Abstract

This study focuses on income disparity and economic growth in the Yogyakarta Special Region. The area's slow economic expansion contributes to persistent income inequality. Using variables such as population, economic growth, district/city minimum wage, inflation, open unemployment rate, and income inequality, this study investigates the relationship between economic growth and income disparity. A quantitative approach is employed using panel data regression and Seemingly Unrelated Regression (SUR) on secondary data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). The results show that district minimum wage and open unemployment rate significantly and positively affect income inequality, while inflation, economic growth, and population size have no significant effect. These findings imply that inclusive development policies, equitable job creation, and wage regulations that consider the informal sector are essential for reducing regional income disparities in Yogyakarta.

Abstract

The development of educational establishments in Yogyakarta is going very rapidly. The existence of Campus 4 of Ahmad Dahlan University has led to the development of economic activities around the area. Therefore, high activity and rapid development around the area have an impact on increasing land prices. This increase in land prices is accompanied by land conversion from agricultural, plantation, moorland, and vacant land to built-up land, which indirectly affects the physical development of the area. This research is a quantitative descriptive study which explains the relationship between land area, distance of land to campus, distance of land to main road, and road width in front of land to land prices in the area around Campus 4 of Ahmad Dahlan University. The research data were collected through interview methods, field observations, documentation, and literature study. The analysis tool used is multiple regression analysis. The results of this study indicate that the distance from the land to the campus and the width of the road in front of the land have an effect on land prices. Meanwhile, the land area and the distance from the land to the main road have no effect on land prices.

Abstract

During the period of 2014-2022, the province of Papua experienced a Human Development Index (HDI) level below the national average, and the rankings of HDI indicators also tended to be lower compared to other provinces. This research aims to explore the impact of HDI indicators on the HDI levels in various districts/cities in the province of Papua. The research approach used is a correlational method with a focus on understanding the correlation between dependent and independent variables. Regression analysis techniques were applied to the districts/cities in the province of Papua over the period of 2014-2022. The research findings reveal that the special autonomy fund indicator has a negative and non-significant effect on the Human Development Index in the province of Papua during that period. Meanwhile, the indicators of per capita expenditure, life expectancy at birth, expected years of schooling, and average years of schooling positively and significantly influence the improvement of the Human Development Index in the province of Papua during the same period.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relevance of the export-led growth model in eight countries in the ASEAN region. Panel data analysis was used to examine the corellation between the variables of export growth and gross domestic product, supported by control variables such as exchange rates, consumer price index, real interest rates, and foreign exchange reserves. The Fixed Effect Model was selected as the best analytical model for this study. The data used in this research was sourced from the World Bank, utilizing data from 8 countries: Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, and Timor-Leste, covering the period from 2014 to 2023. The study results support the ELG hypothesis, meaning that exports have a significant positive impact on economic growth in the 8 ASEAN countries. Exchange rates and foreign exchange reserves also play a significant positive role in driving GDP. Meanwhile, the CPI does not have a significant impact on GDP. On the other hand, real interest rates have a significant negative effect on GDP. The implications of this study highlight the importance of product diversification and value addition to enhance the competitiveness of export products for the eight ASEAN countries, thereby reducing dependence on oil and gas commodities and raw materials. Additionally, the implementation of responsive monetary policies to global market dynamics is necessary to maintain economic stability and achieve sustainable growth.

Abstract

Income inequality remains a major challenge for regional economic development, particularly in Banten Province, which is characterized by pronounced regional disparities driven by urbanization and economic agglomeration. This phenomenon is influenced by various economic and social factors that have not yet been comprehensively examined within the regional context of Banten.  Research on income inequality in Banten is therefore essential, as rapid economic growth concentrated in industrial areas has not necessarily translated into an equitable distribution of welfare across regencies and cities. This study aims to analyze the effects of economic growth, the Human Development Index (HDI), minimum wage, number of firms, and poverty rate on income inequality in eight regencies and cities in Banten Province over the period 2011–2023. The study employs a quantitative approach using panel data regression, combining both time-series and cross-sectional data. The results indicate that HDI has a positive and statistically significant effect on income inequality. In contrast, minimum wage, number of firms, and poverty rate exhibit significant negative effects on income inequality, while economic growth does not have a statistically significant impact. These findings are expected to provide valuable insights for local governments in designing policies that promote more equitable economic development and reduce income inequality in Banten Province.
