Abstract

This research is a classroom action research. The objective of this research is to investigate the process of improving students’ vocabulary mastery by using flash cards. The respondents  in this research was seventh grade students of MTs Nurul Islam. There are 30 students. In collecting data, this research used interviews, observation, and tests.  The researchers assessed four aspects of vocabulary in determining students’ scores.This research employed two cycles in this research and perform in four stage, namely; planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The results of the research showed that the implementation of flash cards can increase students' vocabulary. It can be seen from the development in the mean score of students:  for aspect meaning at pretest cycle 1 is 63 and in post test in cycle 2 is 78,  for spelling aspects at pretest cycle 1 is 58 and in post test in cycle 2 is 81,  for pronunciation aspects at pretest cycle 1 is 65 and in post test in cycle 2 is 83, and for aspects of word use at pretest cycle 1 is 71 and in post test in cycle 2 is 88.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the method of Think Pair Share (TPS) learning methods in improving writing skills in students, the research instruments used test questions. This study uses Action Research Design in 2 classes with the aim of improving the quality or problem solving in 2 groups carefully and observing the success rate of the action. The results of the study showed that the application of the Think Pair Share Learning (TPS) Method could improve students' writing skills, especially descriptive text. Before the implementation of the action, the score obtained was 43%, then in the first cycle it increased to 76%, so using the think pair share method improved the writing ability of students, especially descriptive text.

Abstract

Giving feedback to the students can help them to be better in their writing skill. Therefore, the teacher should give an alternative way in giving feedback to encourage students to master writing  skill. There are a lot of kinds of feedback, one of them is using minimal marking feedback. The main objective of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of minimal marking feedback towards students’ ability in writing descriptive text. It used quantitative method with quasi-experimental design to get the result. It was conducted in one of Junior High Schools in West Java with two classes as the samples. The process started by dividing the students into two categories, namely experimental group and control group. The group which was given treatment by minimal marking feedback in writing descriptive text was experimental one. The treatment was given in five meetings for experimental group. Meanwhile, the control group did not have that treatment for writing the descriptive text. After having the treatment for five meetings, it can be seen that there was significant improvement for those who are in experimental group. This was proven by the data calculated by IBM SPSS Statistics version 23. The result of the calculation by using T-Test showed that Sig.(2-tailed) is 0.000 which was lower than 0.05 meaning that the null hypothesis was rejected. Therefore, the treatment which was given to experiment group was significantly improve students’ ability in writing descriptive text.  Keywords:  Writing, Descriptive text, Minimal Marking Feedback

Abstract

This study is aimed at describing the implementation of scientific appproach through digital storytelling in teaching reading narrative text. The participants of the study were the tenth grade students in SMA Pasundan Cikalong.  Furthermore, this study employed case study as research design and conducted the classroom observation sheet to find out how the teacher implemented scientific approach in teaching reading narrative text. The finding of the study showed that the teacher implemented of scientific approach in teaching reading through several stages such as observing, questioning, experimenting, associating and communicating. In addition, during learning reading narrative text through digital storytelling, students become more engaged in the classroom as a result of their enjoyment. It may be stated that using a scientific approach through digital storytelling made it easier for students to understand the narrative text. Finally, the writer recommends that an English instructor use a scientific approach to teaching narrative text reading during the learning process. Keywords:  Scientific Approach, Digital Storytelling, Teaching Reading, Narrative Text

Abstract

English language lessons have become compulsory secondary schools. Especially, in era of globalization writing is very important The purpose of this study is to investigate students' difficulties in writing recount text through Project Based Learning. This study used descriptive qualitative research. The data was gathered through questionaire. The questionnaire were administered to eight grade students of SMPN 3 Batujajar in the academic year of 2019/2020. The questionnaires consist of 5 statements related to aspects of writing. The data was analyzed descriptively.The result showed that most of students got difficulties in writing related to five aspect of writing, such as content (23,33%), grammar or language use (56,67%), organization (36,67%), mechanic (43,33%), and vocabulary (26,67%).

Abstract

Instructional media is an important role for the continuity of the teaching and learning process. There are various types of instructional media that can be used by the teacher. In this opportunity, the researchers conducted the research dealth with the use of coursebook as instructional media in the classroom. This study aims at finding out teacher's perception  toward the use of  English textbooks in elementary school. This study used descriptive qualitative research design. The respondent of this study is an English teacher of elementary school in West Bandung. The researcher used revealed interview, observation, and document analysis in collecting data. Abstract

In general, students' difficulties in understanding of reading is in expressing the meaning and purpose of the reading. The researcher found these problem while conducting research at one of the Islamic Schools in class VIII  at SMP PLUS YPP DARUSSURUR CIMAHI. This study aims to improve the reading ability of students through English-language storybook media. This research used Classroom Action Research design which includes planning, action, observation, reflection or evaluation activities. The study was conducted SMP PLUS YPP DARUSSURUR CIMAHI. The sample of the research is class VIII C that contain of 26 students. The results showed that before treatment was given using the English-language storybook media, after reading comprehension learning using English-language book story at the first cycle the average value of reading comprehension skills of students increased  still in the medium category In cycle 1, the researcher discover that 70% or 18 out of 26 students got the score under KKM, and learning was done on the second cycle was found that 86.20% of the students or 25 out of 26 students got the score more than or equal to 70 related to the Minimum Mastery Criteria of reading comprehension ability of students experienced an increase in average value with a very high category. Keywords:   Reading, Media Story Books, CAR

Abstract

This study is aimed to know whether picture and picture technique can improve students’ writing skill. The method used was quantitative research with one group pre-test and post-test research design. The population was the 11th grade students at SMK Tunas Bangsa. The sample was one class of mechanical engineering major and consisted of 35 students.The result showed that null hypothesis of this study was rejected. It is proved by the data from T-test that shows the Sig. 2 tailed is 0.000. This value is less than 0.05. Null hypothesis, therefore, was rejected. Abstract

Writing skill is one of the skills that is difficult to learn because we have to know the correct sentence composition and also what we hear must be in accordance with what we write and therefore this skill is very important to learn. The objective of the research is to identify the sudents’ responses toward think talk write (TTW) strategy in teacihng writing skill. The research used descriptive qualitative design. The respondents of this research were eighth grade students of SMP Pasundan 1 Cimahi. The instrument of this research was questionnaire. The result of data analysis shows that students gave positive responses toward TTW strategy. Abstract

This study was focused on the violation based on Grice Maxim’s Cooperative Principle theory in the communication of characters in Bad Genius Movie. The purpose of this study is to analyze the violation of a sentence for every dialogue that is brought up by the main actor and the other person in the movie. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative and descriptive analysis method is used in analyzing the data. The data was collected from the conversation in the movie which contains conversational implicature in the character’s utterances. The authors analyzed how the dialogue refers to the violation maxim contained in the film "Bad Genius".
