Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur efektivitas dari penggunaan model Picture Word Inductive dalam memperkuat kemampuan menulis naratif teks siswa. Metode kuantitatif dengan disain kuasi eksperimen digunakan dalam studi ini. Sejumlah 60 siswa kelas X pada SMAN 10 Pandeglng, Banten, Indonesia, berpartisipasi sebagai sampel penelitian. Siswa ini terbagi dalam dua kelas yang langsung ditentukan oleh peneliti sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Dalam mengumpulkan data, post-test menulis esai naratif diberikan pada kedua kelompok kelas siswa tersebut setelah tindakan mengajar selesai. Dalam menganalisis data, rumus statistic t-test digunakan untuk menentukan perbedaan capaian siswa dalam test tersebut. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata yang dicapai siswa pada kelas eksperimen (78,4) lebih tinggi daripada capaian siswa pada kelas kontrol (54,2). Selanjutnya, efektifitas dari model Picture Word Inductive ini juga terlihat dari hasil perhitungan pada Independent -t-test dimana t-hitung lebih tinggi dari t-tabel (7.84>1.997) pada taraf signifikansi 5%. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa model Picture Word Inductive efektif digunakan dalam memperkuat kemampuan menulis naratif teks siswa kelas X. Hal ini berarti hipotesis nol ditolak, hipotesis alternatif diterima.

Abstract

This study investigated the use of Rosetta Stone application as a media in EFL students’ reading comprehension. This study implemented a quantitative approach in achieving the research objective which is finding out the effect size of Rosetta Stone application on students’ reading comprehension. The experimental design was carried out by using pre-test and post-test as the instruments to collect the data. The data from the pre-test and post-test were analyzed by using SPSS. The Cohens’d effect size in paired sample effect size determined the significant effect of the implementation of Rosetta Stone application on students’ reading comprehension. This study was conducted in SMPN 4 Tangerang Selatan. This research involved ten classes as the population, with a sample of class 8.1 that consisted of 42 EFL students. Based on the analysis of the data, the mean of the post-test is higher than the pre-test with a difference of 36.35 points. The effect size is considered high since 3.260 is higher than 1 (>1). Therefore, the use of Rosetta Stone application has a high effect on students’ reading comprehension. It is recommended for teachers especially EFL to implement Rosetta Stone application in students’ reading comprehension. Further studies are advised to investigate the students’ perception, as well as the advantages and limitations of Rosetta Stone application on students’ reading skills.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi karena masalah guru-guru SD banyak yang belum memahami tentang penulisan Artikel Ilmiah. Tujuan peneliti melakukan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis artikel bagi guru SD di daerah Cibaliung, Kabupaten Pandeglang. Masalah yang dihadapi atau dialami oleh guru SD tersebut yaitu Kurangnya pemahaman tentang penulisan Artikel Ilmiah. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat terdapat 3 kegiatan yaitu, (1) Memberikan pelatihan sebanyak 2 kali pertemuan yaitu melalui pelatihan secara luring dan daring, (2) Memberikan penugasan berupa membuat artikel ilmiah, serta (3) Melakukan review dari hasil penugasan dalam membuat artikel ilmiah guru SD di daerah Cibaliung, Kabupaten Pandeglang. Pengabdian masyarakat ini dilaksanakan dalam kurun waktu selama 4 kali pertemuan. Hasil dari kegiatan pengadian masyarakat yang dilakukan yaitu guru SD di daerah Cibaliung, Kab. Pandeglang mengalami suatu peningkatan terhadap kemampuan menulis Artikel Ilmiah setelah diadakannya pelatihan dan penugasan dari tim pengabdian masyarakat.

Abstract

Effective communication necessitates discussions about the topic at hand, highlighting the significance of speaking skills. Proficiency in speaking significantly impacts one's character, requiring consistent practice to refine sentence structure and pronunciation. Leveraging practice methods, such as utilizing media like animation series, contributes significantly to honing speaking abilities. While grammar is often overlooked in everyday conversation, the essence lies in mutual understanding during dialogues. Vocabulary acquisition, mainly through regular reading, notably aids language fluency, especially in foreign languages. A teacher's role extends beyond content delivery to understanding the learning context and methods, encouraging students to apply what they've learned. Fostering self-confidence in students, particularly during the transition from junior to senior high school, is pivotal in teaching language skills. Integrating reading and listening into speaking lessons enriches vocabulary and enhances comprehension skills indispensable for effective communication. This study demonstrates the importance of effective communication as individuals convey information or messages during conversations. The focus is on emphasizing the necessity for teachers to prioritize enhancing speaking skills among students in classrooms. Improving students' proficiency in foreign languages is crucial, and it is intertwined with the utilization of appropriate media.

Abstract

A Literary works and social realities that occur in the social environment of society are inseparably linked. The conflicts raised can be in the form of problems experienced in everyday life. One of the conflicts that often occurs and is discussed in a literary work is about feminism. This research aims to find the image of women in Siti Raham contained in the novel Buya Hamka by A. Faudi. The figure of Siti Raham who is the wife of Buya Hamka is the subject of discussion in this study. The research method used is a qualitative method that is descriptive of the observed object. The data source used in this research is the novel Buya Hamka by A. Faudi. The feminist approach is used to analyze the image of female characters based on the physical, psychological, and social aspects of the story. The results of this research show that from various categories, it can be concluded that Siti Raham is a great woman and is successful as a child, wife, mother and in the social environment of society. She was able to raise 10 children, even when her husband was away from them.

Abstract

Abstract The purpose of this research is to explore the effectiveness of scrabble game in students’ reading comprehension achievement. One class of 7th graders composing 27 students of MTs Jami’iyyah, Pondok Aren, South Tangerang, participated In this as samples. This research applied quantitative method with pre-experimental design of one group pretest and posttest. The instruments used in collecting the data were pretest and posttest. There were 25 multiple choice questions given in each test to be done by the students in 50 minutes. A quantitative analysis was firstly taken before computing the data by using statistical analysis of paired sample t-test. The calculation showed that the average score of students’ reading comprehension post-test was higher (83.77) than in the pretest (56.22). Besides, the statistical analysis indicated that the significant value of 0.01 < a (0.05), thus, Ha was accepted. Referring to the analysis results above, this research concluded that scrabble game was effective media to be used in improving reading comprehension skill of the students. Abstract

This research was aimed to investigate whether or not Marathon technique gave impact on students’ descriptive writing improvement. This research applied quantitative method with quasi-experimental research design. A total of 40 students of grade 9 of MTs Al-Islamiyah, Ciledug, participated as the samples in which 20 students were in the experimental class and the other 20 in controlled class. Both pretest and posttest were used as the instruments to collect the data. These data were analyzed statistically by using paired-sample t-test. The results of this statistical calculation showed that (t0) > than (tt) = 2.81 > 1.76 in the significance level of 5%. This explained that there was significant difference gained by groups of students taught with and without using Marathon technique. Therefore, this research concluded that Marathon technique affected students’ descriptive text writing achievement.

Abstract

Research on the influence of problem-based learning methods really needs to be carried out. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the problem-based learning (PBL) method in improving students' writing skills. This research uses quantitative methods. This research was conducted with a quasi-experimental design involving two groups of students, one group received conventional teaching without treatment, while the other group received treatment in the form of PBL teaching. Data was collected through pre-test and post-test writing assessments, and the results were analyzed using a t-test. The research results showed that students who received teaching using the PBL method showed significant improvements in their writing skills compared to those who received conventional learning. This research concludes that PBL can be an effective method for improving students' writing skills by providing opportunities for real-world problem-solving, collaborative learning, and revision based on feedback.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to assess how effective RUN BTS videos on the Weverse app work as a substitute for vocabulary enrichment activities. This study used an experimental pre-test-post-test control group design using a quantitative methodology. One senior high school class from Jakarta, Indonesia served as the research sample. For four weeks, the experimental class received treatment by watching two RUN BTS episodes on the Weverse app. Pre-test and post-tests totalling twenty questions were used to gather data. This is predicated on the pre-test mean score of sixty and the post-test mean score of seventy-nine points. Observing RUN BTS on Weverse has an impact on learning outcomes, based on the results of the rise in learning outcomes

Abstract

The aim of this study is to improve the learning of English with a speech variable using the TED Talks Application. The quantitative approach is the technique used in this research. The design used in this quantitative study is a quasi-experimental design, which utilizes a pre-test and post-test design culture. The population in this study was 20 grade XII students of SMK Muhammadiyah Parung, Bogor in the academic year 2020/2021. Pre-test and post-test data were analyzed using SPSS 25 version. The results of the study showed that the students pre-test score was 64.70 and after treatment, the students post-test score was 87.60. The results of this study also clarified that the t-test in the paired sample test in which tobtained was 28.56 and the crucial tvalue at significance level (p)=0.05 was 2.093, which means that t-test in which the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) accepted. The writer finding might summarize that the student’s post-test results are higher than the student’s pre-test results. In other words, the use of TED Talks is useful in the 12th grade of vocational high school for students who speak English.
