Abstract

This study dealt with Question Word in English and North Aceh Dialect of Acehnese. The objectives of the study were to investigate the similarities, differences, and implication of question words in English and Acehnese by using Paul’s theory. This study was conducted by using descriptive library research. The data of this study were taken from some books of English and Acehnese grammatical structure. For collecting data, this study used the method of contrastive analysis. The findings showed that there were five similarities and seven differences based on form and function. Question word in English and Acehnese were partly-correspondences in terms of form. There were the question word in both languages can be placed at the beginning of question, while Acehnese question word can be placed in the middle of question after added a based word /tu-/ that can produce a new question word. In term of function, Question word in English and Acehnese were partly-correspondences because both languages were asking about informations, while in English there were two question words that can change the basic function after added the word “about”.Keywords: Question Word, English, North Aceh Dialect, Acehnese.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to find out signs, the realization of signs in to denotative and connotative meanings, and the reasons for signs realization on Tugu Si Raja Batak in Sarimarrihit Village, Sianjur Mula-Mula sub-district, Samosir Regency. The study was conducted using a qualitative approach. The data of this study were taken from Tugu Si Raja Batak. The data of the study were statues and pictures on Tugu Si Raja Batak. The data analysis was taken by observing, interviewing, and then analyzed the data based on the theory proposed by Roland Barthes. The findings indicated that there were twenty-two signs on Tugu Si Raja Batak in four forms, namely human ornaments, animal ornaments, plant ornaments, and carving. The signs of human ornaments were the Si Raja Batak means descendants with different clans and some servants for different work. The signs of animal ornaments made to show that Si Raja Batak and his descendants used the animals around him as transportations. Then, the plant ornaments they were Lime (Pangir) and Banyan tree (Jajabi) appear because the Batak people are famous for traditional medicine that uses plants such as Lime (Pangir) and betel as medicine for sick people, possessed people, and also for offerings to their ancestors. Furthermore, in the Tugu Si Raja Batak, carvings made because the Si Raja Batak seat requires beautiful decoration and their culture to respect the kings

Abstract

This study aimed to reveal and explain honorific subjective pronouns used by Minangnese in Kecamatan Medan Area by trying to find out the type most used, the way, and the reason of people in Kecamatan Medan Area to use it. This study used a descriptive qualitative method, this study conducted in Kecamatan Medan Area, there were 32 Minangnese in Kecamatan Medan Area as respondents. In this research, the data collected by using an interview and questionnaire. The findings of this study that Minangnese Subjective Pronouns in Kecamatan Medan Area mostly used were first honorific subject pronouns Ambo/Denai with 93 times chosen, second honorific subject pronouns Menyebut nama orang lain (call a name) with 91 times chosen, and third Personal Subject Pronouns si + nama orang with 120 times chosen. Age, gender, situation, and formality that determined the way of people in Kecamatan Medan Area using honorific subjective pronouns and reason of respondents in Kecamatan Medan Area using Minangnese honorific subjective pronouns were adapting situation and politeness

Abstract

The writer was found the result of this study about Terms of Address in Pesisir Barus Notrth Sumatera Kecamatan Barus, Kabupaten Tapanuli Tengah. this study aims to determine the kinds and factors of using Address Terms in Pesisir Barus community. And the data use by applying descriptive qualitative and quantitative method. The source of data was taken from the interviewing, video, recording and conversation in community. The technique for analyzing the data is descriptive qualitative research based on Wardaugh’s. The result of this reserach was kinds, factors and function in Pesisir Barus Community. The most dominant kinds the terns of address are used by pesisir barus community is RT (62 times), the most dominant rarely used by pesisir barus community is KT (56 times), PN (16 times), FN (11 times), and MT (2 times), IT (4 times) is seldom used by Pesisir Barus Community. There are four kinds factors and function of the terns of address in Pesisir Barus Community can be divided as G (Gender), A (Age), FR (Family Relationship). R (Respect). With the total factors of address terms used by Pesisir Barus Community was analysis G (27 times), A (28 times), FR (36 times), R (60 times).

Abstract

The research dealt with taboo words in Deapool movie. The objectives of research aimed at explaining the types of taboo words and also to figure out motives of using taboo words in Deadpool movie. The research conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. This study was different from previous researcher that found types and function of taboo words while in this study focused on types and motives of using taboo words. The data were taken from the utterances that contain taboo words by first main character in this movie. There were 82 taboo words that had been uttered in this movie. From nine types of taboo words, there were eight of them, they were Cursing 2,44 %, Profanity 3,66 %, Obscenity 40,24%, Vulgarity 6,10 %, Insults and slurs 9,76 %, Slang 12,20 %, Epithets 20,73 %, and Scatology 2,44 %. And for the motives of using taboo words, there were five from five motives of them, they were Angry or Frustration 30,48 %, Descriptive- evaluative 43,90 %, Joking 7,32 %, Surprise 14,64 %, and Sarcastic Irony Insults 3,66 %.
