Abstract

This paper discusses the moral messages implied in the Imam Ali's poems. As stated by some experts, poetry is a set of signs that need to be sought for its meaning and significance. This set of signs is mostly difficult to be realized directly by ordinary people. In consequence, Imam Ali's poems need to be explored by semiotic analysis so that the meanings implied in these poems can be elaborated in detail, and hopefully, it can be well understood by the public. The method used is descriptive-analytical framework that emphasizes systematic interpretation from of the individual point of view or population being studied to generate new concepts. Based on the result, it is found that Imam Ali's poems imply many valuable and important moral messages that were in line with Islamic teachings and they are very important to be known, studied, and used as the guidelines in everyday life. The moral messages implied in these poems they are about the primacy of seeking knowledge and science, the primacy of reasoning, the primacy of silence, keeping away from greedy, and patient with all kinds of insult.

Abstract

This paper aims to explain the concept of Tarkib Isnadi in Arabic grammar and describe the equivalent concept and its components in Indonesian grammar. In the realm of Arabic grammar, Tarkib Isnadi is a core component in the structure of clauses or sentences in Arabic. A good understanding of Tarkib Isnadi in Arabic and its equivalent in Indonesian will make it easier for Arabic learners (L2) who come from native Indonesian speakers (L1) to identify clause and sentence structures in various Arabic discourses. The methods used in data analysis in this study are distribution and identity-referential methods. Based on observations, it is found that the concept of Tarkib Isnadi in Arabic has a concept equivalent to a clause in Indonesian because both have the core constituents or pillars of the sentence. On the other hand, there are also some differences in the concept of Tarkib Isnadi in Arabic with the concept of clauses in Indonesian. The difference mainly lies in terms of the formation of the concept and the filling components of their syntactic functions.

Abstract

In the last decade, many studies on politeness in Arabic have been published on various platforms, but until now the results have not been systematically compiled and used as a module or teaching material. In addition, Arabic pragmatics teaching materials, especially regarding politeness principles and strategies, currently do not refer much to the results of the latest research, even though the results of these studies can be used as a basis in the context of applying, testing, or even developing a theoretical framework on Arabic politeness. Therefore, this study aims to design Arabic pragmatics learning modules, especially concerning politeness in Arabic by utilizing the results of these studies. It is assumed that the development of research-based learning modules can enrich learning materials with the latest findings. By utilizing content and thematic analysis, the research results are analyzed systematically and then designed as a learning module based on the lesson plan that has been set. The result shows a bunch of research about politeness in Arabic published in scientific journals and digital repositories. Almost all research refers to the remarkable theoretical framework of politeness principles proposed by Leech (1983), as well as politeness strategies proposed by Brown & Levinson (1987). Although both are relatively old-school frameworks, they still seem relevant to been implemented by some researchers to date. Furthermore, a systematic study of the results of these studies was then composed and designed into an Arabic pragmatic learning module, especially on the topic of linguistic politeness principles and strategies.

Abstract

Family language policy encompasses various aspects, such as identity, cultural heritage, communication, education, and social integration within a family or community. Previous research has primarily focused on the use and preservation of native languages within multilingual societies, leaving a gap in understanding the relationship between family language policies and the acquisition of foreign languages in a familial setting. Consequently, this study presents a conceptual approach that explores key concepts and variables relevant to the family language policy approach, specifically regarding the acquisition of Arabic by the Indonesian Muslim community. By analyzing the connection between the family language policy approach and variables related to foreign language acquisition, we hypothesized that the learning or acquisition of Arabic among Indonesian Muslims can be influenced by the language policy implemented within their families. Muslim parents play a crucial role in this process, both ideologically and practically, by providing an optimal learning environment and motivation for their children. As the family language policy involves decisions and practices governing language use and learning within the family context, it encompasses Muslim parents' choices regarding the Arabic language used at home, its application in specific activities, and their support for their children’s learning.

Abstract

In this paper, we argue that, as a powerful artificial intelligence (AI) language model, ChatGPT can be used to provide sufficient responses to questions regarding controversial Arab–Islamic terms. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the responses generated by ChatGPT regarding these terms, which are often debated by the community. By relying on a combination of content and sentiment analysis, we analyzed ChatGPT's response through the specific prompts submitted. The result shows that ChatGPT can provide sufficient and promising explanations regarding two concepts that are still considered debatable today, Jihad and Bid'ah in particular. Furthermore, the explanations generated from this AI language model are relatively balanced and moderate because they present multiperspective answers. In its conclusion part of each response, ChatGPT always warns that these terms described are labeled "complex" and "controversial" meaning there is no sentiment in favor of one particular view. This research implies that ChatGPT can be used to help us answer various questions or at least provide an understanding at the conceptual level, even though it is related to debatable matters.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to present a new concept in viewing the Discord application by comparing the concept of the language environment with the use of Discord as a language learning medium. This research used exploratory qualitative research using a grounded theory approach and in-depth studies regarding the concepts and theories needed. Data are collected by direct observation on one of the Arabic learning servers, namely the Learn Arabic server, and questionnaires. The results of the data analysis showed that the activities on the Discord server indicate new possibilities in using the Discord application as a digital Arabic linguistic environment. The practical implication of this research is to raise awareness among educators and Arabic students about the value of the Discord application as a language learning medium.
