Abstract

A group of farmers in Sawah Baru Village work at the Kampar Gurami fish hatchery. The Pulai Jaya farmer group used natural techniques for gouramy spawning in the hatchery activities. Due to insufficient spawning eggs and intermittent seed production, this group has a challenge that results in very little revenue from its operations. The following goals of community service projects are : 1) Transfer technology for semi-natural gourami spawning to a farmer group in Pulai Jaya so they can produce more kampar gourami seeds. 2) Raise the revenue of the Pulai Jaya Farmers chairman and members and generate jobs, 3) In Sawah Baru Village, information agents and skills about the hatchery technology for semi-natural Kampar Gourami are being developed in order to be shared with other villages. The chairman and members of the Pulai Jaya farmer group have been motivated once again to carry out seeding activities as a result of this activity, according to the findings of observations made of them. They can also effectively absorb and put to use the provided information.

Abstract

To maintain growth and survival, Asian redtail catfish postlarvae require silkworms as live food. However, due to their extreme sensitivity to natural conditions, silkworms will be exceedingly scarce during the rainy season. This study aimed to evaluate fermented commercial feed enriched with curcuminas replacement of silkworms for the growth and survival of redtail catfish postlarvae. This study employed a complete design experiment consisting of six treatments: P1 (non-fermented commercial feed), P2 (no curcumin-enriched fermented commercial feed), P3 (curcumin-enriched fermented commercial feed at 0.35 g/kg), P4 (curcumin-enriched fermented commercial feed at 0.70 g/kg), P5 (curcumin-enriched fermented commercial feed at 1.05 g/kg), and P6 (silkworms). Each treatment was replicated four times. The Asian red tail catfish postlarvae, measuring 0.63 ± 0.05 mm in length, were cultivated at a density of 5 fish/L. Fish were raised for a period of thirty days. Growth in total weight, total length, specific weight rate, specific length rate, and survival rate of postlarvae were the parameters measured. The growth evaluation results indicate that substituting silkworm feed with fermented feed supplemented with curcumin at a concentration of 1.05 g/kg resulted in growth of 6.66% (length) and 14.29% (weight) lower than the silkworm treatment (P<0.01). Despite this decline, it represents the most effective outcome in this study, highlighting the potential of fermented feed where enrichment with curcumin as an alternative to silkworms for Asian redtail catfish larvae nutrition. In conclusion, curcumin-enriched fermented feed can promote the growth of Asian redtail catfish postlarvae. Keywords: curcumin, fermented feed, growth, silkworm   Abstrak Untuk mempertahankan pertumbuhan dan kelangsungan hidup, postlarva ikan baung membutuhkan cacing sutra sebagai makanan hidup.

Abstract

Asian redtail catfish (Hemibagrus nemurus) is one of the freshwater fish commodities with high economic value and already cultivated in Riau Province. Food that is given does not fully all the nutrition needed for larvae growth. One way to improve the feed quality is to enrich it with fish oil. This study aimed to determine the best oil sources in feed on the growth and survival rate of larvae. This research was conducted from August to September 2023 at the Fish Hatchery and Breeding Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, University of Riau. This study used the experimental method of Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 3 replicates. The treatments used were P1 (commercial feed,) P2 (shark oil 8%), P3 (pangasius catfish 8%), P4 (squid oil 8%), and P5(cod liver oil 8%). Larvae were reared for 40 days with a stocking density of 5 individuals/L. The result of the research showed that enrichment feed with different oil sources had a significant effect (P<0,05) on the growth of absolute weight, absolute length, specific growth rate, and survival rate. Enrichment of feed with squid oil results the higher growth than the other treatments with absolute weight of 0,71 g, absolute length of 3,06 cm, specific growth rate of 14,03%/day, and survival rate of 68,00%. Larvae’s response to feeding was very aggressive and nothing was left. Water quality parameters during the study were still in the good category for Asian redtail catfish with temperatures 28,7-30,1°C, pH 6,5-6,8 and dissolved oxygen 4,0-5,3 mg/l. Abstract

The growth and survival rate of the Asian redtail catfish (Hemibagrus nemurus) during larval stage are inconsistent due to low quality of available diets. One of the options to improve the larval diets is through enriching fermented fish with fish-derived oils. This study aimed to determine the optimal combination of pangasius waste oil and squid oil in fermented feed to improve larval growth performance and survival. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with six treatments and three replications was applied: P1 (Tubifex sp.), P2 (fermented feed + 12% pangasius waste oil), P3 (fermented feed + 12% squid oil), P4 (Fermented feed + pangasius waste oil + squid oil at a ratio of 1:1 [10 g pangasius waste oil + 10 g squid oil] with a dosage of 12%), P5 (Fermented feed + pangasius waste oil + squid oil at a ratio of 1:2 [10 g pangasius waste oil + 20 g squid oil] with a dosage of 12%), and P6 (Fermented feed + pangasius waste oil + squid oil at a ratio of 1:3 [10 g pangasius waste oil + 30 g squid oil] with a dosage of 12%). Larvae were reared for 40 days at a stocking density of 5 individuals L-1. Results demonstrated that feed enrichment significantly affected (p<0.05) absolute weight, absolute length, specific growth rate (SGR), and survival rate. The best performance was obtained with the 1:3 combination, yielding an absolute weight of 0.80 g, an absolute length of 3.45 cm, an SGR of 14.07%/day, and a survival rate of 75.11%. Larvae exhibited active feeding behavior with minimal feed residues.
