Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Abiotic stresses such as drought, salinity, extreme temperatures, and oxidative stress are major factors limiting the growth and productivity of rice plants. The development of CRISPR-Cas9-based genome editing technology provides a new, more precise approach to modifying genes that play a role in plants' adaptive responses to environmental stresses. This study aims to synthesize the development of genome editing research in rice plants, focusing on the identification of target genes, genome editing strategies, and their impact on increasing abiotic stress tolerance. The method used is a systematic literature review of research articles published in international scientific journals. A total of 31 articles were analyzed in the literature review process, and 22 articles that explicitly reported target genes and genome editing strategies were used in the main synthesis. The results of the analysis showed that most studies targeted regulatory genes that play a role in regulating stress responses, especially groups of transcription factors such as NAC, DREB, bZIP, MYB, and WRKY. In addition, several studies also targeted genes related to ion homeostasis, hormonal signaling pathways, secondary metabolism, and antioxidant systems. The most dominant genome editing strategy was gene knock-out through CRISPR-Cas9-based mutations, while several recent studies have begun to apply multiplex genome editing to target more than one gene simultaneously. Genome-edited rice plants generally show increased tolerance to various abiotic stresses through improved ion homeostasis, increased water use efficiency, cell membrane stability, and strengthened antioxidant systems. These findings indicate that CRISPR-Cas9 is a precision genome engineering approach with the potential to support the development of rice varieties that are more adaptive to environmental changes.

Abstract

Abstract

Germline pathogenic variants in BRCA1 and BRCA2 are key determinants of Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer (HBOC) and substantially increase breast cancer risk. At the molecular level, BRCA1/2 dysfunction impairs homologous recombination repair (HRR) of double-strand breaks (DSBs), promoting genomic instability and carcinogenesis. This systematic review synthesizes evidence on how BRCA1/2 variants inform early detection and clinical risk prediction/stratification in breast cancer. A PRISMA 2020-guided Systematic Literature Review was conducted using Scopus (2022–2026; MEDI/BIOC; English; Open Access; article type). Of 232 records identified, 21 articles met inclusion criteria and were synthesized narratively across five themes: molecular mechanisms, risk/penetrance, early detection, risk prediction/stratification, and clinical implications/targeted therapy. The evidence indicates that HRR deficiency shifts DNA repair toward more error-prone pathways, while carrier risk remains heterogeneous due to additional genetic modifiers and polygenic risk scores (PRS), resulting in meaningful variation in absolute risk. Early detection in BRCA carriers emphasizes genetic testing for carrier identification and intensified surveillance, with breast MRI as a key modality in high-risk settings. Contemporary risk models increasingly integrate BRCA status, PRS, and clinical factors, although population-specific calibration remains critical to avoid biased risk estimates. Clinically, DNA repair deficiency supports the use of PARP inhibitors (PARPi) via synthetic lethality, with resistance dynamics warranting consideration. Overall, BRCA-informed strategies provide an essential foundation for genetics-based prevention, screening, risk prediction, and targeted therapy in breast cancer.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of QRIS and e-wallet adoption on transaction efficiency and profitability of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Makassar City. Digital payment systems are increasingly recognized as key drivers of business transformation, yet many MSMEs still rely heavily on cash-based transactions. Using a quantitative survey method, data was collected from 150 MSME respondents across various sectors including trade, culinary, and services. The research employed multiple linear regression analysis and Sobel test to evaluate both direct and indirect effects. The results demonstrate that QRIS adoption significantly improves transaction efficiency by accelerating payment processes, reducing cash-handling costs, and minimizing recording errors. Similarly, e-wallet adoption has a positive effect on transaction efficiency by offering flexibility and convenience to customers, thereby strengthening MSME competitiveness. Transaction efficiency itself has the strongest effect on profitability, indicating that operational improvements directly translate into higher revenues and profit margins. In addition, both QRIS and e-wallet adoption exhibit direct positive effects on profitability, showing that digital payments not only enhance efficiency but also attract more customers and expand sales opportunities. Still, the analysis confirms that transaction efficiency mediates the relationship between adoption and profitability, suggesting that efficiency gains are a crucial mechanism through which digital payments improve financial outcomes. These findings highlight the strategic role of digital payments in enhancing MSME performance and provide valuable implications for policymakers, financial institutions, and service providers to accelerate financial inclusion and digital transformation among MSMEs in Indonesia.
