Abstract

Teluk Baguala District, Ambon City is frequently affected by flood and landslide disasters. This study uses the Maximum Entropy method to model flood and landslide hazard areas based on environmental variables and the spatial distribution of disaster occurrences. The flood mapping results show that areas with low vulnerability cover the largest area, totaling 5,296.07 hectares, while medium-risk areas cover only 188.84 hectares, and high-risk areas cover 493.97 hectares. The area with low landslide vulnerability reaches 2,595.19 hectares, whereas medium vulnerability areas are smaller at 2,327.26 hectares, and very vulnerable or high-risk areas cover only 694.73 hectares. The flood validation test shows an AUC value of 0.974, while the landslide AUC value is 0.851. These mapping results are expected to assist the government in flood and landslide disaster mitigation efforts in the future.

Abstract

Floods are a common hydrometeorological disaster in Teluk Ambon Sub-district ; therefore, modeling is necessary as a mitigation measure. To address this challenge, Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing technologies have proven to be powerful tools in flood disaster analysis and modeling. This study uses 10 variables, including elevation, slope, TWI, NDVI, precipitation, land cover, soil type, drainage density, distance from roads, and distance from rivers. This study uses the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. The results show that distance from rivers has the greatest contribution (14.08%) to flooding in Teluk Ambon Sub-district . The level of flood vulnerability in Teluk Ambon Sub-district  is divided into three classes, namely low risk, covering an area of 8,642.26 ha or 64.71%; medium risk, covering an area of 4,066.79 ha or 30.45%; and high risk, covering an area of 646.44 ha or 4.84%. Settlements predicted to be affected by flooding in the low class cover an area of 130.36 ha, or 11.59%; the medium class covers an area of 649.29 ha, or 57.73%; and the high class covers an area of 345.07 ha, or 30.68%. The results of this study are very important in providing a more precise flood risk map to support spatial planning and disaster mitigation in the affected areas.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the concept of political ecology in the context of the relationship between humans and the environment. Through a qualitative approach, literature analysis, case studies, and interviews were conducted to understand the implementation of the concept of political ecology. The results of the analysis show the complexity of socio-environmental interactions and the scale of political ecology. The findings provide a deeper understanding of the political and cultural dynamics in the representation of "nature". Thus, this research makes an important contribution to understanding political ecology from a geographical perspective. In conclusion, the political ecology approach provides a comprehensive picture and effective solutions in dealing with increasingly complex environmental problems.

Abstract

The impact of climate change on Asian forests is significant because it can affect temperature, rainfall, forest growth, seasonal patterns, and ecosystem balance. The research method used is a literature study that includes analyzing historical data, current observations, and monitoring climate change trends in the Asian region. The results show that climate change has led to an increase in average temperatures, changes in rainfall patterns, and melting of glaciers and ice in the Asian mountains. These impacts extend to various aspects of life, including ecosystems, agriculture, human well-being, and natural resource availability. Therefore, comprehensive mitigation and adaptation strategies and international cooperation are needed to protect Asia's forest ecosystems and increase people's resilience to the impacts of climate change.

Abstract

Economic growth, urbanization, and infrastructure development are the main drivers of the increase in built-up land area in Ternate Selatan Sub-district. This study aims to investigate and understand the dynamics of land use evolution over a period of one decade. Using satellite image data and image processing techniques, an analysis was conducted to identify significant changes in land cover, particularly in relation to economic growth, urbanization, and infrastructure development. The results showed an increase in the area of built-up land in Ternate SelatanSub-district from 2014 to 2024 along with changes in land use patterns that reflect development pressure. In 2014, the percentage of built-up land area in Ternate SelatanSub-district was 24.69% and continued to increase in 2024 to 31.44% of the total area of Ternate Island. In contrast to other land cover classes that experienced a decrease in area. The results of this study are expected to provide an important contribution for policy makers, environmentalists, and other stakeholders in designing appropriate measures to maintain the balance between economic growth and nature conservation in Ternate SelatanSub-district.

Abstract

Climate change has become a pressing global issue, with vulnerable countries such as the Russian Federation facing significant challenges. This research aims to explore the role of Russian government policies in addressing the impacts of global climate change. The research method used is a literature study that includes data analysis from various reliable sources. The results and discussion highlight that Russia is vulnerable to climate change due to its vast territory and dependence on the fossil fuel industry. Socio-economic impacts such as heat waves, forest fires and permafrost thawing have reinforced the urgency of mitigation and adaptation measures. Recommendations include strengthening climate policies, diversifying energy sources, raising public awareness, international collaboration, and technological innovation. By addressing challenges such as lack of public awareness and limited resources, Russia can play a more proactive role in protecting the environment and creating a sustainable future.

Abstract

This study presents a comprehensive analysis of the average Land Surface Temperature (LST) of Java Island, Indonesia, for the year 2024, utilizing the reduceRegions function in Google Earth Engine (GEE). Rapid urbanization and environmental changes on Java Island have significant implications for its climate and thermal conditions, necessitating effective monitoring and analysis of LST. The research employs satellite-based remote sensing techniques to assess the relationship between vegetation cover and surface temperatures, revealing that areas with higher vegetation density tend to exhibit lower surface temperatures. This finding aligns with previous studies, underscoring the importance of green spaces in urban environments. The analysis not only contributes to a deeper understanding of Java Island's environmental dynamics but also provides critical insights for policymakers and urban planners. The results can inform strategies for climate adaptation and sustainable development, addressing ongoing environmental challenges. Limitations of the study are acknowledged, and recommendations for future research are proposed, emphasizing the need for continued exploration of LST variations in relation to urbanization and climate change. Overall, this research serves as a valuable resource for enhancing environmental management practices on Java Island and similar regions facing rapid development.

Abstract

This research explores the impact of climate change on increasing land surface temperature (LST) in Indonesia, which has shown a significant upward trend in recent decades. Using a systematic literature review, the research analyzed 50 relevant studies, identifying factors such as deforestation, urbanization, and greenhouse gas emissions as the main causes of increased LST. The research also highlights the serious implications of temperature change on agriculture, public health and water resources, which could lead to food insecurity and increased health risks. In addition, the research emphasizes the importance of understanding public attitudes and beliefs towards climate change to formulate effective policies. With an interdisciplinary approach, the results of this research aim to provide insights for policymakers and stakeholders in developing sustainable mitigation strategies, as well as increasing community resilience to the impacts of climate change in Indonesia.
