Abstract

Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the industrial sector have a significant impact on global climate change. To assess the overall environmental impact, an analysis capable of mapping emissions from various operational activities is required. This study aims to analyze GHG emissions in a manufacturing company that focuses on turbocharger system assembly and services using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method. The analysis was conducted with reference to the 2006 IPCC Guidelines and openLCA software, with the scope of research covering the transportation and energy sectors within the company. The inventory results show that the energy sector is the main contributor to emissions, with the largest impact category being climate change (GWP 100a). Next, a scenario analysis was conducted, namely real conditions, the use of solar panels, the use of diesel fuel, and a mixture. A comparison of the scenarios showed that the use of renewable energy in the form of solar panels could significantly reduce GHG emissions compared to the current conditions. This study confirms that the application of LCA can provide a quantitative picture of the potential environmental impact and serve as a scientific basis for formulating GHG emission management strategies in the industrial sector.

Abstract

Industrial batik wastewater contains dyes and organic compounds at high concentrations, posing a potential threat to aquatic environments. This study aims to evaluate theeffectiveness of electrocoagulation using series and parallel monopolar electrodeconfigurations in reducing the levels of methylene blue, methyl red, and chemical oxygendemand (COD) in batik wastewater. The process was carried out in batches, withvariations in electrode configuration, voltages of 6 and 9 volts, and contact times of 30–90 minutes, using aluminium and iron electrodes. Color concentration analysis wasperformed using UV–Vis spectrophotometry, while COD was analyzed using the closedreflux method. The results showed that increasing the voltage and contact time improvedthe removal efficiency of all parameters. The parallel monopolar configuration providedthe best performance, with reduction efficiencies of 95.23% for methylene blue, 90.02%for methyl red, and 71.21% for COD. This was influenced by a more even currentdistribution and more effective coagulant formation. Parallel monopolarelectrocoagulation has the potential to be applied as an alternative method for treatingbatik wastewater.Contribution to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):SDG 3: Good Health and Well-BeingSDG 6: Clean Water and SanitationSDG 11: Sustainable Cities and CommunitiesSDG 14: Life Below Water

Abstract

Hotel operational activities have a significant impact on the surrounding environment, both positively and negatively. The main focus of this study is to identify changes in environmental quality and natural resources that occur after the hotel operates, and to assess the potential for environmental sustainability to be maintained. Descriptive analysis methods were used to collect data through observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The data obtained were then analyzed to describe the condition of natural resources after the hotel operates. The results of the study indicate that there are significant changes in the quality of clean water, wastewater, and seawater, as well as an increase in noise and generator emissions. However, the presence of the hotel also has a positive impact in the form of increasing the local community's economy through employment opportunities and the tourism sector. The results of the study provide recommendations on the need for planned mitigation efforts through better waste management, improved environmental quality monitoring systems, and collaboration between the hotel and the community in maintaining the sustainability of natural resources. With the right approach, negative impacts can be minimized and environmental sustainability can be maintained in the long term.

Abstract

Pesantren District is home to a large sugar factory. The presence of this sugar factory has environmental impacts, including its impact on the water environment. Groundwater is a major water source for hygiene and sanitation activities in Pesantren District. Groundwater resources are vulnerable during the transitional seasons. Rivers flowing from the factory, carrying materials, overflow and seep into the ground. Groundwater quality testing in Pesantren District was conducted by taking samples to a laboratory to determine the suitability of the water for hygiene and sanitation activities within the surrounding community. The test results examined physical, chemical, and biological parameters, in accordance with Minister of Health Regulation No. 2 of 2023. Several sampling points were found to contain parameters exceeding quality standards. The results of this activity recommend improving the quality of wastewater from the sugar factory and conducting regular water quality testing to ensure its suitability for public use.
