Abstract

Leachate is  a liquid with an unpleasant odor and dark color that generally contains high organic and inorganic matter. High levels of organic and inorganic matter in leachate will potentially cause environmental pollution if not treated properly. One of the efforts that can be made to overcome these problems is with phytoremediation techniques. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of water bamboo (Equisetum hymale) as a phytoremediation agent  of Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) leachate of Jatibarang landfill. This study used experimental research with a one-factorial Complete Randomized Design (RAL) design with three treatments (P0 without water bamboo, P1 750 gr water bamboo, and P2 1000 gr water bamboo). Based on the results of research shows that water bamboo plants can reduce BOD and COD levels. The decrease in leachate BOD levels was caused by the phytoremediation process by water bamboo during the study, where the organic matter content in leachate would be degraded by microorganisms. Meanwhile, COD levels decreased due to the chemical oxidation reaction process and phytoremediation process that runs side by side. The effectiveness of reducing BOD levels most optimally occurred in treatment P2 on day 7 of treatment, which was 28.42%; while the percentage of effectiveness of reducing COD levels most optimally occurred in treatment P2 on day 7 of treatment, which was 39.14%

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Typha angustifolia L. as a phytoremediation agent in reducing Pb and Cu concentrations in river water. The research employed a true experimental method using a completely randomized design with three biomass treatments (0 g, 80 g, and 160 g), each conducted in triplicate at two independently treated observation stations. The incubation period lasted seven days, during which metal concentrations were measured on days 0, 3, and 7 using atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS). The results demonstrated that the 160 g biomass treatment achieved the highest remediation efficiency. On day 7, Pb concentrations were reduced by 98.87% at Station 1 and 98.13% at Station 2, while Cu concentrations decreased by 91.76% and 94.88% at Stations 1 and 2, respectively. Statistical analysis using ANOVA followed by Tukey’s post hoc test indicated a significant effect of treatment on metal reduction (p < 0.05). It can be concluded that Typha angustifolia L. is effective as a phytoremediation agent, with remediation efficiency increasing with greater biomass and longer contact time, highlighting its potential application as an environmentally friendly solution for heavy metal pollution control.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of variations in the number of dips and types of fixatives, as well as their interaction, on the color fastness of batik fabrics dyed using natural dyes based on Rhizophora mucronata propagules. The study used a quantitative approach with an experimental method and a two-factor factorial design, namely variations in the number of dips (3 times, 6 times, and 9 times) and the type of fixative (alum and iron mordant). The parameter observed was color fastness to washing based on the SNI ISO 105-C06:2010 standard. The data were analyzed using the nonparametric Aligned Rank Transform Analysis of Variance (ART ANOVA) test. The results showed that (1) the variation in the number of dips did not significantly affect the color fastness of batik fabric; (2) the type of fixative used also did not have a significant effect; and (3) there was no interaction between the variation in the number of dips and the type of fixative on color fastness. All treatments produced color fastness values in the fair to good category. These findings indicate that under the conditions and range of treatments used, variations in dyeing or the type of fixative did not significantly affect colorfastness, thus requiring further study with a wider range of treatments to optimize the mangrove-based natural dyeing process.

Abstract

Abstract

The short shelf life of fruits often leads to quick spoilage, making them unsuitable for further use. Fruit Classic Enzyme offers an alternative to extend fruit shelf life through the principles of functional food biotechnology. This study aims to identify the techniques of Fruit Classic Enzyme in prolonging fruit freshness through organic fermented beverages and to explore its potential as an entrepreneurial product. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method, describing the quality and characteristics of the Fruit Classic Enzyme product. The results revealed the production process, laboratory analysis, and various derivative products, including Fruit Classic Enzyme Pure, Ready to Drink, Anti-Inflammatory, and Jelly variants. In conclusion, Fruit Classic Enzyme serves as an effective innovation to extend fruit shelf life using functional food biotechnology fermentation, resulting in diverse organic beverage products.

Abstract

This empowerment is a dedication to the people of Mlatiharjo Village, Patean District, Kendal Regency as a form of the Partner Village Development Program. This empowerment aims to a) provide solutions to the problems of the community in the form of the abundant spice coffee garden with a distinctive aroma of herbs with a holistic approach to multi-disciplinary research; b) empowering typical spices of coffee beans to become spice coffee powder with high selling value; c) provide the potential strengthening of the Mlatiharjo Village community through the application of research results in the form of making various spices; and d) forming a guided village as the Aneka Aroma Spice Coffee Sentra Village as one of the science-techno-park models of Semarang PGRI University. The method in implementing the Village Partner Development Program is by collaborating between three parties to resolve partner problems, namely Semarang PGRI University, Dikti's DRPM and Kendal District Government. The results of empowerment activities are processing coffee spices to become high-value coffee grounds, granting coffee processing equipment, P-IRT permits for coffee powder products produced, business licenses in the form of coffee shops and coffee cafes in the area and outside Kendal City, articles scientific and scientific publications. Conclusions of empowerment activities carried out in Mlatiharjo Village were successful, without any constraints and it was hoped that processing of spice coffee beans could become Mlatiharjo Village as a Spice Coffee Sentra Village and improve the economy of the Mlatiharjo Village community.
