Abstract

Modern technology causes environmental problems and climate change. An eco-friendly school becomes one of the solutions to that problem in Indonesia. However, the program has not been effective for society to change their attitude and behavior. This research aims to find an appropriate solution using several steps; to analyze students’ scientific attitude and environmental knowledge; to analyze the role of teacher and parents; and to formulate an action to increase students’ scientific attitude. This descriptive qualitative research results on students’ scientific attitude that changes the behavior in daily life, measured by using a particular indicator. This needs cooperation between teachers and parents to support changes in students' characters.

Abstract

The habit of communicating with English in daily life causes a decrease in students' ability to speak Indonesian. This research aims to develop Flashcard "SPOKEN" can improve the ability to write active sentences in grade 2 students in learning Indonesian at SD Karunia Global School Jambi. The method used in this study is Research and Development (RnD) which is adapted from Sukmadinata with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement & Evaluate) research and development model. Flashcard "SPOKEN" is used in Indonesian for grade 2 in active sentence material. The design uses cards containing words equipped with elegance and images. Flashcards contain sentence elements, namely Subject, Predicate, Object, and Description (SPOK). A validation score of 93% was obtained from media experts with the category of "Very Valid". From material experts, a validation score of 80% was obtained with the criteria of "Valid". Meanwhile, for linguists, a validation score of 80% was obtained with the criterion of "Valid". From the results of this percentage, the flashcard learning media "SPOKEN" can be declared feasible to be tested on a limited basis. The results of the questionnaire obtained from student responses averaged 91% with the category "Very Interesting". Meanwhile, the results of the teacher response questionnaire received a percentage of 100% with the category "Very Valid". The average score obtained by students was 64.18 and the posttest score obtained was 85.39. The results of the T Test showed that the significance value (Sig) of the measurement data was 0.000 < 0.05.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a learning medium called Wayang Enceng Gondok (Water Hyacinth Puppets) to enhance the speaking skills of fifth-grade elementary school students through storytelling based on the intrinsic elements of narrative texts. The research employs the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) within a Research and Development (R&D) approach. In the analysis phase, it was found that students faced difficulties in expressing ideas orally and showed low participation in speaking activities. The design phase produced a culturally grounded and environmentally friendly media prototype. During development, the prototype underwent validation by content experts, media experts, and learning experts. Validation results indicated that the media met high-quality standards and were deemed feasible for classroom use. Limited trials showed an increase in student engagement and confidence in speaking. These findings suggest that Wayang Enceng Gondok serves as an effective alternative for Indonesian language instruction, particularly in enhancing oral communication skills. The media fosters an enjoyable and contextual learning environment and promotes active student participation. This study recommends the integration of local culture-based media as a creative and adaptive innovation for primary education.

Abstract

This study compares the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model and the Scramble learning model in enhancing fifth-grade students’ critical thinking skills in Integrated Science and Social Studies (IPAS) at elementary schools. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group was employed. The sample consisted of 20 students divided into two groups, each taught using the PBL or Scramble model. Data were collected through critical thinking skill tests, classroom observations, and documentation. The results indicate that the PBL model significantly improves students’ critical thinking skills compared to the Scramble model, supported by a Mann-Whitney U test with a significance value of 0.004 (<0.05). The test instrument demonstrated high validity and reliability, with a Cronbach’s Alpha of 0.895. Data analysis confirmed that student-centered learning emphasizing real-world problem solving, as in the PBL model, facilitates active engagement, reflective thinking, and collaboration, thus fostering critical thinking development effectively. In contrast, the Scramble model, which focuses on gamified group competition, is less effective in promoting higher-order cognitive processes. These findings recommend implementing Problem-Based Learning as an effective instructional strategy to develop critical thinking skills early on, particularly in integrated science and social studies education at the elementary level.

Abstract

Fraction comprehension represents a fundamental challenge in elementary mathematics education, with students frequently struggling to understand abstract concepts such as equivalence and representation. Traditional instructional methods often fail to provide adequate conceptual foundations, leading to procedural learning approaches prone to errors. This study developed INTAN (Interactive Numerical Training for Advancing Fraction), an innovative digital learning medium integrating Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic (VAK) learning approaches to improve fraction understanding among third-grade students. The research employed a Research and Development methodology following the Borg and Gall model through six stages: research and data collection, planning, product development, expert validation, revision, and field testing. Expert validation involved three specialists evaluating content, media, and language appropriateness using Likert-scale instruments. Field testing was conducted with 20 third-grade students at SD Karunia Global School Jambi using pre-test and post-test assessments aligned with Cambridge Curriculum standards. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, normality testing, and paired-samples t-tests. Expert validation demonstrated high feasibility with validity percentages of 82% (content), 88% (media), and 96% (language). Field testing revealed significant learning improvements, with mean scores increasing from 62.70 to 80.30 (p < 0.001). Performance variability decreased substantially, indicating particular benefits for struggling learners while maintaining high achievement among stronger students. INTAN effectively addresses persistent challenges in fraction education through multi-modal learning integration and adaptive gamification elements. The findings support theoretical frameworks emphasizing conceptual understanding before procedural skill development while demonstrating the potential of well-designed educational technology to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes in mathematics instruction.
