Abstract

This research aims to analyze the problems of students’ reading skills on the coast of Lhokseumawe at Banda Sakti 15 State Elementary School. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The research sample was selected using purposive sampling involving 10 fifth grade students, 10 parents and 1 teacher. Data was collected through reading tests, interviews and analyzed through three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The main focus of the research is fluency, voice clarity, pronunciation and intonation. Time triangulation is used to test the validity of the data. This research was carried out on May 29 s.d. June 29 2024 in Ujong Blang Village, Banda Sakti District, Lhokseumawe City. The research results show that students’ reading skill levels vary greatly. As many as five out of ten students show significant difficulties in reading, caused by factors such as difficulty recognizing and combining letters into words, as well as reading word by word without comprehensive understanding. This reflects that most are still at the basic stage and have not yet reached reading proficiency. These findings emphasize the importance of collaboration between parents and schools to create an environment that supports the development of students' reading skills both at home and at school.

Abstract

Teachers recognize that different language teaching methods are appropriate for different situations. The social context and desire of immigrant adults to learn English as a Second Language (ESL) requires that the educational approach be different from that of other students. who must pass the school exams. SFL's contributions to language teaching focus on providing descriptions of the language as it is actually used and suggesting ways to help learners understand its usage. In other words, they tend to focus on the expected learning outcome rather than the learning process. This helps researchers find contextual features that influence the grammatical features of the language under study. We analyze the ups and downs of language use in cultural and situational contexts and how language function development responds to the functional demands of the situation. Here are some facts that can be used as evidence of conversational behavior development and change. The context of the spoken language is relatively stable, making it easier for non-fluent speakers to share information. Fluent speakers are more free or flexible than non-fluent speakers when introducing context, and the use of dynamic speech by NS and NNS has been shown to help maintain conversational flow. I'm here. At the lower level, acknowledgments and repairs are often used as dynamic functions. These two types of functionality have more limited functionality than the prompt and instruction types that occur at higher levels. This opens the opportunity for tender negotiations

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe spelling errors in descriptive texts of grade XI students of SMA Negeri 3 Lhokseumawe. This research method is descriptive qualitative. Data were collected using documentation and note-taking techniques. Data analysis techniques were carried out through several stages, namely collecting data samples and identifying errors, classifying data based on the type of spelling errors, and describing the forms of errors found. The results of the study indicate that many students still make spelling errors, such as errors in capitalization, writing basic words, redundant words, pronouns, prepositions, abbreviations and acronyms, period errors, and comma errors. These errors are caused by students' lack of accuracy and understanding in implementing Indonesian Spelling when writing. In this case, students must be given a better understanding of Indonesian Spelling. To overcome this problem, teachers have an important role in providing more intensive learning related to the implementation of Indonesian Spelling. One effort that can be done is to provide structured writing exercises, accompanied by direct feedback on spelling errors made by students. Furthermore, the use of digital learning media, such as spelling correction apps or interactive writing platforms, can help students improve their writing skills more effectively. With the right learning strategies, it is hoped that students will be able to understand spelling rules in depth and apply them correctly in every writing activity. Furthermore, students' writing skills also need to be honed through more varied activities, such as writing competitions, daily journals, or creative writing projects that require consistent application of spelling rules. Teachers can also implement a peer review method, where students correct each other's writing, thus creating collaborative learning that can increase language awareness.
