Abstract

Abstract

Halal certification is important for improving the competitiveness of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), especially in tourism destinations attracting Muslim travelers. However, many business owners in Bukit Lawang still have limited understanding of halal certification requirements and digital certification procedures. This community engagement program provided practical education on halal certification and introduced participants to digital-based certification services. Activities included presentations, interactive discussions, and question-and-answer sessions involving 32 tourism-based MSME owners in Bukit Lawang, North Sumatra, organized through international collaboration between the Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara, Indonesia, and Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. Participants showed strong enthusiasm, gaining better understanding of halal principles, certification procedures, and digital platforms, while recognizing the strategic value of halal certification in enhancing consumer confidence, expanding market opportunities, and improving competitiveness. A satisfaction survey completed by 15 of the 32 participants showed consistently high mean scores (3.73–4.00 on a 1–4 scale) across all evaluated aspects, and all respondents expressed interest in future similar programs. These findings suggest that community-based educational programs can support the sustainable development of tourism-based MSMEs in the digital era.

Abstract

The taḥżīr verses in the Quran are moral-spiritual warnings addressed to humans to avoid reprehensible behavior and its negative impacts. However, in the context of modern education, these warnings have not been fully internalized by students, so that moral degradation, such as intolerance, hedonistic behavior, and weak academic ethics, is still often found. This study aims to analyze the interpretation of the taḥżīr verses in Ibn ʻĀsyūr's al-Taḥrīr wa al-Tanwīr and explore their relevance for the formation of student character. The research method employs a qualitative approach, utilizing a literature study model, where primary data are derived from Ibn ʻĀsyūr's Tafsir, and secondary data are sourced from thematic tafsir literature, character education, and contemporary studies on student ethics. The results of the study indicate that the taḥżīr verses, according to Ibn ʻĀsyūr, are not only textual prohibitions, but also contain pedagogical dimensions that emphasize aspects of rationality, moral awareness, and social responsibility. The novelty of this study lies in its contribution to the thematic exegesis, specifically by highlighting the function of the taḥżīr verses not only as normative warnings but also as applicable moral education instruments for the younger generation. By interpreting taḥżīr as a preventive tool that forms spiritual, social, and intellectual vigilance, this study broadens the understanding that tafsir does not merely explain the meaning of verses but also offers a conceptual framework for strengthening character education. Its relevance is seen in the integration of the values of honesty, discipline, responsibility, critical thinking, and social concern in educational practices, so that this study makes a real contribution in addressing the moral crisis of the younger generation while enriching the perspective of tafsir as a foundation for Islamic character education that is adaptive to the challenges of the times.

Abstract

This article examines waqf from the perspective of Qur’anic exegesis and hadith ahkam to clarify its normative foundations and implications for contemporary Islamic law. Although the term waqf is not explicitly mentioned in the Qur’an, its core principles are embedded in verses concerning infaq, sadaqah, and the management of wealth for public benefit. This study employs a qualitative library research method using a descriptive-analytical approach to classical and contemporary Qur’anic commentaries, as well as authoritative collections of legal hadith. The findings indicate that the Qur’an provides the ethical and normative framework of waqf through the principle of sustainable charity, while hadith ahkam offer concrete legal legitimacy, particularly through the concept of sadaqah jariyah and the practice of waqf initiated by the Prophet’s companions. From the perspective of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, waqf functions as a strategic legal instrument to promote social justice, protect wealth, and ensure long-term public welfare. The study further argues that contextual interpretation of Qur’anic verses and hadith supports the development of contemporary waqf practices, including productive and cash waqf, as long as they remain consistent with sharia principles. Therefore, integrating Qur’anic exegesis and hadith ahkam is essential to strengthening the legitimacy and adaptability of waqf within modern Islamic legal frameworks.

Abstract

The growing circulation of mental-health content on social media has expanded access to psychological vocabulary while also increasing the possibility that individuals interpret ordinary distress as a clinical disorder without professional assessment. This article examines the conceptual relevance of qana’ah to mental-health self-diagnosis and specifies the safeguards required for a responsible Islamic response. The study uses a qualitative conceptual design that combines thematic Qur’anic exegesis with an integrative literature review. Six passages—Q. 9:59, 16:97, 20:131, 57:23, 65:3, and 49:6—were analyzed through al-Tabari, Ibn Kathir, Hamka, and M. Quraish Shihab, while peer-reviewed studies on qana’ah, mental-health literacy, misinformation, self-diagnosis, and help-seeking were coded comparatively. The analysis identifies qana’ah as an active disposition comprising gratitude, sufficiency, proportionate desire, continued effort, and reliance on God. Conceptually, these qualities may support emotional regulation and create an interpretive pause before distress is converted into a diagnostic identity. Qana’ah alone, however, does not establish diagnostic accuracy. Its protective relevance becomes more coherent when joined to tabayyun as information verification, mental-health literacy as symptom-context differentiation, and professional consultation as a clinical safeguard. The article therefore proposes qana’ah as a complementary spiritual framework rather than a substitute for psychological or psychiatric care. Because the model is conceptual, its proposed pathways require empirical testing across diverse Muslim populations and digital environments.
