Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of corporate governance quality on financial performance in Islamic banking in the Southeast Asian region by looking at the relationship between variables with each other. The dependent variable in this study is Financial Performance proxied by ROA (Return on Asset). The independent variable is Corporate Governance which is proxied by the Size of the Audit Committee, and the Number of Audit Committee Meetings, the Size of the Sharia Supervisory Board, and the Number of Sharia Supervisory Board Meetings. The data analysis method in this study uses multiple linear regression. The research samples used in this study were 10 (ten) Islamic commercial banks in Southeast Asian countries. The data used in this study are secondary data from annual reports and good corporate governance reports of Islamic banking in Southeast Asia for the period 2015-2019. The research findings show that GCG proxied by the Size of the Audit Committee and the Number of Audit Committee Meetings has no significant effect on financial performance proxied by ROA (Return on Asset). Meanwhile, GCG proxied by the Size of the Sharia Supervisory Board and the Number of Sharia Supervisory Board Meetings has a significant effect on financial performance proxied by ROA (Return on Asset). This shows that the role of the Sharia Supervisory Board in ensuring that company operations run in accordance with Islamic values has a very important role and is the core of the integrity and credibility of Islamic Banks and has a significant influence in improving the company's financial performance.

Abstract

Adolescence is a critical phase of transition from childhood to adulthood, characterized by various reproductive health challenges. Anaemia is a prevalent problem, with approximately 10% of women experiencing significant haemoglobin loss through menstrual bleeding. Non-pharmacological approaches, including cupping therapy, have shown promise in managing anaemia and menstrual issues. This study aimed to compare and evaluate the effectiveness of dry cupping therapy and wet cupping therapy in improving haemoglobin levels during menstruation among late adolescents. A quasi-experiment with a pre-post test without control group design was conducted. The sample consisted of 70 respondents, with 35 participants in the dry cupping group and 35 participants in the cpc-wct cupping group, selected using purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using the paired t-test and independent t-test. Both the dry cupping group (t=-4.896, p<0.001) and the cpc-wct group (t=-12.727, p<0.001) experienced a significant increase in haemoglobin level after the implementation of cupping therapy. However, there was no statistical significant difference in haemoglobin levels between groups after the intervention (t= 0.425, p=0.534). This suggests that the outcomes or measured variables did not significantly differ between the two cupping groups following the intervention. Cupping therapy, whether applied through cpc-wct or dry techniques, has the potential to enhance haemoglobin levels in adolescents during menstruation. Cpc-wct cupping, in particular, is perceived as a more effective method compared to dry cupping. Consequently, both cpc-wct and dry cupping can be considered as viable alternative interventions for raising haemoglobin levels in adolescents during menstruation.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD) which is the highest cause of death, and current treatment has many side effects that can be life-threatening, so researchers are interested in providing safe treatment solutions. One of them is traditional medicine such as aromatherapy. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out narrative research in the literature reviewing the effectiveness of lavender aroma therapy in reducing blood pressure in hypertensive patients. This research uses a Narrative Review study approach which focuses on evaluating several previous research results related to the topic. Based on data used by Google Scholar, Pubmed, and Spinger between 2019 and 2024. A total of 1,394 articles were found in the initial search stage, after filtering based on title, keywords and abstract this was reduced to 10 articles. And finally only 4 articles were selected that fit the criteria. There were 2 types of lavender aromatherapy applications, namely topical and inhalation. As well as two anti-hypertension active substances, namely linalool and linalool acetate. Lavender aromatherapy is effective in lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients. The mechanism of reduction can be explained by the active anti-hypertensive substance (linalool & linalool acetate) and its application (inhalation & topical). However, further research with better designs is still needed.

Abstract

Street children are children who spend most of their time doing daily life activities on the streets, either to make a living or roam the streets and other public places. One of the problems that threatens street children is sexual violence, where they often become victims due to the situation, conditions and environment around them. Sexual violence with child victims can have psychosocial impacts, such as children having negative self-assessment and life, having inappropriate sexual behavior, using illegal drugs and consuming alcohol, and having bad relationships with their family or the surrounding environment. The service method in the form of health education using video media was chosen to make it easier for children to receive material about preventing sexual violence. The purpose of this community service is to increase street children's knowledge about preventing sexual violence. The target was street children assisted by the Yayasan Rumah Impian Yogyakarta, a total of 30 children. The results of the service include an increase in knowledge between before and after being given health education. The plan for the next stage is to always increase motivation for children to prevent sexual violence from occurring, so as to reduce the incidence of sexual violence against children.

Abstract

Background: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) occurs in approximately 95% of people older than 40 years; usually, it is diagnosed at the age of 60 years. The etiology of OSCC is multifactorial. Chronic mechanical trauma due to sharp teeth has also been suggested as an etiology of oral squamous of the tongue. Purpose: This case report aimed to describe the etiology of OSCC resulting from mechanical trauma and to prevent further metastasis by correctly diagnosing the lesion earlier. Case: A 49-year-old female patient presented with painful and swollen stomatitis two months ago. No submandibular lymph nodes were palpable. An indurated ulceration and sharp teeth on the right region of the jaw were obtained from the intraoral examination. Malignancy was concluded from Histopathology Examination (HPE) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) radiography results. Case Management: Multiple extractions were chosen to eliminate the etiology of mechanical trauma due to sharp teeth, and the patient underwent hemiglossectomy with the keyhole method. Postoperative, the histopathology examination revealed an OSCC of the tongue. The patient is currently in the second cycle of chemotherapy by hematologist-oncologists. Conclusion: The early appropriate diagnosis of a tongue ulcer can prevent metastasis, decrease morbidity, and increase quality of life.

Abstract

This article challenges the traditional definition of music, limited to seven fixed elements: melody, harmony, rhythm, pitch, tempo, dynamics, and texture. The author suggests that all sound can be considered 'sound art,' blurring lines between music and other auditory experiences. In Mark Fisher’s hauntology, modern music is depicted as stagnant, trapped in a neoliberal pastiche that cancels the future by repeating past styles without innovation. However, this article highlights alternatives through experimental music, such as the album ANTIMELODY (2024), which uses field recording to present raw environmental sounds, challenging conventional musical structures. Movements like Jogja Noise Bombing and experimental music group Senyawa explore noise-based sounds, rejecting traditional melodies and industrial nostalgia. Music distribution via Bandcamp or Senyawa’s decentralized approach challenges Spotify’s dominance, known for unfair royalty systems, by offering better artist compensation. This article argues that in the independent music scene, innovative alternatives persist, counteracting Fisher’s “cancellation of the future,” proving that new creativity can defy the haunting influence of past cultural forms.
