Abstract

This research aims to determine the implementation of culture-based character education in State Vocational Schools. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods with data collection techniques, such as interview methods, field observations, and documentation studies. The research results show that SMK Negeri 1, and SMK Negeri 2 Muara Enim have a good strategy for realizing culture-based character education for their students through routine activities. These routine activities include implementing a culture of greetings, smiles, politeness, manners, and friendship between school members, character education values are also provided during extracurricular activities as well as applying character values through habituation which is carried out every day at school. The obstacles are that teachers still have difficulty adjusting the character values that will be given to students, parental cooperation that does not support the implementation of character education, and students are quite varied so it is quite difficult for teachers to understand students’ characters. Solutions implemented include conducting outreach between the school and parents of students, teachers making efforts to be more optimal and consistent in providing an understanding of character values to students, guidance and counseling teachers, and homeroom teachers continuing to work together in instilling character values in students, instill character values through extracurricular activities.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to understand and analyze the implementation of the new student admission process at SMP Negeri 7 and SMP Negeri 15 Palembang in Seberang Ulu Satu District, Palembang City. The focus of this study is how the New Student Admissions (PPDB) is implemented in accordance with the regulations set by the government, as well as factors that support and hinder its implementation. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected by means of observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews, after which a qualitative descriptive analysis was conducted. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of PPDB in both schools is in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture concerning the zoning system. However, there are still a number of challenges in its implementation, including the lack of public understanding of the zoning system, damage to technological infrastructure, and the presence of outside expertise. Additionally, collaboration between schools and community organizations is crucial. The commitment of school officials and cooperation from the Education Office are the most important factors in carrying out this task. This study shows that the implementation of PPDB at SMP Negeri 7 and 15 Palembang went well, although there is still a need for improvement in the areas of socialization and transparency.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the individual and combined influence of work motivation and work discipline on the performance of civil servant (ASN) teachers in public junior high schools across Palembang City. Employing a quantitative survey approach, data were collected from a sample of 103 ASN teachers. Work motivation was measured using Porter and Lawler’s theory, work discipline via Malayu S.P. Hasibuan’s indicators, and teacher performance was assessed based on PermenPAN-RB Number 6 of 2022. Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression in SPSS 26.0. The analysis revealed that work motivation has a positive and significant effect on teacher performance (regression coefficient = 0.360, t-value = 4.880, p-value = 0.000). Conversely, work discipline demonstrated a negative and insignificant effect (regression coefficient = -0.154, t-value = -1.697, p-value = 0.093). Simultaneously, both variables significantly influenced performance (F-value = 12.045, p-value = 0.000), with the model explaining 19.4% (R-squared = 0.194) of the variance in performance. This research provides a novel empirical contrast by simultaneously testing established motivational theory (Porter and Lawler) against a disciplinary framework (Hasibuan) within the specific context of Indonesian civil servant teachers, revealing the unexpected and paradoxical finding that discipline, as measured, may not positively correlate with performance. School administrators should prioritize strategies that enhance intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, such as recognition and career development opportunities. The findings suggest that traditional punitive approaches to enforcing discipline may be counterproductive; instead, a re-evaluation of disciplinary policies towards supportive and empowering frameworks is recommended. This study contributes to educational management literature by highlighting that motivation is a more potent driver of teacher performance than discipline in this context. It provides policymakers and school leaders with evidence-based insights to design more effective professional development and performance management systems that focus on motivational factors.

Abstract

This study investigates the management of the Merdeka Curriculum in enhancing the quality of arts and culture learning at SDN 22 Talang Kelapa, a designated Sekolah Penggerak (Driving School). The research aims to explore the implementation process of curriculum management, identify challenges faced by educators, and propose solutions to overcome these issues. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive approach with data triangulation, researchers collected information through structured interviews, direct observations, and documentation. Participants included school principals, teachers, students, and school committee members. The results reveal that the planning and implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum were carried out effectively through diagnostic assessments, differentiated instruction, and reflective teaching practices. The integration of the Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila (P5) promoted students’ character building, creativity, and engagement in cross-subject learning. However, some obstacles remain, particularly related to limited digital infrastructure, insufficient experience among newly assigned teachers, and incomplete teaching modules on the official platform. To address these issues, the school conducted ongoing professional development programs and fostered collaborative practices among stakeholders. This research underscores the importance of structured curriculum management and sustained teacher support to ensure the successful implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, ultimately improving the quality of arts and culture education in primary schools.
