Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of the Connected Mathematics Project (CMP) learning model in improving students' mathematical communication skills at MA Madarijul Huda Pati. Because of 46.15% of students demonstrating very low skills and 23.07% falling into the low category, the study aims to: (1) analyze the impact of CMP on mathematical communication skills, (2) compare skills among students with high, moderate, and low self esteem, and (3) explore the interaction between CMP and self esteem. Employing a quantitative quasi-experimental approach, the study involves class XI students selected through cluster random sampling. Results indicate a significant improvement in mathematical communication skills through CMP. Students with high self esteem outperform those with moderate self esteem, while those with moderate self esteem fare better than those with low self esteem. Additionally, students with high self esteem exhibit superior mathematical communication skills compared to students with low self esteem. Notably, an interaction between the learning model and self esteem was observed, influencing mathematical communication skills.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi guru matematika SMP di Kota Magelang dalam mengembangkan instrumen asesmen berbasis deep learning dengan dukungan Artificial Intelligence (AI). Kegiatan dilaksanakan melalui pelatihan dan pendampingan dengan pola in-on-in, yang mencakup pembekalan teori, praktik pengembangan instrumen asesmen digital, serta refleksi hasil pelaksanaan. Materi pelatihan meliputi konsep dasar deep learning dalam asesmen matematika, pengembangan model asesmen, dan pemanfaatan media digital berbasis AI. Hasil evaluasi kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan kompetensi guru yang signifikan, ditandai dengan kenaikan persentase jawaban benar peserta dari 60,45% pada pre-test menjadi 84,29% pada post-test, yang diperkuat oleh data angket, hasil penugasan, dan refleksi peserta yang menunjukkan kemampuan guru dalam merancang instrumen asesmen yang interaktif, adaptif, dan selaras dengan Kurikulum Merdeka. Program ini diharapkan dapat memperkuat kapasitas guru dalam mewujudkan pembelajaran yang bermakna dan berpusat pada siswa.

Abstract

The ability to think critically is a vital skill in mathematics education. However, abstract and insufficiently contextualized instruction, especially in circular solid such as cylinders, hinders its optimal development. Integrating local cultural contexts through an ethnomathematics approach into game-based learning media offers a potential solution. This research intends to generate a learning game integrated within Roblox, namely Geoarcala, that integrates the ethnomathematics of temples in Magelang, and to evaluate its validity, practicality, and effectiveness in enhancing students’ critical thinking ability. A Research and Development (R&D) design incorporating the ADDIE framework was utilized. The participants included 23 ninth-grade students from class IX A at SMP Negeri 1 Salaman. Data collection methods comprised interviews, questionnaires, and tests. The validation results indicated that the media was valid (85.16% by content experts and 80.42% by media experts). The practicality test showed very practical results based on student (83.85%) and teacher (85%) responses. A paired-samples t-test revealed significant media effectiveness (t=10.68 and df = 22, p = 0.001, Cohen's d = 2.227). The average N-Gain score of 0.30 shows a moderate degree of improvement. These result indicate that the Geoarcala game is valid, highly practical, and shows moderate potential for enhancing students’ critical thinking ability.

Abstract

Understanding mathematical concepts is essential for high school students, as it enables them to apply mathematics in real-life contexts, including financial management. This study was conducted to examine the classical mastery and the effect of Game-Based Learning (GBL) assisted by Cashflow MathPoly integrated with financial literacy on students’ mathematical conceptual understanding at SMA Negeri 1 Grabag. A quantitative approach was applied using a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group. The participants consisted of 60 students, with class XI F-1 as the experimental group (28 students) and class XI F-2 as the control group (32 students). The research instruments included a mathematical conceptual understanding test (pretest and posttest), interview guidelines, and observation sheets. Data analysis was carried out by examining the equivalence of students’ initial abilities using an Independent Samples t-test. The findings confirmed that both classes had comparable initial abilities. The experimental class achieved a learning mastery level of 80.29%, while the control class reached only 50%. The classical mastery analysis further showed that the experimental class fulfilled the criteria of classical achievement (Zcount =1.746 > Ztable=1.645), while the control class did not achieve classical achievement (Zcount =-3.265 < Ztable=1.645). Moreover, the Independent Samples t-test result that (tcount =4.25 > ttable=2.00172), demonstrated that students who learned through the GBL model possessed higher mathematical conceptual understanding than those who were taught using direct instruction.
