Abstract

This study aims to improve the skill of sewing culottes for eleventh-grade students with hearing impairments through the explicit instruction learning model. This research employs classroom action research (CAR) with a qualitative approach, conducted collaboratively between the researcher and the classroom teacher. The subject of the study was one eleventh-grade student with hearing impairment in class XI-B at SLB Muhammadiyah Pauh IX Padang. Data were collected using test instruments to assess the student's culotte sewing skills and non-test instruments, including observations, documentation, and interviews, to evaluate the student's responses to the learning process. The research was carried out in two cycles, each consisting of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics for quantitative data presented as sewing skill percentages, and Miles and Huberman's qualitative analysis consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the student’s initial average skill was 50.69%. After Cycle I, the average increased to 63.75%, and after Cycle II, it reached 82.08%. These findings indicate that the explicit instruction model, applied in a structured and step-by-step manner, effectively enhances the sewing skills of students with hearing impairments.

Abstract

Pre-service special education teachers are expected to master a broad range of professional competencies including the ability to deliver subject-specific instruction, among them mathematics, to children with special needs (CSN). Yet how accurately these teachers in training appraise their own readiness for mathematics instruction remains poorly understood. This study examined discrepancies between self-assessment and peer-assessment in evaluating mathematics teaching skills among 61 final-year students enrolled in the Bachelor of Special Education program (S1 Pendidikan Luar Biasa) at Padang State University, Indonesia. Using a comparative within-subjects design, participants completed self-assessment instruments (18 items) after conducting a 45-minute mathematics lesson for small groups of CSN, while peers independently evaluated the same lessons using an observational rubric (14 items). A paired-samples t-test revealed statistically significant discrepancies (t = 2.907, p = 0.005; Cohen's d = 0.56): self-assessment scores (M = 4.41, SD = 0.61) exceeded peer-assessment scores (M = 4.13, SD = 0.37) by a practically meaningful margin. Notably, 70.5% of participants overestimated their own performance. The weak, non-significant correlation between modes (r = −.14, p = .277) indicates that self- and peer-assessment capture complementary rather than overlapping dimensions of teaching competence. These findings call for deliberate restructuring of assessment practices in special education teacher preparation specifically, integrating multiple evaluative perspectives, building assessment literacy, and treating discrepancies as a productive site for professional learning.[

The analysis method used is descriptive qualitative and quantitative. The results showed that the performance of agricultural extension is in North Aceh District was very good with an average index value of 81.32%. There are two significant relationships between the characteristics of extension, namely the age and working period of the extension with the performance of extension workers at the stage of agricultural extension preparation with a significant value below 0.05 which is 0.039. The correlation coefficient is negative (-) which means that there is an indirect relationship between the age and working life of the extension and the performance of the extension. Keywords: Performance, Agricultural Extension, farmers
