Abstract

This paper reports the implementation of Genre Based Approach in teaching writing. The research was conducted at Junior High School in Bandung. The subjects of this research were the seventh grade students of junior high school. The data were obtained from observation. Then, the data was analyzed descriptively. The researchers used descriptive qualitative. The findings revealed that there are four stages in implementing Genre based Approach in teaching writing such as building knowlede, modelling, joint construction and individual construction. Abstract

The aim of the research is to investigate students’ perception of snowball throwing technique in teaching grammar. The research used qualitative descriptive research method and the participants of the research were second grade of SMPN 2 Padalarang. The data were obtained from questionnaire and interview. Questionnaire was used to obtain information about students' perception towards the implementation of snowball throwing in teaching grammar and interview was also used to get more specific information that cannot be accessed through questionnaire. From the questionnaire, the students answered strongly agree is 66,67%, agree 19,44% and disagree 13,89% that this technique is good to be implemented in teaching grammar. Therefore, the result shows that the implementation of snowball throwing technique in teaching grammar can help students to learn English grammar. Based on questionnaire and interview, they enjoyed learning with this technique and they showed some improvement on their participation of learning activity, their their creativity and their cooperative skill when learning with this technique.Keywords: Grammar, Snowball Throwing Technique , Students’ Perception.

Abstract

This research aims to find out types of thematic progression pattern used by students in writing descriptive text and to know the dominant thematic progression used in students’ writing descriptive text. This research employed a descriptive-qualitative research design. The respondents of the research were eleven grade students of SMKN 1 Cimahi. The data collection was documentation. The source of the data was descriptive texts written by students of Instrumentasi Otomatisasi Process-D. There were 9 texts written by the respondents. The collected data was analyzed by using the theory from Bloor & Bloor (2013) as the theoretical to analyze the data. The result of this research found that students used three types of Thematic Progression in students’ writing descriptive text, they are Constant Theme, Linear Theme, Split Rheme. Furthermore, Constant Theme is the most frequent themes used in students’ writing descriptive text.

Abstract

A Deixis Analysis of Song Lyrics in Queen “I Want to Break Free”. The aim of the research are to analyze the three types of deixis analysis using Yule (1996) theory and to identify the dominant deixis found in the lyrics. Researchers chose this song as the subject of analysis because of the song's popularity and it also consisted of deictic words and reference meanings. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The data this research are lyrics of “I want to break free” song by Queen. In addition, this song was classified into three types of deixis analysis based on their own criteria. The result of the research showed that there are three types of deixis found in the song. They are: Person deixis (94%), Spatial deixis: (3%), Temporal deixis: (3%). In addition, the highest percentage of all is Person deixis. It means that the use of personal deixis indicated the participant in this song.  Keywords:  Analysis, Deixis, Song, Lyrics

Abstract

ABSTRAKPenerapan e-learning merupakan salah satu inovasi teknologi pembelajaran yang mengintegrasikan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi dengan konten pelajaran. Meskipun e-learning bisa digunakan secara mandiri oleh siswa, namun eksistensi guru menjadi sangat berarti sebagai orang dewasa yang berfungsi memberi dukungan dan mendampingi siswa dalam proses pembelajaran. Oleh karena itu, model pembelajaran yang menggabungkan (blending) metode face to face learning dengan e-learning secara integratif dan sistematis akan membuat proses pembelajaran menjadi lebih bermakna. Kejadian virus Corona yang mewabah di Indonesia membuat situasi belajar diarahkan ke online learning.  Akan tetapi faktanya penggunaan teknologi masih sangat minim ditemukan di sekolah. Hal yang sama juga ditemukan di sekolah Mitra. MA Cahaya Harapan merupakan sekolah mitra untuk tempat workshop pengabdian ini, dimana kebanyakan guru belum dengan maksimal memanfaatkan penggunaan ICT ini pada proses pembelajaran di kelas. Tahap-tahapn pengabdian ini meliputi tahap persiapan, pelaksanaan, evaluasi dan pendampingan. Tujuan workshop  pendampingan dan pelatihan ini adalah meningkatkan kemampuan guru-guru  dalam pembelajaran blended learning berbasis LMS Moodle  di era post Covid-19. Peserta dalam PKM ini terdiri dari  25 orang dan dilaksanakan selama tiga hari dan dilanjutkan pendampingan selama dua pekan berturut-turut. Berdasarkan hasil angket kepuasaan sebesar 28% peningkatan kemampuan peserta dari sebelum pelatihan. Seluruh peserta terlihat sangat antusias dalam mengikuti program pelatihan. Hal ini bisa dilihat dari kehadiran seluruh peserta mulai dari awal kegiatan sampai akhir kegiatan. Peserta mampu membuat dan mendesain pembelajaran blended learning berbasis LMS Moodle.Kata Kunci : Blended Learning, LMS Moodle, Post Covid 19  ABSTRACTThe application of e-learning is one of the learning technology innovations that integrate information and communication technology with lesson content. Although e-learning can be used independently by students, the existence of teachers is very meaningful as adults who function to support and assist students in the learning process. Therefore, a learning model that combines (blending) the face to face learning method with e-learning in an integrative and systematic manner will make the learning process more meaningful. The outbreak of the Corona virus in Indonesia has directed the learning situation to online learning. However, the fact is that the use of technology is still very minimal in schools. The same thing was found in the Mitra school. MA Cahaya Harapan is a partner school for this PKM workshop, where most teachers have not maximally utilized the use of ICT in the learning process in the classroom. The stages of this workshop include the stages of preparation, implementation, evaluation and mentoring. The purpose of this mentoring and training workshop is to improve the abilities of teachers in Moodle LMS-based blended learning in the post-Covid-19 era. Participants in this PKM consisted of 25 people and was held for three days and continued with mentoring for two consecutive weeks. Based on the results of the satisfaction questionnaire, there was a 28% increase of the participants ability after joining the training. All participants seemed very enthusiastic in participating the training program. This can be seen from the attendance of all participants from the start of the activity to the end of the activity. Abstract

This research is intended to investigate the students’ attitudes toward the implementation of project-based learning. Project based learning is becoming increasingly popular in the pedagogical field. Qualitative research method was employed in this study. The respondents of this study were the fourth grade students who were taking coursebook evaluation subject.. The data of this study  was gathered by using questionnaire. Then, the collected data were analysed by qualitative description. Based on the questionnaire data, the result indicates that the respondents have a positive attitude towards the implementation of project based learning. It can be seen from three aspects: affective, behavioral, and cognitive aspects. On affective aspect, the respondents were interested to learn by using project based learning because of several benefits that they get after learning by using project based learning. In addition, on cognitive aspects, the findings showed that all respondents believe that project based learning is effective in teaching coursebok evaluation subject. The last, on the behavior aspect, the data showed that during the implementation of project based learning the respondents likes to share ideas and discuss in their group.

Abstract

ICT-based learning is very potential to make the learning process more effective. This training activity was followed by English teachers. The purpose of this activity is to improve teachers’ skills in integrating ICT in the learning process. The steps of activities carried out in community service activities include several stages such as a) the analysis stage, b) the design stage, c) the content development staged) the training stage and e) the evaluation stage. In the analysis stage, the team analyzed difficulties faced by the teacher in English subjects. Then, the results of this analysis stage were used as a reference at the design stage. At the Design stage, the team determined topics used in the training and designed content related to the use of  ICT-based Learning model. Then, in the content development stage, the team developed content in the form of Google classroom development integrated with  Canva and Kahoot. Then, at the implementation stage, training on ICT-based learning models is carried out. The results of this training indicate an increase in teacher competence in the ability to use ICT as a learning medium. Thus, the learning process becomes more effective and becomes more interesting.

Abstract

ABSTRAKMengenalkan bahasa Inggris seyogyanya perlu didukung oleh sarana dan prasarana yang memadai. Guru sebagai komponen pengelola proses pembelajaran perlu memahami kerangka berpikir anak agar pengelolaan pembelajaran dapat dilakukan dengan baik. Penggunaan media pembelajaran merupakan salah satu upaya bagi terciptanya pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang bermakna dan menyenangkan bagi anak usia dini. Sehingga, kegiatan pengabdian ini berupa Peningkatan Profesionalitas Guru Melalui Pelatihan Pemanfaatan Alat Permainan Edukatif (APE) sebagai Media Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Pada pengabdian ini, kami berupaya untuk berbagi pengetahuan dengan guru SMP di daerah Subang tentang jenis-jenis media pembelajaran bahasa inggris yang menarik bagi siswa dan cara pembuatan APE (Alat Permainan Edukatif) dari limbah plastik sehingga tidak saja dapat menumbuhkan kreatifitas guru SMP namun juga dapat menunjang program pemerintah dalam menangulangi limbah plastik terutama limbah plastik rumah tangga. Kegiatan pelatihan ini terdiri dari beberapa tahapan seperti : a) tahap analisis, b) tahap perancangan dan pengembangan konten dan c) tahap Pelaksanaan. Hasil dari pelatihan ini dapat dilihat peserta telihat sangat antusias dan dapat membuat APE sebagai media pembelajaran dengan baik. Hal ini membuktikan bahwa pada dasarnya guru mampu dan cukup kreatif dalam memanfaatkan barang bekas sebagai media pembelajaran.Kata Kunci : Alat Permainan Edukatif, media pembelajaran, Bahasa Inggris ABSTRACTIntroducing English should be supported by adequate facilities and infrastructure. The teacher as a component of the management of the learning process needs to understand the mindset of children so that learning management can be done well. The use of instructional media is an effort to create meaningful and enjoyable English learning for early childhood. Thus, this dedication activity in the form of Increasing Teacher Professionalism through Training in the Use of Educational Game Tools as an English Language Learning Media. Through the activity, we strive to share knowledge with junior high school teachers in the Subang area about the types of English learning media that are interesting for students and train English teachers how to create APE (Educational Game Tools) from plastic waste so that not only can foster the creativity of junior high school teachers but also can support government programs in tackling plastic waste, especially household plastic waste. This activity consists of several stages such as a) the analysis phase, b) the design and development stage of the content and c) the Implementation phase. The results of this training can be seen by participants who seem very enthusiastic and can make APE as a medium of learning well. This proves that basically the teacher is capable and quite creative in utilizing used goods as learning media.Keywords: Educational Game Tools, teaching media, English.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students' responses toward the implementation of Genre Based Approach through instagram posts in teaching wriitng. This study used descriptive qualitative methods. The participants of the study were 39 students of Vocational High School in Cimahi. The data were taken through questionnaire. The result of this study showed that students gave positive response toward the implementation of teaching writing using Genre Based Approach through instagram posts. The data revealed that all respondents (100%) motivated to get better grades. In addition, most of students (94.4%) stated that learning using Genre Based Approach are interesting and make them courageous in expressing their opinion. Furthermore, most of students (83.3%) also agreed that Genre Based Approach through instagram posts made it easier to understand the material.  Keywords:  Writing, Genre Based Approach, Instagram Posts

Abstract

This research was a pilot study which intended to develop Task based learning materials model for the Translation course. The study employed Research and Development. The research procedure of this study was adapted from Borg and Gall (1983). There are only three out of ten steps were employed: research and information collecting, planning, and developing preliminary form of product. The respondents of this research were two lecturers and third-semester students of the English education study program in a university in Cimahi. The data was taken from questionnaire and interviews. The research findings show that (1) from the analysis result, most of respondents wanted the learning materials that suits their need and interest. Thus, the pilot product covered eight topics such as translation process, a good translation, translation method, idiomatic translation, figurative language, simile and metaphor, direct technique and indirect technique; (2) the design used task-based learning model and was made based on three sessions namely pre-task, task cycle and language focus; (3) The translation material in pre activity consists of brainstorming and introducing the topics. While, translation materials in task cycle involves translating various sources such as newspaper, novel, poem, song lyric, film review and abstract. The last, teaching materials in language focus deal with grammar session. Since this research is pilot study, thus, the results need to be validated by expert judgement. Furthermore, it is recommended to apply the product in the real class.
