Abstract

Liberica coffee (Coffea liberica L.) has the advantage of growing on marginal land and showing resistance to pests and diseases. To support optimal growth, Liberica coffee seedlings require appropriate growing media and nutrient sources. Cow manure and rabbit urine, as organic waste, are expected to provide sufficient nutrients. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of cow manure and rabbit urine on the growth of Liberica coffee seedlings. The experiment was conducted from February to June 2023 at the Ciparanje Experimental Garden, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Padjadjaran, using a randomized block design (RBD) with nine treatments and three replications. Treatments consisted of (A) soil + 2 g urea, (B) soil + 25% rabbit urine, (C) soil + 50% rabbit urine, (D) soil:cow manure (1:1) + 25% rabbit urine, (E) soil:cow manure (1:1) + 50% rabbit urine, (F) soil:cow manure (2:1) + 25% rabbit urine, (G) soil:cow manure (2:1) + 50% rabbit urine, (H) soil:cow manure (3:1) + 25% rabbit urine, and (I) soil:cow manure (3:1) + 50% rabbit urine. The application of cow manure and rabbit urine increased leaf area, root length, and chlorophyll index of Liberica coffee seedlings. The best growth was achieved with the combination of soil:cow manure (3:1) and 25% rabbit urine, which also increased the levels of total N, P2O5, and K2O in the seedlings. Abstract

The utilization of home-yard space holds substantial potential to enhance household food security and economic resilience in rural areas. However, limited community knowledge of cultivation techniques often results in suboptimal use of available land. This community service program aims to improve the knowledge and skills of residents in Pasigaran Village through training on the cultivation of pagoda mustard (Brassica narinosa L.). The program was implemented through counseling sessions, technical demonstrations, and hands-on field practice involving 14 members of the Women Farmers Group (KWT). Evaluation was carried out using pre-test and post-test assessments to measure improvements in participants’ knowledge and interest. The results indicate significant increases across all measured variables. Knowledge of pest and disease control improved from 18.8% to 93.8%, understanding of cultivation prospects increased from 0% to 100%, and prior planting experience rose from 7.1% to 85.7%. Interest in pagoda mustard cultivation also increased from 71.4% to 100%. Participants were able to apply the cultivation techniques independently through the establishment of home-yard demonstration plots. This program is concluded to be effective in enhancing community capacity and promoting the utilization of home-yard space as a source of food and potential household income.

Abstract

Robusta coffee plantations in Indonesia still have low productivity levels compared to other countries such as Vietnam, namely, 0.8 tons/ha and 2.48 tons/ha. One of the factors determining plant productivity is the use of seeds. The seedling phase in coffee plants is an important phase that greatly determines the quality of future plant growth and production. Increasing the growth of the seedling phase is usually done by fulfilling nutrients through the application of inorganic fertilizers. Intensive application of inorganic fertilizers at high doses can accumulate fertilizer residues that harm the soil and the environment. Therefore, it is necessary to optimize the vegetative growth of Robusta coffee in the nursery phase by applying humic acid and Azospirillum sp. This research was conducted in June 2024 - September 2024 in the Ciparanje experimental field of Universitas Padjadjaran . The experimental design used was Randomized Group Design (RBD) with seven treatment combinations and repeated four times, each replicate consisting of three plants. Treatments included control, 40 mL/polybag Azospirillum, 20 mL/polybag Azospirillum, 10 mL/polybag humic acid, 5 mL/polybag humic acid, and a combination. The results showed that the combination of humic acid 10 mL/polybag + Azospirillum 40 mL/polybag had an effect on the increase in the number of leaves but did not show a significant impact on leaf area, chlorophyll index, stem diameter, and Azospirillum population.

Abstract

In recent years, productivity decline in arabica coffee has become a real issue in Indonesia. This decay has been brought about by various external and internal factors that are beyond human control. Various factors, including suboptimal cultivation practices, take part in this process. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of pruning combined with foliar fertilizer application (coconut water and sugarcane molasses) and 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) on the vegetative growth of arabica coffee plants during the production phase. The research was conducted at Ciparanje Experimental Field, Universitas Padjadjaran, using a randomized complete block design with seven treatments including a control (without pruning and foliar application), application of coconut water (75%, 750 mL L⁻¹), sugarcane molasses (2 mL L⁻¹), and BAP at 60 ppm, each applied with and without pruning, and four replications. In this research, the main parameters observed included the number and length of the lateral branches, leaf chlorophyll index, leaf area, canopy width, number of fruit clusters per branch and per tree, and coffee cherry fruit weight. It emerged that the combination of pruning and the use of sugarcane molasses at 2 ml/L significantly increased lateral branch formation, leaf area, and the number of fruit clusters per tree. The integration of pruning with foliar treatments effectively supported optimal growth of productive-phase arabica coffee plants.

Abstract

Local food security is a key element in creating sustainable food self-sufficiency at the community level. Pasigaran Village, Tanjungsari District, Sumedang Regency has agricultural potential that can be optimized through organic cultivation of kailan (Brassica oleracea var. alboglabra). This Community Service activity aims to improve farmers' knowledge in implementing organic farming systems to support healthy food diversification and reduce dependence on synthetic chemical inputs. The methods used include socialization, organic cultivation training, technical assistance, and evaluation of program effectiveness. The results of the activities show that the implementation of organic cultivation techniques on kailan can improve soil fertility, reduce the negative impact of using chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and produce healthier products with high economic value. Pre-test and post-test evaluations showed significant improvements in farmers' understanding and skills regarding organic farming. Thus, the program contributes to strengthening local food security, improving farmers' welfare, and developing a more sustainable agricultural system in Pasigaran Village.
