Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan pengaruh penggunaan teknik Mnemonic terhadap penguasaan kosakata siswa kelas 8. Penelitian ini dilakukan di MTs Muhammadiyah Lawang Tigo Balai. Terdapat beberapa pemasalahan yang ditemukan oleh penulis, diantaranya pertama, siswa sulit untuk mengingat makna dari kata-kata. Kedua, siswa sulit mengeja kata dan mereka tidak tahu bagaimana pengucapannya. Ketiga, siswa hanya mengingat kata tersebut saat berada didalam kelas, tapi setelah itu kadang-kadang mereka lupa apa yang telah mereka pelajari. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada pengaruh yang signifikan dalam penggunaan teknik Mnemonic terhadap penguasaan kosakata pada siswa kelas 8 MTs Muhammadiyah Lawang Tigo Balai. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dalam penggunaan teknik Mnemonic terhadap penguasaan kosa kata siswa serta terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan dalam penguasaan kosa kata siswa antara siswa yang diajar menggunakan teknik mnemonic dan siswa yang tidak diajar menggunakan teknik mnemonic.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the students’ attitude in Online English learning using zoom at fifth semester of English education study program in UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi. This study used a quantitative approach with a survey design. The population of this study were the students of English education study program at fifth semester academic year 2021/2022, consisting of 127 students from 4 classes. The researcher used simple random sampling technique because the population in this study was more than one hundred so sample in this study was 25% or 32 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used an instrument in the form of a questionnaire.The results of this research related to students' attitude in online English learning using zoom at the fifth semester of English education study program in UIN Bukitinggi academic year 2021/2022 show that some of students had negative and positive attitudes. Based on the findings, the negative attitude that students generally did was turned off the zoom camera when did other activities during English class using zoom with a percentage of 100%. Sometimes most of them felt sleepy while learning English using zoom with a percentage of 90.6%. Besides, they were also had positive attitude such as they liked to speak English in English class on zoom with percentage of 62.5%. So, in general indicated that the students of English education study program at fifth semester academic year 2021/2022 in UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi had negative attitude in learning English online using zoom.

Abstract

The study was carried out in response to a number of issues that were discovered in the field. There were issues with fluency among the students. When speaking in front of the class, the pupils appeared nervous because they lacked confidence in their ability to communicate their views in English. They were frightened of making grammatical, pronunciation, or fluency errors. The researcher employed a conversation method to help students improve their speaking fluency in this study. The methodology of this research was quantitative research, and the type of research was experimental research. This study used a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants in this study were all of the students of Ashabul Yamin Boarding School's grade XI B. The researcher employed the purposive sampling technique to collect the sample, with 16 students from XI B class serving as the study's sample. In other words, the Ha was accepted, which said that adopting discussion approach to improve students' speaking fluency in the XI class of Ashabul Yamin Boarding School had a substantial effect. It may be stated that employing the Discussion Strategy aided students in learning to communicate, particularly in speaking fluency.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out whether there was an improvement in students’ reading comprehension by using the NHT technique among the twelfth-grade students of MAN 3 Solok. This research was a Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research data were collected through observation and tests. The test is given to the students in the form of a reading comprehension post-test at the end of learning at each cycle. The subject of this research was the twelfth grade of religion students of MAN 3 Solok. The total number of students in the class was 28 students. The result of the analysis showed that the NHT technique could improve students’ reading comprehension. It was shown from the result of students’ reading comprehension test in two cycles. The result of the reading comprehension test showed that there were improvements in students’ reading comprehension scores by using the NHT technique. On the initial score of students (pretest), the average score of the class was 56,08. The result obtained by students in the cycle I (post-test) the average score of the class was 72,59. In the cycle II results obtained by students, the average score of the class was 79.10. Based on the students’ results in cycle I and cycle II can be concluded that the minimum criteria of score was reached. The minimum criteria for the score (KKM) was 75. Furthermore, it can be concluded that the use of the NHT technique could improve students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

This literature review analyses the effects of online games to the acquisition of students’ vocabulary in English. In order to become competent and proficient in a second language, vocabulary knowledge is essential. It is a crucial skill that students studying English as a Second Language (ESL) must acquire because understanding written and spoken communication requires a large vocabulary. Due to the general consensus that educational online games can enhance the learning process, the use of these games in vocabulary instruction is becoming more and more common. Based on library research, this study offers a review of the literature on the topic of vocabulary acquisition related to online games for ESL students. The research has demonstrated the potential of online games as learning aids for vocabulary since they increase student satisfaction with their studies and encourage independent learning.

Abstract

This journal investigates the critical roles that intercultural awareness and sociocultural development play in enhancing learners' second-language acquisition (SLA) proficiency. It explores the complex interactions between social, cultural, and environmental elements and language development and competency. The study examines how social interactions, community immersion, and cultural sensitivity substantially impact second language learners' acquisition of the language by drawing on previous research and theoretical frameworks. It also critically examines how intercultural competence affects learners' identities, promotes flexibility, and aids in effective communication within the framework of language learning. The journal also looks at instructional strategies that incorporate sociocultural and intercultural components into language instruction, with a focus on using real materials and cross-cultural interactions to improve students' language and cultural competency. This publication emphasizes the value of sociocultural and intercultural elements in maximizing the competency and overall development of students pursuing second language acquisition by examining these characteristics.

Abstract

This article aims to discuss the variation of characteristics in second language acquisition. The method used to gather data is a literature review. A literature review is employed to examine textbooks, internet resources, and relevant journals pertaining to the study's topic. The process of Second Language Acquisition (SLA) involves a spectrum of diverse characteristics among learners. This article examines the multitude of individual attributes, encompassing cognitive abilities, motivation, age, and learning styles, that contribute to the complexities within Second Language Acquisition (SLA). By acknowledging and exploring these varying traits, this examination aims to elucidate how these individual differences impact the acquisition and mastery of a second language. Understanding and accommodating these diverse characteristics are pivotal in tailoring effective pedagogical strategies and interventions within the domain of language acquisition. This comprehensive analysis underscores the importance of personalized approaches in SLA, emphasizing that recognizing and adapting to the unique needs of each learner can significantly enhance their language learning journey. By integrating these insights into educational practices, educators can foster more effective and inclusive language learning environments.

Abstract

This research investigated the challenges faced by eighth grade students at SMPN 2 Kec. Bukik Barisan in the English learning process, especially concerning vocabulary mastery. Identified problems include students’ score were below the minimum completion criteria (KKM). Secondly, some students had difficulty in remembering vocabulary. Next, some students had difficulty in understanding the meaning of the vocabulary. Furthermore, students had difficulty pronouncing English words appropriately. Finally ,teacher still used conventional method when teaching English. So, the purpose of this research is to see the effect of using chain spelling games on students’ vocabulary mastery of eighth grade students at SMPN 2 Kec. Bukik Barisan.This research used true experimental with pretest-posttest research design in experimental and control classes. Researcher used simple random sampling to determined the research sample. The samples of this research were class VIII.A as the experimental class and class VIII.B as the control class. To collect data, researcher used multiple choice tests and pronunciation tests in pre-test and post-test. The data in this research were analyzed using T-test formula with the SPSS 26 program. The results showed that the mean post-test score for the experimental class (73.880) was significantly higher than the pre-test score (59.042), indicating that the chain spelling game positively affected vocabulary mastery. In conclusion, the use of chain spelling game had an effect to improve students' vocabulary.
