Abstract

This study aims to analyze the moral messages contained in the film 172 Days, adapted from the novel by Nadzira Shafa, and to evaluate its relevance as learning material in school-based text instruction. The research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive content analysis and Roland Barthes’ semiotic framework to reveal denotative, connotative, and mythological meanings that emerge through the film’s scenes, dialogues, and visual symbols. Primary data were obtained from film documentation, while secondary data were sourced from the novel, curriculum documents, and literature related to moral values, film analysis, and text-based learning. The findings indicate that 172 Days presents strong and consistent moral messages across religious, individual, and social dimensions. Values such as sincerity in accepting destiny, steadfastness in undergoing hijrah, patience, responsibility, and familial affection are clearly depicted through the characters’ life journeys. These results demonstrate that the film is highly relevant for use as a learning medium in Indonesian language education, particularly for teaching review texts, inspirational narrative texts, and discussion texts. The use of this film is considered effective in helping students understand moral values more concretely, engagingly, and contextually. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis berbagai pesan moral yang terkandung dalam film 172 Days yang diadaptasi dari novel karya Nadzira Shafa serta menilai relevansinya sebagai bahan ajar dalam pembelajaran teks di sekolah. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan metode analisis isi deskriptif dan semiotika Roland Barthes untuk mengungkap makna denotatif, konotatif, dan mitos yang muncul melalui adegan, dialog, serta simbol visual dalam film. Data primer diperoleh dari dokumentasi film, sedangkan data sekunder berasal dari novel, dokumen kurikulum, dan literatur terkait pesan moral, analisis film, dan pembelajaran teks. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa film 172 Days mengandung pesan moral yang kuat dan konsisten pada aspek religius, individual, dan sosial. Nilai-nilai seperti keikhlasan menerima takdir, keteguhan dalam berhijrah, kesabaran, tanggung jawab, serta kasih sayang keluarga tergambar jelas melalui perjalanan hidup tokoh-tokohnya. Temuan ini membuktikan bahwa film tersebut sangat relevan digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia, terutama dalam pengajaran teks ulasan, teks narasi inspiratif, dan teks diskusi. Pemanfaatan film ini dinilai mampu membantu siswa memahami nilai moral secara lebih konkret, menarik, dan kontekstual.
