Abstract

This research discusses the impact of climate change on human health using a medical geography approach. Climate change affects health through extreme heatwaves, changing patterns of infectious disease spread and intensification of natural disasters. A medical geography perspective provides insight into how geographical factors such as climate, topography and population distribution affect vulnerability to these impacts. The importance of understanding medical geography in meeting these challenges and the need for global cooperation to address the impacts of climate change on human health are emphasized. The article underscores the need for appropriate mitigation measures to protect future human health in the face of increasingly apparent climate change.

Abstract

This research describes the use of Google Earth Engine as a key tool in analyzing flood vulnerability in DKI Jakarta Province. By combining high-quality satellite data, detailed city surface mapping, and advanced geospatial analysis capabilities, this technology has opened the door to a deeper understanding of the factors that influence flood risk in this densely populated region. This research uses the variables distance from river, elevation, TPI (Topographic Position Index) and NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index). Processing and analysis in this research was carried out in Google Earth Engine. The results of this study indicate that the area at the low flood vulnerability level has an area of 14,735.61 ha or 22.53%, the area at the medium vulnerability level is 32,512.94 ha or 49.71% and the area at the high flood vulnerability level is 18,153.42 ha or 27.76%. The results of this research are expected to help the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in flood mitigation.

Abstract

The population of Ternate City which is increasing every year can certainly cause the need for land as a space for their activities to increase and will lead to a kind of competition to get a suitable space and in accordance with the various interests and needs of the community there. This study aims to spatially analyze the suitability of built-up land on Ternate Island, North Maluku Province. This research uses Spatial Multi Criteria Analysis method using variables of terrain shape, slope, distance from road, distance from river, distance from economic activity center, and disaster prone area of Mount Gamalama. The results showed that 49.12% of the Ternate Island area was in the suitable area, 29.57% of the research area was in the less suitable class and the unsuitable class had an area of 21.31% of the total research area. The results of this study are expected to be a reference and input for the evaluation of the Ternate City RTRW in the future.

Abstract

This research aims to map landslide-prone areas in Huamual Sub-district, West Seram Regency, Indonesia. Through the collection and analysis of geospatial data, including characteristics of slope, land elevation, geology, rainfall, land cover and distance from active faults, this study successfully identified areas with high potential landslide risk. The results showed that the area in low landslide class has an area of 5,076.67 ha, the area in medium class has an area of 20,979.79 ha and the area in high landslide prone class has an area of 7,430.88 ha. The results of this study provide an important contribution in landslide risk mitigation planning, through identification of zones that need special attention, safer spatial planning, and more effective early warning system. This research provides a strong scientific basis for the government and other stakeholders to take appropriate preventive measures, so as to improve public safety and protect important assets from potential landslide hazards in Huamual Sub-district area.

Abstract

As an alternative solution to the waste problem, the development of waste banks is one of the social engineering activities that teach people to sort waste and foster public awareness in waste management. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of Beta Waste Bank in managing plastic waste in Hative Besar Village, Teluk Ambon District, Ambon City. The type of research used in this research is descriptive qualitative. This research was conducted in Hative Besar Village, Teluk Ambon District, Ambon City. The subjects in this study were the founders of Beta Bank Sampah and Beta Bank Sampah customers totaling 12 people. The variable in this study uses a single variable, namely the waste bank manager. The single variable will be described by referring to Permen LH No. 13 of 2012. In this study, researchers used several data collection techniques, namely, observation, interviews, questionnaires and documentation. Based on the results of the research conducted, Beta Bank Sampah is a community that is actively engaged in efforts to maintain environmental balance by carrying out the process of recycling plastic waste into economically valuable creations. good awareness efforts towards environmental cleanliness, especially towards the impact of the threat of plastic waste which is increasing along with the growth rate of society. and Beta Bank Sampah has helped the city government in realizing the clean Ambon program by reducing the use of plastic waste in people's lives.

Abstract

Flood hazard modeling in watersheds is an important step in natural disaster risk mitigation, especially in vulnerable areas such as Ambon City. This research focused on the Wai Batu Gantung, Wai Batu Gajah, Wai Tomu, Wai Batu Merah, and Wai Ruhu watersheds, using JRC Global Surface Water Mapping Layers data, NASA SRTM Digital Elevation 30 m data, and USGS Landsat 8 Level 2, Collection 2, Tier 1 data analyzed on the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform. Prediction of built-up land in flood-prone areas was conducted by utilizing flood history analysis, hydrological modeling, and flood zone mapping. The results show that flood hazard modeling provides a better understanding of flood risk, assists in the development of safer land use planning, and increases public awareness of flood risk in Ambon City. It is hoped that the results of this research can contribute to flood risk management and sustainable regional development in the future.

Abstract

The development of built-up land over the last 15 years in Ambon City has affected changes in land cover in the Wae Batugantung watershed. This is due to increasing population growth, and the increasing need for residential land. Changes in land cover in the Wae Batu Gantung watershed have an impact on land degradation, water pollution, flooding, and erosion, which will increase in the future. This study aims to analyze land cover changes in the Wae Batu Gantung watershed in 2012, 2017, 2022, and predict land cover in 2027, and 2031. The Cellular Automata Markov Chain method was used in this study to predict the spatial dynamics of land cover change. The results of the study show that from 2012, 2017, 2022, and predictions for 2027, and 2031 residential land, and open land in the Wae Batutangan watershed continue to expand, in contrast to non-agricultural land cover, and agricultural land which is decreasing. The results of this study are expected to be input into policy making related to spatial utilization in the Wae Batugantung Watershed in the future.

Abstract

The geographical conditions of Moa Lakor District, Southwest Maluku Regency, located within the Ring of Fire, with relatively flat topography and high population density in coastal areas, make Moa Lakor District highly susceptible to tsunami disasters in Maluku Province. This study aims to map the physical conditions of the region in an effort to mitigate tsunami disasters in Moa Lakor District, Southwest Maluku Regency, Maluku Province. The physical condition data used in this study include land elevation, slope gradient, and distance from the coast. These three variables were assigned scores and weights, which were then overlaid to produce a tsunami hazard map and identify affected built-up areas. The results indicate that the high tsunami hazard class covers 65.35% of the area, totaling 23,534.71 hectares. The medium hazard class covers 7,852.43 hectares or 21.80%, and the low hazard class covers 4,627.39 hectares or 12.85%. The built-up land predicted to be in the high hazard zone covers 738.33 hectares, in the medium hazard zone covers 162.98 hectares, and in the low hazard zone covers 56.52 hectares.
