Abstract

The purpose of this research is to understand the planning, implementation, and evaluation of staffing strategies by startup companies to ensure their success. This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study method. Research data were obtained through observation at one small startup company, namely Investify, and in-depth interviews with 16 informants, including HR staff, HR Managers, and one CEO of a startup company. Data were coded using NVivo 12 software. The research findings reveal that staffing strategies involve several stages, including selecting job posting channels, candidate screening, and offering incentives to potential employees. The limitations lie in the research scope, focused only on startups in Jakarta, and potential bias in data interpretation. Using these research findings, practitioners can enhance workforce management effectiveness by reinforcing the company's brand through cultural communication, exploring diverse recruitment channels, and improving employee selection methods. The originality and value of this research lie in exploring workforce strategies in Jakarta's startup companies, providing insights into recruitment and selection processes that can enhance staffing strategies in startup companies.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of Job Insecurity, Professional Identity, and Well-being initiatives on Turnover Intention, with Job Engagement functioning as a mediating variable, within the context of State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) banks in Indonesia. Data were obtained through the administration of an online survey employing a 7-point Likert scale, and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) via LISREL 8.8 to test the proposed hypotheses. From the initial 463 collected responses, 265 valid responses were retained following a rigorous data screening and cleansing procedure. The empirical results indicate that Job Insecurity has a positive and significant direct effect on Turnover Intention, whereas Professional Identity and Well-being demonstrate positive and significant effects on Job Engagement. Moreover, Job Engagement fully mediates the relationship between Well-being and Turnover Intention, and partially mediates the effects of Job Insecurity and Professional Identity on Turnover Intention. These findings contribute to the growing body of knowledge in Human Resource Management by offering new insights into the mechanisms through which Job Insecurity, Professional Identity, and Well-being practices impact employee retention in the banking industry, with a particular focus on SOE institutions in emerging markets. The study underscores the strategic importance of fostering Job Engagement as a buffer against employees' intentions to leave the organization.

Abstract

Objective: A corporate startup is a business development initiative led by a company's employees, using the company's resources and with the support of top managers. It aims to address business problems that arise within the company. This study seeks to define a corporate startup, highlight its challenges, and identify areas for future research. Design/Methods/Approach: The method employed is a literature review based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) paradigm, with systematic searches from a database of high-quality scientific journals indexed by Scopus (Q1 and Q2). Selected publications relevant to the theme will be reviewed, and data will be summarized. Findings: This study finds three challenges that occur for corporate startups, namely collaboration development with internal and external corporate startups, finding competent mentors for corporate startups, and resource management competency. Further research can be continued by discussing three things, namely identifying companies that practice corporate entrepreneurship and capturing qualitative and quantitative organizational designs to enable corporate entrepreneurship, more research on developing countries, and the creation of standard standards regarding the evaluation of startup corporate models in various companies across industries and countries. Originality/Value: This research is the first study to describe the definition of corporate startups obtained from various high-quality journals (Scopus Q1 and Q2), which discusses various applications of corporate startups worldwide, the majority in the form of case study studies. With various views on the applications in the industry through Case Studies, this research also explained a review of the challenges and agenda of research in the future Corporate Startup, originating from various practices over the past 20 years on four different continents. Practical/Policy implication: Companies can implement corporate startups by utilizing a model derived from this paper. This involves embracing specific definitions, addressing challenges proactively, and outlining future research directions based on the findings of this study. Academics can also apply future research agendas to subsequent research to develop research related to Corporate Startup.

Abstract

The government implements social assistance programs for poor families and vulnerable groups. Therefore, the implementation is still facing various challenges. One of the toughest challenges is smoking behaviour. As the income has been increasing, the cigarette’s expense is also high. Cigarette’s expenditure substitutes other basic needs, such as nutritional foods, health, and education expenses. This study analyses smoking behaviour in social assistance recipients and its impact on quality of life. By using qualitative method, particularly the Rapid Assessment Procedure, data were obtained through in-depth interviews. The study uses purposive method to collect samples in East Java, both Malang City and Kediri Regency. Results show that all the informants have family members who were heavy smokers. The daily cigarette’s expenditure of social assistance’s recipients was significant compared to their daily expenses. It substitutes basic needs expenses and affects their quality of life specifically for nutritional, health, and child’s education status. Furthermore, due to nicotine addiction, it is very difficult for smokers to reduce the number of cigarette consumption, even though at difficult economies. Smoking behaviour also leads to family conflicts. It is important to regulate social assistance recipients who still disburse their budget for temptation goods such as cigarette. In addition, government must inform the negative impacts of smoking, as well as promote the healthy life behaviour using the existing program, Family Capacity Building Meeting/Pertemuan Peningkatan Kemampuan Keluarga (P2K2). As part of effective solutions to reduce smoking prevalence, unaffordable cigarette price is important due to lowering the consumption of addictive product.
