Abstract

Efforts to increase fish farming productivity, motivating farmers to enhance the fish farming population in Pulau Semambu Village. Inderalaya Utara Village, Ogan Ilir, can be implemented through village lecture provision, training, and demonstration of artificial feed production based on maggots with the addition of water spinach leaf extract. The objective of this activity is to enhance the growth and immune system of fish livestock.Based on that reasoning, the framework of thought that will be pursued through the model approach (1) The approach is carried out through direct observation of the community while simultaneously mapping the latest fish farms in Pulau Semambu Village, Inderalaya Utara, Ogan Ilir.(2) Assistance, this activity is carried out through village lectures that can be realized in the form of outreach to fish farmers about improving fish farming management and providing support in motivating fish farmers to start implementing the concept of an intensive maintenance system in fish farming in maintenance ponds that meet health standards. (3) Direct demonstration (practice) of making artificial feed based on BSF maggots, which includes how to make water spinach leaf extract, how to maintain maggots, and how to make flour and pellets for artificial feed. The village lecture activity was attended by 40 women in the fish farming group in Pulau Semambu Village and students taking the Entomology and Entrepreneurship courses.The result of the activity is to increase the productivity and population of fish livestock in Pulau Semambu. The provision of fish feed based on a mixture of maggot flour and water spinach extract can enhance the growth and immune system of fish livestock, resulting in heavier fish that are less prone to disease. Increasing the production and population of fish livestock will result in higher incomes for the fish farmers in Pulau Semambu village, Inderalaya Utara, Ogan Ilir.

Abstract

Stunting telah menjadi isu kesehatan nasional karena Indonesia merupakan negara dengan kejadian stunting tertinggi ketiga di dunia. Ogan Ilir adalah salah satu kabupaten di Sumatera Selatan yang angka prevalensi stunting-nya di atas nasional, yakni 24,9 persen. Data kementrian kesehatan melaporkan bahwa  40% anak usia 6-24 bulan tidak diberi makanan yang beragam dan 28% tidak mendapat frekwensi makan yang cukup mengakibatkan tingginya angka stunting. Salah satu sasaran prioritas program percepatan pencegahan stunting adalah ibu hamil, ibu menyusui dan anak usia 0 – 23 bulan. Upaya yang dilakukan adalah dengan memberikan makanan pendamping ASI (MPASI) yang berkualitas dan tepat. Pemberian makanan pendamping ASI bertujuan melengkapi pemberian ASI dan untuk membiasakan pola makan yang sehat dan memastikan anak-anak tidak mengalami penyakit tidak menular dikemudian hari. Tanaman kelor merupakan salah satu jawaban untuk mengatasi permasalahan ketidak-seimbangan nutrisi yang dihadapi. Daun kelor kaya akan mineral seperti kalsium, potasium, zinc, magnesium, besi, dan tembaga. Vitamin seperti beta-karoten dari vitamin A, D, E dan vitamin B, vitamin C, dan juga flavonoid yang berkhasiat sebagai antioksidan. Kegiatan edukasi telah dilaksanakan pada hari Rabu tanggal 18 September 2024, bertepatan dengan kegiatan Pos Yandu di desa Tanjung Pering. Kegiatan diikuti oleh 30 orang peserta terdiri dari ibu hamil, ibu muda yang memiliki balita dan kader Posyandu. Pada kegiatan ini diajarkan tentang inovasi cara membuat makanan pendamping ASI dengan memanfaatkan daun kelor yang kaya kandungan gizi dan mineral. Kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat mencegah stunting di lingkungan keluarga dan menjadi motor penggerak penurunan angka stunting di daerah Ogan Ilir. Kegiatan ini bermanfaat menambahkan pengetahuan masyarakat tentang manfat daun kelor sebagai MPASI dan mencegah stunting.

Abstract

This community service program aims to develop nutraceutical-based health products from temu mangga (Curcuma mangga Val.van Zip) and probiotics, called "TEMAPRO". Research and socialization were conducted in Pulau Semambu Village, South Sumatra, targeting village mothers who have limited knowledge about the benefits of herbs and probiotics. Temu mangga, which is traditionally consumed as a salad and herbal medicine, contains various active compounds that have the potential as antioxidants and anti-cancer. Combined with the probiotic Lactobacillus rhamnosus, this product is expected to support digestive health and increase body immunity. Implementation methods include education, training in making temu mangga extract, mixing with probiotics, and product packaging techniques. The results of the activities showed an increase in community understanding and skills in processing local materials into health products with economic value. It is hoped that "TEMAPRO" will not only improve the quality of public health, but also open up business opportunities in the village through local nutraceutical products.

Abstract

Liquid lipstick is a type of lip color cosmetic that consumers highly favor. However, repeated use of liquid lipstick can promote the growth of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) bacteria. The formulation of liquid lipstick involves several components, including a mixture of wax, oil, and other additives. Sesame seed oil (Sesamum indicum L.), incorporated into the formulation, serves as both a base and preservative due to its fatty acid content, which is expected to inhibit the growth of S. aureus bacteria. Microcrystalline wax is added to achieve a good texture and enhance the adhesion properties of the formulation. This study aimed to determine the optimum formula and evaluate the antibacterial activity of the liquid lipstick formulation. The formula was developed using a 2² factorial design method, with sesame seed oil and microcrystalline wax as variables. The optimum formula was analyzed using Design Expert® 13 software based on parameters such as viscosity, spreadability, and adhesion. The final optimum formula consisted of 70% sesame seed oil and 5% microcrystalline wax. The formulation demonstrated good stability during the cycling test, maintaining red color, vanilla and sesame-like aroma, liquid texture, and pH 5. The viscosity was 11797.51 cP, the spreadability was 6.06 cm, and the adhesion time was 64 seconds. Antibacterial activity, assessed using the disk diffusion method, yielded an inhibition zone diameter of 15±1.322 mm, indicating a strong inhibition zone. Based on the research findings, it was concluded that the optimum sesame seed oil-based liquid lipstick formula exhibited good product characteristics, stability, and strong antibacterial activity.

Abstract

Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder marked by cognitive decline and memory loss, primarily caused by the aggregation of amyloid-beta and tau proteins in the brain. Conventional treatments offer limited benefits, emphasizing the need for new therapeutic strategies. To design and evaluate short peptides as targeted protein inhibitors to prevent the aggregation of amyloid-beta and tau proteins, aiming to halt or reverse the progression of Alzheimer's disease. The study employed computational modeling to design peptides, followed by in vitro assays for initial screening, and in vivo tests using transgenic mouse models to assess therapeutic efficacy and safety. Techniques included mass spectrometry, HPLC, and behavioral tests for cognitive function. Designed peptides demonstrated high binding affinity and specificity for amyloid-beta and tau proteins, reducing aggregation by 70% in vitro. In vivo studies showed significant reductions in amyloid plaques and tau tangles, with improved cognitive performance in treated mice. Peptides effectively crossed the blood-brain barrier and accumulated in target brain regions. The findings support the potential of short peptides as a novel therapeutic approach for Alzheimer's disease, warranting further research and clinical trials to validate their efficacy and safety in human subjects.

Abstract

Lung cancer remains a significant health challenge with high mortality rates, necessitating innovative treatment approaches. Lipid nanoparticles (LNP) offer a promising platform for the delivery of small interfering RNA (siRNA) as gene therapy to target specific oncogenes in lung cancer cells. To develop and optimize LNPs for efficient siRNA delivery, improving gene silencing efficiency and therapeutic outcomes in lung cancer treatment. The study involved in vitro and in vivo experiments to characterize the LNPs, evaluate gene silencing efficiency, and assess therapeutic efficacy. LNPs were formulated with specific lipid compositions and tested on lung cancer cell lines and murine models. Optimized LNP formulations demonstrated high siRNA encapsulation efficiency (>85%), stable particle size (80-120 nm), and suitable zeta potential (-30 to -50 mV). In vitro studies showed over 70% gene silencing efficiency, while in vivo experiments indicated significant tumor growth inhibition and improved survival rates in murine models. Biodistribution studies confirmed targeted delivery to lung and tumor tissues with minimal off-target effects. The study highlights the potential of LNP-siRNA therapy as an effective and specific treatment for lung cancer. Further research and clinical trials are needed to validate these findings and optimize the delivery system for clinical use.
