Abstract

Kajian ini merupakan kajian estetik formalistik (estetik intrinsik) terhadap topeng Malangan. Dengan menggunakan konsep estetika Edmund Burke Feldman yang terdiri dari  aspek : 1) Struktur, 2) Fungsi, 3) Gaya, dan 4) Makna, maka kajian ini diharapkan mampu menjelaskan topeng Malangan ditinjau dari segi fungsi, gaya dan struktur, serta menjelaskan interaksi medium dan makna pada topeng Malangan. Dengan metodologi kualitatif, maka penarikan data menggunakan metode observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan dokumentasi. Hasil dari kajian ini ialah topeng Malangan memiliki fungsi sosial sebagai sarana seniman memperoleh penerimaan sosial, sebagai  benda yang  diciptakan untuk audiens tertentu, dan sebagai sarana mempengaruhi perilaku orang secara kolektif. Topeng Malangan memiliki fungsi fisik, sebagai souvenir, sebagai elemen estetik interior, dan sebagai salah satu properti dalam pertunjukan wayang topeng Malangan. Gaya ketepatan obyektif  dan urutan formal juga nampak pada topeng Malangan. Secara umum, terdapat 15 elemen beserta stilisasinya, yang membentuk struktur topeng Malangan, elemen tersebut terdiri dari : 1) Mata, 2) Alis, 3) Hidung, 4) Bibir, 5) Kumis, 6) Jenggot, 7) Jambang, 8) Rambut, 9) Urna, 10) Hiasan, 11) Jamang, 12) Cula, 13) Sumping, 14) Isen-isen, dan 15) Warna. Gambaran angkara murka dan kebaikan budi dijelaskan melalui interaksi antar elemen tersebut, yang dapat dipahami sebagai pertarungan antara kebaikan dan keburukan yang lazim diceritakan dalam pewayangan.

Abstract

City branding is a one way to establish the city competitiveness, and currently, the main focus and the most pressing needs. The need for a regional/city brand, will make the the region has a strong positioning, especially in the field of global tourism. With elaborative approach to the theories of branding, marketing management, semiotics and aesthetics, this paper aims to describe a handy and scientific method of city branding. From these elaborative approach, it can be concluded a city branding method that consists of 5 stages: 1) Determine the city's core brand value by first outlining potential values owned by the city, with involving internal stakeholders; 2) Determine the city's core brand message, by the way look at the gap between the perception of the city with the reality of the city, which is carried out with the involvement of external stakeholders; 3) Determine the personality of the city, with the potential to describe the personality of the city, and then determine the personality core, this is done by engaging internal stakeholders; 4) Determine the brand icon of the city, consisting of two approaches, there is formal approaches (aesthetic), and the semiotic approach centered on the content; and the last is 5) Designing brand roadmap.

Abstract

SWOT analysis is the first step for the preparation of higher education curricula, namely assessing the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats faced by institutions of higher education, in this case the Visual Communication Design Study Program of Ma Chung University . The purpose of this SWOT analysis is to find the formulation of the strategy of the Visual Communication Design Study Program at Ma Chung University in the form of: 1) Grand strategy; 2) Determination of the main objectives of the grand strategy, 3) Description of internal and external factors and 4) Suggestions for curriculum development in relation to the organization's grand strategy. By using both quantitative and qualitative methods (mix methods) the results of the strategy are obtained: 1) The use and strengthening of Blended Learning-OBE learning development; 2) Improving the strategic management of the study program, 3) Reorganizing academic administration at the level of the study program with formal, clear and certain procedures; 4) Give more attention to the method of learning field studies, 5) Establish cooperation with various partners both industry, in terms of sharing infrastructure and facilities; 6) Use of open source software; 7) Guest lectures that prioritize graduates / alumni; 8) Sharpen again, while evaluating Field Work Practices in the freelancer mode; and 9) Updating the concentration of studies; and 10) Prioritizing group activities to improve teamwork.

Abstract

Poetics atau Puitika, merupaka karya Aristoteles yang menyajikan pokok-pokok pemikirannya tentang estetika, khususnya drama. Beberapa hal didalamnya meliputi bentuk plot dan perwatakan dalam drama, perumitan, perbedaan diantara beragam jenis puisi atau tragedi. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk merangkum dan memberikan sedikit ulasan terhadap pokok-pokok pemikiran Aristoteles di dalam Poetics, khususnya yang terkait dengan unsur-unsur Tragedi, yakni : 1) Alur/Plot; 2) Watak/Karakter dan Perwatakan; 3). Pemikiran (Tought); 4) Diksi; 5) Nyanyian dan Spectacle (Tontonan); dan 6) Tentang Nasib, Adegan Tragis, dan Kengerian. Dari pembacaan yang telah dilakukan, ditemukan bahwa Aristoteles mendefinisikan tragedi sebagai Mimesis Praxeos, "imitation of action". "Praxis" atau "Tindakan" dalam konteks ini sering dimaknai merujuk pada tindakan yang disengaja dalam keadaan rasional dan sadar. Hal ini memiliki konsep mimesis yang berbeda dangan mimesis dalam korpus Platon. Di samping itu, di dalam Poetics, nampak pemikiran Aristotle yang cenderung Formalistik, meskipun pada akhirnya bercorak fungsional, artinya apa yang sudah disampaikan Aristotle dalam Poetics mengenai Tragedi atau seni drama yang baik, bermuara pada sajian tontonan yang bermutu dan mendidik. Hal ini juga dapat dikatakan bahwa sajian drama yang baik menjadikan masyarakat memperoleh pengertian tentang keutamaan moral. Alih-alih formalistik, pemikiran Aristotle berujung pada fungsionalisme.

Abstract

Proyek seni rupa “Unreasonableness” dilaksanakan dengan bertolak dari beberapa permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh komunitas Kentjingandjing, yakni (1) Permasalahan seputar menejemen pameran seni rupa, yang meliputi permasalahan pendanaan, sumber daya manusia, dan infrastruktur kesenian, (2) Pandangan publik seni kota Malang terhadap “fungsi” seni, serta (3) Penumbuhan kesadaran seniman sebagai seorang ilmuwan. Proyek dilaksanakan dengan mengimplementasikan metode penciptaan seni rupa yang bersifat ilmiah, yang terdiri dari 3 tahap yakni : (1) Internalisasi dan Inkubasi Gagasan; (2) Rumusan Konsep Penciptaan; dan (3) Eksekusi Penciptaan Karya Seni. Kesimpulan yang didapat dari aktivitas ini bahwa kegiatan ini telah secara efektif menjadi solusi dari permasalahan seputar manajemen seni rupa, namun untuk menumbuhkan kesadaran seni di kalangan masyarakat, kegiatan semacam ini masih memerlukan massifikasi, atau setidaknya merupakan kegiatan yang berkesinambungan dimana berbagai disiplin ilmu dapat terlibat. Disamping itu, metode ilmiah yang diimplementasikan dalam kegiatan ini dinilai cukup efektif oleh beberapa orang seniman yang terlibat, namun sebagian berpendapat penggunaan metode yang ‘rigid’ seperti ini justru membelenggu eksplorasi ide dan gagasan penciptaan, disamping itu kurang fleksibel bagi fluktuasi-fluktuasi yang akan sangat mungkin terjadi dalam proses penciptaan seni. ABSTRACT"Unreasonableness" art project conducted by starting from some problems faced by the Kentjingandjing, which is (1) The problems of an art exhibition management, which includes issues of funding, human resources, and infrastructure of the arts, (2) public view towards the "function"of art, and (3) artist awareness as a scientist. This projects conducted by implementing scientific methods of art creation, which consists of three stages: 1) Internalization and Incubation of Idea; 2) The formulation of the concept of Creation; and 3) Creation of Art. The conclusion that this activity has effectively become the solution of the issues surrounding the management of art, but to raise awareness of the arts in society, this activity still requires massification, or at least is sustainable activities in which various disciplines can be involved. Besides, the scientific method that implemented in this activity is effective by some of the artists, but some argue the use of methods that 'rigid' like this, would handcuff the idea of creation, in addition to the lack of flexibility for the fluctuations which may occur in the process of artistic creation.

Abstract

Studies in Raden Saleh's painting "Gouvernour - Generaal Daendels en de Grote Postweg" (1838) using the methods of historical research , with Erwin Panofsky’s Iconology and iconography theoretical approaches. As for the study of literature, investigation is conducted at the documentation centers or art archives centers. The conclusions obtained in this study is the first ; the primary meaning of this painting which formed from factual meaning and exspressional meaning is the Daendels’s superiority, drawn in the Romanticism style. The second, on the iconographic analysis, this painting expresses the theme of political conflict and tragedy caused by the oppression of colonialism and imperialism, or the concept of suppression. The third, the painting is a symbols of his crystallized criticism or resistance against oppression by the Netherlands Indie government, but the expression is "disguised" by him in a portrait painting.

Abstract

Javanese script now has faded. Javanese script currently used to elementary schools, besides that, Javanese script book references are very few and it difficult to someone who wants to learn Javanese script. Therefore, Javanese script learning book was designed to increase the interest of learning in adolescent, also to preserve Javanese culture. This design uses qualitative methods that produce primary and secondary data. It begins with research, analysis, synthesis, design of content concepts, visual concepts, design design concepts, final design and production. It will produce Javanese script learning book for beginners. This book uses six types of paper, book size 148mm x 210 mm with softcover. Media supporters are worksheets, typeface, poster typeface, fabric sign, motion graphic and social media promotion. This book has been tested for effectiveness through qualitatively questionnaire and concluded that the visual aspect change the stigma of learning Javanese scripts that was bored to fun learning.

Abstract

At present, specifically millennial generation, both children and teenagers in Indonesia are more familiar with the popularity of western-style astrology than Chinese astrology. Chinese astrology is assumed with ancient and boring things. That is because the way how to present eastern astrological merely informative content, such as history books, eastern astrological knowledge, etc. without containing of visual storytelling content. For this reason, there is an alternative media solution to solve these problems, named "Designing Chinese Astrological Storytelling Artbooks for Children". The method used is non-metric (qualitative). Qualitative data obtained from literature studies, observations, and interviews. The outputs are two-dimensional illustrations of the Twelve Chinese Astrology's Artbook.

Abstract

Referring to the study of Indonesian Comics, most of the critics and researchers agreed on Indonesia's first comic is Put On, (Kho Wan Gie), published in the 1930s in Sin Po Daily in the form of humorous strip comic medium. Most consider the reliefs of the Borobudur temple, wayang beber, and wayang kulit as "forerunners" of Indonesian comics. This is an odd compilation that considers Put On as the first Indonesian comic while believing the relief of the Borobudur temple as the forerunner to the form of comics as a medium. Also, historically it has no logical connection, both in terms of continuity (continuity) and change (change). Such claims are also related to the triumph of ahistorical traditional notions of comics. This incident caused the relief of Borobudur temple to be dragged into the comic category, or claimed to be the forerunner of Indonesian comics. This essay explores the socio-historio-cultural context to expose this. From the description of the arguments obtained several conclusions that: 1) Relief of the Borobudur temple cannot be approved as the forerunner of Indonesian comics, which have no continuity and also ‘the genealogy line is quite clear; 2) Modern Indonesian comics do not inherit relief or puppet traditions in terms of stylization, technique, material, axonometric revolution and also the direction of reading; 3) The form, structure, characteristics, and mediums of Indonesian comics in the early days of their emergence, were known by Indonesian comic artists through the learning process for foreign painters/artists, or by introducing European and American comics which were sent in advance and transferred to Indonesia.

Abstract

AbstrakDalam kehidupan manusia komunikasi menjadi halyang sangat penting, tidak terlepas dari mediakomunikasi yang digunakan. Sosial media menjadisalah satu media komunikasi yang paling mendominasiyang secara langsung memberikan dampak positifberupa semakin mudahnya penyebaran informasi yangpenting. Sedangkan dampak negatifnya yaitu dapatmenimbulkan konflik sosial didunia maya seperticyberbully, berita bohong (hoax), dan perdebatan yangberujung pada hujatan. Oleh karena itu, komik ini dibuatdengan tujuan untuk memberikan edukasi kepadamasyarakat terkait penggunaan sosial media yang baikdan benar. Hasil dari perancangan ini berupa komikcetak yang berjudul “Shut Down !” dengan konsepcerita yaitu karakter melakukan penyalahgunaan sosialmedia akan mendapatkan akibat yang buruk.Perancangan komik ini, didukung oleh media promosiberupa x-banner, poster, kaos, gantungan kunci, bookletdan gelas (mug). Dalam membuat sebuah komikdiperlukan sebuah proses yang panjang, konsentrasi,ketekunan, tenaga dan waktu yang panjang. Untukmenghasilkan cerita yang baik juga diperlukan studikasus dan pustaka terkait cerita maupun unsurunsuryang membentuk sebuah komik. Disamping itu,kemampuan menggambar yang fasih, juga menjadimodal utama dalam membuat sebuah komik.draw fluently, also became the main capital in makingcomics. Kata kunci : Sosial media, cyberbully,hoax, perdebatan, komik. AbstractIn social life communication becomes very important,not apart from the communication media used. Socialmedia is one of the most interesting communicationmedia that provides positive information that facilitatesthe dissemination of important information. While thenegative impact is that it can lead to social conflicts suchas cyberbully, false news (deception), and discussedwhich leads to blasphemy. Therefore, this comic wascreated with the aim of providing education to the publicrelated to the use of social media that is good and right.The results of this design include a printed comic entitled"Shut Down!" with the concept of the story that thecharacters do social media will get bad. The design ofthis comic, supported bypromotional media in the form of x-banners, posters,tshirts, key chains, booklets and cups (mugs). In makinga comic it takes a long process, organizing,perseverance, energy and a long time. To produce goodstories, case studies and literature related stories areneeded or not to create comics.
