Abstract

This study explores how emotional intelligence and perceived organizational support influence job performance among government employees, focusing on the mediating role of job satisfaction. The research targets civil servants at the directorate general of customs and excise in Indonesia, where complex regulatory demands and public service expectations create high pressure. The objective is to examine direct and indirect effects of these factors on performance and satisfaction in a public sector context. A quantitative approach was used, collecting data from 249 respondents through cross-sectional surveys. Analysis employed partial least squares structural equation modeling with SmartPLS 4 software, applying bootstrapping and blindfolding procedures. Results show that emotional intelligence positively affects both job satisfaction and job performance directly. Perceived organizational support significantly improves job satisfaction but has no direct impact on job performance. Job satisfaction positively influences job performance and mediates the relationships between emotional intelligence, perceived organizational support, and job performance. These findings highlight job satisfaction as a key psychological mechanism linking individual and organizational factors to better employee outcomes in public institutions.

Abstract

The level of employees’ work engagement can affect an organization's resilience amid business competition. However, banking employees are often faced with rigid working hours that can affect the level of work engagement of employees. This study aims to determine the role of emotional intelligence and ethical leadership in the work engagement of banking employees. Furthermore, this study also investigates the mediating role of psychological capital because it still requires further research. The sample involved in the study was 206 employees of conventional commercial banks in Indonesia. The structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis results show that emotional intelligence, ethical leadership, and psychological capital can affect work engagement. On the other hand, psychological capital partially mediates the influence of emotional and ethical leadership on work engagement. Therefore, the result of this study can strengthen the job demands-resources theory. To increase work engagement, a deeper understanding of emotional intelligence, ethical leadership, and psychological capital can help the banking sector retain employees, improve employee and organizational performance, and maintain a competitive advantage amid intense competition between banks in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study empirically explores the improvement of job performance in the public sector through an approach that combines aspects of leadership with ethical leadership, a system aspect approach with a High-Performance Work System (HPWS), and an individual aspect approach with employee motivation within the scope of government financial institutions (GFI). Social Exchange Theory is used as a conceptual basis. Data were collected through an online questionnaire with a 7-point Likert scale measurement. The analysis was carried out using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) technique with SmartPLS 4 software to test the combination of multidimensional and unidimensional variables. The data obtained were 843 and after going through the screening and data cleaning process, 640 respondent responses were obtained for testing. The results of the study indicate that ethical leadership and HPWS have a positive and significant effect on employee motivation and job performance, and employee motivation has a positive and significant effect on job performance. In addition, employee motivation mediates positively and partially the relationship between ethical leadership and HPWS on job performance. This study provides theoretical contributions by combining ethical leadership and HPWS perspectives in one model that explains how these two factors affect job performance in the public sector through employee motivation mediation, while adding employee motivation as an intermediary mechanism to improve job performance in the public sector.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of green inclusive leadership (GIL) and green human resources management (GHRM) on green creativity (GC), with green voice behavior (GVB) as a mediating variable. The primary focus is to examine the extent to which GIL and GHRM can foster employees’ green creativity through GVB. This research employs a quantitative approach using a survey method distributed to employees in an automotive manufacturing company in Indonesia. The study was conducted on 389 employees of the one of automotive company market leader in Indonesia using a purposive sampling technique. Data processing and analysis are conducted using Covariance-Based Structural Equation Modelling (CB-SEM). The originality of this research lies in the integration of GIL and GHRM, variables that have not been extensively explored within the context of Indonesia’s automotive industry, with GVB as a mediator. The findings of this study indicate that GIL has a positive and significant effect on GC through the full mediation of GVB. GHRM has a direct positive and significant effect on GC, as well as an indirect effect through the mediation of GVB.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of grit and servant leadership on employee creativity among civil servants at the Ministry of Transportation, with work engagement serving as a mediating variable. Employee creativity is essential for organizational adaptation and maintaining competitive advantage. Grit, defined as perseverance and consistency, is conceptualized as a personal resource, while servant leadership, characterized by serving followers, represents a job resource. Work engagement, encompassing vigor, dedication, and absorption, functions as the central psychological mediator. The study aims to understand how these factors interact and contribute to enhancing employee creativity in the public sector. The quantitative analysis utilized 648 valid responses from civil servants and employed covariance-based structural equation modeling (CB-SEM). The results indicate that all direct relationships are significantly positive. Both grit and servant leadership exert significant positive effects on work engagement and employee creativity. Additionally, work engagement substantially enhances employee creativity. Importantly, Work Engagement is identified as a significant partial mediator of the effects of both grit and servant leadership on employee creativity. These findings demonstrate that grit and servant leadership jointly promote employee creativity, primarily through increased work engagement. Therefore, organizations are encouraged to foster employee perseverance and strengthen service-oriented leadership to enhance engagement and maximize creativity.

Abstract

Employee participation is a crucial aspect of company operations that can influence corporate policies and decisions. Trade unions, as organizations representing workers, play a vital role in voicing workers' concerns and mediating the relationship between employees and the company. This research aims to examine the impact of green human resource management and green servant leadership on green voice behavior, with job embeddedness as a mediator. Data were collected through questionnaires completed by 247 trade union members in Indonesia, including both leaders and members. The questionnaires utilized a 7-point Likert scale. A quantitative research approach was applied, employing Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) to analyze the relationships between variables. The results indicate that green human resource management and green servant leadership have a significant and positive impact on green voice behavior. Furthermore, job embeddedness mediates the relationship between green human resource management and green servant leadership on green voice behavior. Based on these findings, companies are encouraged to develop environmentally focused human resource policies and for leaders to adopt environmentally conscious principles to motivate employees to voice opinions, ideas, and suggestions centered on environmental sustainability.
