Abstract

The occurrence of ants in agricultural habitat is related to the availability of food resources as well as environmental condition for its nesting site. As predator, ants play an important role on controlling pest population in agricultural habitat. The objective of this research was to study the diversity of ants in pepper plantation. The research outcome can be used as basic information for cultivation management of pepper. Ecological observation was conducted in four regencies in Lampung Province with two selected plots on each regency. On each plot, ants were sampled using pitfall traps. In total, 28 ant species were recorded from pepper field in four regencies. Two species i.e. Anoplolepis gracilipes and Solenopsis geminataare well-known as tramp and invasive species. There is significantly different of ant species composition among regencies. The occurrence of ants in pepper plantationis probably affected by habitat condition surrounding pepper plantation and precipitation.

Abstract

Purple blotch, caused by Alternaria porri, affects leaves and tubers, leading to reduced yields. Traditionally, synthetic chemical fungicides were heavily relied upon for control. As an alternative, biocontrol agents like actinomycetes have gained attention. Some actinomycetes can suppress plant pathogens by producing antifungal compounds. This research aimed to investigate the efficacy of phyllosphere actinomycetes from Liliaceae plants as biocontrol agents against purple blotch disease on shallots in the greenhouse. Conducted at the IPB University Plant Bacteriology and Mycology Laboratory and the greenhouse at Bogor Agricultural Development Polytechnic, West Java, the research involved several stages, including pathogen identification, preparation of actinomyces inoculum and A. porri, and application of actinomycetes biocontrol agents to shallots in the greenhouse. A. porri isolates were obtained from shallot production centers in the Brebes area, Central Java. The use of the actinomycetes from the phyllosphere effectively suppressed purple blotch disease, with the lowest area under the disease development curve (AUDPC) recorded at 635.9% for the CFS28 isolate. Lower AUDPC values indicated slower disease progression. Actinomycetes biocontrol agents showed promising efficacy, with the CFS28 isolate achieving the highest efficacy percentage of 78.37%. Additionally, plant growth was significantly enhanced by actinomycete application, with tuber sizes ranging from 1.44 to 2.06 g, fresh weights from 17.63 to 24.72 g, and dry weights of shallot bulbs from 5.43 to 17.96 g. The incubation period for A. porri could be extended by actinomycetes, ranging from 5.43 to 8.5 days for purple blotch symptoms to manifest on shallots. The use of Actinomyces phyllosphere biocontrol agents holds promise for disease control on other plants’ leaves, contributing to environmentally friendly and sustainable agricultural practices.

Abstract

The availability of phosphorus (P) in ultisol acid soils presents a significant challenge due to its attachment to aluminum (Al) or iron (Fe) compounds. A potential solution to address this issue is the utilization of phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB). Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the potential of PSB originating from upland rice cultivation on ultisol soils. The bacterial isolates were obtained from soil samples taken from the rhizosphere area and root tissue of upland rice plants cultivated in Payabenua and Saing Villages, Bangka Regency. The pathogenicity testing encompassed hypersensitivity and hemolysis tests, while the P solubilization included the evaluation of the phosphate solubilizing index (PSI) and P dissolution. Subsequently, the selected isolates were subjected to phosphatase enzyme and organic acid content assessment. The results showed a total of 120 isolates, predominantly distributed in the Payabenua area and primarily consisting of endophytic bacteria. Among the six selected isolates, genus Burkholderia dominated four isolates, while the remaining isolates belonged to genus Serratia. Furthermore, in Burkholderia vietnamiensis, the solubility value of P in AlPO4 and Ca3(PO4)2 liquid media exhibited a range of 0.0013 to 0.0344% and 0.0008 to 0.1842%, respectively.

Abstract

Basal plate rot disease is one of the critical diseases in shallot plants. Control using synthetic chemical fungicides is still unable to overcome this problem, and it hurts the environment and reduces the population of essential microbes in plants. Endophytic actinomycetes have potential as biocontrol agents. They are reported to be able to inhibit the growth of pathogens, induce plant resistance, produce cell wall degrading enzymes, and promote growth. This research aims to obtain endophytic actinomycete isolates that have the potential to inhibit the growth of the fungus Fusarium. oxysporum f.sp. cepae causes of basal plate rot disease in shallot, and evaluate its inhibitory mechanism. Endophytic actinomycetes were isolated from tubers and roots of Liliaceae plants collected from shallots-production center area. The isolate obtained was tested for biosafety and continued with its inhibitory effectiveness against the fungus F. oxysporum f.sp. cepae in vitro, ability to induce resistance, and plant growth promotion test. The six best isolates were selected based on weighting using AHP and identified molecularly. The endophytic actinomycetes of Liliaceae plants can inhibit the growth of F. oxysporum f.sp. cepae up to 63.49% with an antibiosis mechanism, producing chitinase enzymes that cause lysis, induce resistance, and produce growth hormones such as IAA. Streptomyces sp. can inhibit the fungus F. oxysporum f.sp. cepae causes basal plate rot disease on shallot by producing antifungal compounds and chitinase enzymes, inducing resistance, and producing growth hormone.

Abstract

Abstract

ITS Online Publication (POMITS) is a publication journal for ITS undergraduate students. Many articles are published in it, and they are often needed as reference material for other student research. The search process is still based on title, abstract, author's name, and keywords. The data is still entered manually by the author. This process allows the selection of less appropriate keywords. So an effort is needed so that the choice of these keywords can be more precise and represent the article. The purpose of this research is to identify keywords in articles automatically. These keywords are distinguished into the software used, methods, and other representative keywords. With this identification, article searches can return more precise search results. This problem can be solved by using Named Entity Recognition (NER). However, the Indonesian language NER model owned by SpaCy is still not available, so it is necessary to develop the NER model. This study identifies each keyword annotation in POMITS content into metadata by detecting named entities in the form of software, methods, and representative keywords using the NER model. The NER annotation results are stored as triplet pairs in the Apache Jena Fuseki triple store. Furthermore, the triple store can answer searches about software, methods, and keywords. Based on the test results, the system successfully detects NER entities and saves annotations as triplet pairs on Apache Jena Fuseki. Keywords identification produce an average value of 84.76% precision and 63.59% recall.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of biological insecticides (Bacillus thuringiensis and Bacillus siamensis) and chemical insecticides (Carbofuran and Chlorantraniliprole) on the diversity, abundance, and community structure of arthropods in sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) plantations. The research compared species richness, diversity indices (Shannon-Wiener, Simpson, Evenness), and functional composition of arthropods across plots treated with biological insecticides, chemical insecticides, and untreated controls. Results showed that biological insecticides significantly maintained or enhanced species richness (65–67 species) and individual abundance (945–996 individuals) compared to chemical insecticides (44–47 species; 514–783 individuals). The highest Shannon-Wiener diversity indices were observed in biological treatments, indicating a more balanced and stable arthropod community. Non-metric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) analysis revealed that chemical insecticides caused significant shifts in arthropod community structure, whereas biological insecticides preserved community composition similar to the control. Functional group analysis indicated that biological insecticides supported decomposers and natural enemies (predators and parasitoids), while chemical insecticides reduced decomposer proportions and increased specific herbivores such as leafminers. These findings suggest that microbial-based insecticides are more environmentally friendly and effective in maintaining ecological balance within sugarcane agroecosystems. Therefore, integrating biological insecticides into integrated pest management strategies is recommended to promote sustainable and eco-friendly sugarcane cultivation.
