Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Menstruation can be one of the obstacles for athletes in each sports activity because female athletes who have periods can still take part in training and matches. This perspective can cause discrimination and a lack of understanding of the female athlete’s condition. Objective: This study aims to find out the experiences and perceptions of elite female athletes of how the menstrual cycle affects performance and achievement in sports competitions in West Java. Method: This study used a non-experimental quantitative approach. Data were collected through the survey method. Population in this study was female athletes who have experienced a menstrual cycle from various sports in West Java Province. The number of populations was 219 elite female athletes. The instrument in this study used a questionnaire obtained from a sample of female athletes. Results: The characteristics of respondents' periods showed that average athletes experienced an irregular menstrual cycle and felt pain with different pains. Even though athletes felt pain, they did not consume hormonal contraceptive pills. Most athletes were not affected by the menstrual cycle during training, although during competition, the performance of athletes was sometimes influenced by the menstrual cycle. Many athletes do not communicate about menstrual problems, and many coaches and teams do not change their training patterns during the menstrual cycle. Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the average performance and achievement of female athletes in West Java during the menstrual cycle are different or decreased. Implication: Female athlete training programs must be adjusted to the menstrual cycle to optimize their performance.

Abstract

Arm muscle strength is essential in basketball, especially in dribbling, shooting, and passing techniques. Therefore, to maintain good physical condition, it is necessary to also consider the recovery methods after training. The goal of this study is to determine the effect of cold water immersion on the arm muscle strength of the basketball team at SMA Negeri 3 of Malang City. This research utilizes an experimental study method. The design used in this research is the "One-group pretest-posttest design”. The results in the study showed that the women's basketball team received a significant value of 1.000 for the pull test and 0.802 for the push test, while the men's basketball team received a significant value of 0.042 for the pull test and 0.006 for the push test. Thus, it can be concluded that there is no effect of recovery using cold water immersion on the arm muscle strength of the female’s basketball team at SMA Negeri 3 of Malang City, but there is an effect of recovery using cold water immersion on the arm muscle strength of the male’s basketball team at SMA Negeri 3 of Malang City. This condition is caused by several factors, that is (1) hormonal differences between male and female athletes, (2) slower muscle adaptation in females, and (3) muscle size and composition.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Shred Injuries on leg muscle power in the SMA Negeri 8 Malang City basketball team. The method in this study used an experimental method, with the design “One-group pretest-posttest design”, which is a one-group research design that exists before (pretest) is given treatment and after (postest) is given treatment. The results in the study showed that the pretest female basketball team's leg muscle power test showed an average value of 41.16, while the posttest leg muscle power test results were 43.50. As well as a significant value of 0.014 for pretest and postest, it means that there is an effect of warm-up injury prevention using Shred Injuries on leg muscle power in the women's basketball team. While the results of research on the men's basketball team show that the pretest leg muscle power test shows that the average has a value of 57.00 for the pretest, while the postest leg muscle power test results are 59.66. As well as a significant value of 0.113 for pretest and postest, it means that there is no effect of warm-up injury prevention using Shred Injuries on leg muscle power in the men's basketball team. In this study it was found that there was no effect of Shred Injuries on the explosive power of the leg muscles in the women's basketball team, but there was an effect on the men's basketball team, so this research is a new finding.
