Abstract

The Qur'an learning process at Darul Huffadh Islamic Boarding School, Gunung Tua, Padang Bolak, North Padang Lawas Regency, still uses traditional teaching methods that overlook students’ varying abilities, particularly in tajwid and makhraj. This lack of adaptive instruction lowers reading quality and student motivation. This study used Classroom Action Research (CAR) over two cycles, involving planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through observation, tests, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that implementing the Ability Grouping method significantly improved students’ Qur'an reading skills, especially in tajwid and pronunciation accuracy. Students in homogeneous groups felt more confident and motivated, as the instruction matched their learning needs. Thus, Ability Grouping proved to be an effective and relevant method for Qur'an learning in the pesantren setting.

Abstract

Learning Akidah Akhlak in Phase E at MAN 2 Padang Lawas faces challenges due to the lack of interactive learning media and students’ weak critical thinking skills. To address these issues, this study developed an e-learning medium based on Google Sites to support active and independent learning. The objective of the research is to create a learning medium that is valid, practical, and effective in enhancing students’ critical thinking abilities. The method used is Research and Development (R&D) employing the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The research subjects were students of class X-1 at MAN 2 Padang Lawas. Data were collected through questionnaires, tests, expert validation, and documentation. The results indicate that the developed learning media is highly valid (average validation score above 89%), highly practical (88.17%), and effective in improving student learning outcomes (N-Gain score of 0.48; t-test shows significant improvement). This media is therefore suitable for use in Akidah Akhlak learning.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (IRE) learning at Majelis Taklim Ruhul Islam in Barumun is still dominated by lecture methods and textbook usage, making it less engaging and less effective in enhancing participants’ understanding—especially of worship-related material that is both conceptual and practical. Low participant involvement and the limited use of educational technology present major challenges, particularly for digital native learners who are more interested in interactive media. This study aims to develop a Quizizz-based digital learning media for worship material in IRE at SMK Negeri 1 Barumun, and to examine its validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The research employed the ADDIE development model with IRE teachers and tenth-grade students as subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, tests, and expert validation. Results showed the media’s validity at 95.48% (highly valid), practicality at 95.50% (teachers) and 82.45% (students), and effectiveness with an N-Gain of 63.96 (moderate category). The media effectively improves understanding and participation, and aligns with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

This article examines the paradigm of scientific integration in Islamic religious universities in Sumatra through a comparative and contextual approach. Although studies on scientific integration have grown rapidly, most remain confined to normative discussions and have not sufficiently examined how integration is constructed, interpreted, and implemented within diverse institutional contexts. Using a quasi-qualitative approach based on in-depth interviews, academic observations, document analysis, and focus group discussions (FGDs), this study explores the dynamics of scientific integration in three State Islamic Universities: UIN North Sumatra, UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh, and UIN Raden Fatah Palembang. The findings show that scientific integration is not understood as a singular unification of religious and scientific disciplines, but as a multi-layered epistemological process encompassing philosophical orientations, methodological alignments, and academic practices. Variations in integration paradigms emerge according to each institution’s vision, historical trajectory, and academic strategy, shaping different models of curriculum design, research orientation, and academic culture. These results indicate that the paradigm of scientific integration in Sumatra develops in a dynamic and context-dependent pattern rather than as a standardized institutional model. Beyond the local context, this study offers a reflective analytical framework for understanding scientific integration as a living epistemological process, contributing to broader discussions on Islamic higher education and contemporary global epistemological challenges.
