to NCDs, including weight, height, mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC), waist circumference, and hip circumference. Improvements in knowledge and skills were observed after the training, as evidenced by the correct use of measurement procedures. The training is expected to increase the cadres' confidence in providing anthropometric measurements to the community.

Abstract

Adolescence is a critical period of growth and development characterized by rapid physical changes and alterations in body composition, increasing the need for adequate nutritional intake, including fat. Excessive or insufficient fat intake can affect body composition and abdominal fat distribution. This study aimed to analyze the association between fat intake and nutritional status based on Body Mass Index-for-Age (IMT/U) as well as abdominal fat distribution based on A Body Shape Index (ABSI) among high school adolescents in Surakarta. This observational analytic study employed a cross-sectional design and was conducted in February 2025 at four public senior high schools in Surakarta. A total of 200 respondents aged 15–18 years were selected using multistage random sampling. Data collection included anthropometric measurements consisting of body weight, height, and waist circumference, as well as dietary assessment using three non-consecutive 24-hour food recalls comprising two weekdays and one weekend day. Nutrient intake data were analyzed using NutriSurvey software. Nutritional status was assessed using WHO IMT/U z-score standards, while abdominal fat distribution was assessed using ABSI. Data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment correlation test for IMT/U and Spearman Rank correlation test for ABSI. The results showed no significant association between fat intake and IMT/U (p=0.868, r=0.012) or ABSI (p=0.988, r=0.001). In conclusion, fat intake alone was not significantly associated with IMT/U or abdominal fat distribution among adolescents. These findings indicate that nutritional status and abdominal fat distribution in adolescents are multifactorial conditions that cannot be explained solely by fat intake.

Abstract

Adolescence is a critical stage of development, where nutrition and health influence the quality of individuals in adulthood.. Adolescent nutritional status is influenced by various factors such as body image and fast food consumption. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between body image and the frequency of fast food consumption with nutritional status. This research employed a cross-sectional design involving 61 respondents selected through proportional random sampling. Body image was measured using the MBSRQ-AS questionnaire consisting of 33 items covering four aspects: appearance evaluation, body part satisfaction, fat anxiety, and body categorization. The frequency of fast food consumption was assessed using a FFQ, and nutritional status data were obtained through weight and height measurements using the BMI-for-age index. Data analysis was conducted using the Spearman Rank test to examine the relationship between body image and the frequency of fast food consumption with nutritional status. The results showed that the majority of female adolescents had a positive body image (55.7%) and rarely consumed fast food (60.7%), with most having a good nutritional status (78.7%). The Spearman Rank test indicated a significant relationship between body image and nutritional status (p < 0.001), while there was no significant relationship between the frequency of fast food consumption and nutritional status (p = 0.301). The conclusion of this study is that body image affects the nutritional status of female adolescents, whereas fast food consumption does not necessarily have a significant influence on nutritional status.

Abstract

Menstruation is a natural process of endometrial shedding when fertilization does not occur, but many women experience it accompanied by menstrual pain, also known as dysmenorrhea. Dysmenorrhea is menstrual pain during menstruation. Anemia and nutritional status are among the risk factors for dysmenorrhea. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between anemia and nutritional status with the incidence of dysmenorrhea in female students at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. The research method used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all female students from the 2023 cohort. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling with a sample size of 88 female students. Anemia data were obtained from measuring hemoglobin levels using the cyanmethemoglobin method, nutritional status from calculating Body Mass Index (BMI), and dysmenorrhea was measured using the WaLIDD questionnaire. The results showed that the respondents were mostly 20 years old (42%), had menarche at the age of ≥ 12 years (68%), had no family history of dysmenorrhea (61%), and had a menstrual duration of 4-7 days (80%). Most respondents experienced anemia (51%) and had a normal nutritional status (43%). The statistical test results showed no significant relationship between anemia (p = 0.258) and nutritional status (p = 0.315) with the incidence of dysmenorrhea in female students at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. The suggestion for female students is to maintain a balanced and nutritious diet to reduce menstrual pain or dysmenorrhea.

Abstract

Stress management or coping strategies of stress are individual efforts to manage the emotional pressure they experience. One form of coping strategy that is often practiced is emotional eating, the behavior of overeating arising from emotional factors. This behavior can affect nutritional status. Therefore, this study aims to determine the relationship between stress levels and emotional eating with nutritional status in high school adolescents. This type of research is observational analytic with a quantitative approach and the research design used a cross-sectional study design. This study was conducted in two locations, namely SMA Muhammadiyah PK Kottabarat Surakarta and MAN 1 Surakarta, with a total of 154 respondents selected using a proportional random sampling technique. The instruments used included the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale for Youth (DASS-Y 21) and the Adult Eating Behavior Questionnaire (AEBQ) as well as anthropometric measurements. Data analysis was carried out univariately and bivariately using the Spearman Rank correlation test. The research findings show no significant relationship between stress levels and nutritional status (p-value = 0.629), and between emotional eating and nutritional status (p-value = 0.051). Therefore, it can be concluded that there is no statistically significant relationship between stress events and emotional eating behavior and nutritional status in high school adolescents. This is because stress factors and emotionally triggered eating behavior do not directly affect adolescents' nutritional status in this context. These findings demonstrate the importance of monitoring students' stress levels, which can influence emotional eating, which in turn can affect nutritional status.

Abstract

Stunting is one of the health problems that has become a priority to address in Indonesia. Solodiran Village is one of the stunting-focus (locus) villages in Klaten Regency. Stunting prevention interventions need to be carried out as early as possible, even before the baby is born, starting from when women are still in their teenage years. Programs to support the reduction of stunting cases can be carried out by providing education to at-risk groups, such as women of childbearing age, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and mothers of toddlers. The Dapur Sehat Atasi Stunting (DASHAT) program, launched by the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN), is a program aimed at being a center for nutrition and services for children with stunting. This program includes a healthy menu that uses local products, which also helps empower and improve the welfare of the surrounding community. Solodiran Village has various local food sources such as various vegetables, chicken, and catfish, which can be utilized as healthy food sources to prevent stunting. The program offered for stunting prevention in Solodiran Village, by adopting the DASHAT program, which includes activities such as education using PowerPoint media about how to create DASHAT menus, followed by demonstrations on processing and serving DASHAT menus. This activity was carried out successfully with 20 participants. The results of the activity showed an increase in the participants' knowledge after attending the education, as indicated by an average post-test score of 8.7 (categorized good knowledge). Participants' understanding of processing balanced nutrition menus based on local food also improved after the demonstration on how to process and serve DASHAT menus. Through this program, it is hoped that the knowledge and skills of the target group in preparing healthy, balanced meals will improve, which could help reduce stunting cases, especially in Klaten Regency.
