Abstract

Manure derived from cattle, chickens, and goats can be used as compost and has different nutrient content. The application of manure compost can improve soil’s physical, chemical, and biological properties and thus increase plant growth and productivity. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of various manure compost (cow, chicken, and goat) on the growth of elephant grass cv Pakchong (Pennisetum purpureum cv. Pakchong). The design used was a completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 5 replications. The treatment is fertilizing using compost, namely P0= without compost, P1=cow manure compost, P2=chicken manure compost, and P3=goat manure compost. The observed variables were plant height, the number of leaves and tiller, and the dry weight of the leaves stem shoots and roots. The results showed that the use of manure compost had a significant effect (P<0.05) on increasing the growth of elephant grass cv. Pakchong. Chicken manure compost produces the best growth of elephant grass cv. Pakchong which is seen from the plant height, the number of leaves and tiller, and the dry weight of the leaves, stems, and shoots.

Abstract

ABSTRAKProduktivitas ternak ruminansia, khususnya ternak sapi yang rendah sehubungan dengan ketersediaan dan akses terhadap pakan berkualitas yang kurang, dan minimnya pengetahuan tentang cara pembudidayaan hijauan khususnya legum pohon merupakan permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh peternak di kelompok Tani Rukun Makmur, Tangkit, Jambi. Disamping beternak, para peternak juga melakukan kegiatan pertanian yang didominasi oleh tanaman sayuran. Tujuan kegiatan Pengabdian Pada Masyarakat (PPM) ini untuk mengenalkan potensi Indigofera zollingeriana sebagai hijauan pakan ternak berkualitas dan pemberian bibit / benih I. zollingeriana ke peternak di kelompok Tani Rukun Makmur, Tangkit, Jambi. Metode yang dipakai dalam pencapaian tujuan adalah pendidikan masyarakat melalui penyuluhan. Solusi yang ditawarkan meliputi: 1) peningkatan pengetahuan peternak tentang pakan hijauan berkualitas dan cara budidayanya dalam lahan usaha tani sayuran melalui penyuluhan, dan 2) introduksi dan pemberian benih dan bibit. Kegiatan PPM yang meliputi penyuluhan dan penanaman bibit Indigofera berjalan lancar. Pelaksanaan penyuluhan terjadi di lapangan bersamaan dengan penanaman seluruh bibit yang diberikan. Hasil kegiatan pendampingan, peternak juga melakukan pembibitan dari benih yang diberikan. Kegiatan PPM ini diliput oleh media televisi lokal untuk disiarkan sekaligus sebagai ajang promosi bagi kelompok Tani Rukun Makmur yang menggeluti usaha penggemukan sapi. Kata kunci: Introduksi; Indigofera zollingeriana; pakan berkualitas; pendidikan masyarakat ABSTRACTThe low productivity of ruminants, especially cattle, is related to the availability and access to poor quality feed, and the lack of knowledge about how to cultivate forages, especially tree legumes, is a problem faced by farmers in the Rukun Makmur Farmer Group, Tangkit, Jambi. Besides raising livestock, the farmers also carry out agricultural activities which are dominated by vegetable crops.The purpose of this community service (PPM) activity was to introduce the potential of Indigofera zollingeriana as high-quality forage for livestock and provide I. zollingeriana seeds and seedlings to farmers in the Rukun Makmur Farmer group, Tangkit, Jambi. The method used in achieving the goals was community education through outreach activity. The solutions offered include: 1) improving farmers’ knowledge about quality forage and how to cultivate it in vegetable farming fields through outreach activity, and 2) introduction and provision of seeds and seedlings. The activities which included outreach activity and planting of Indigofera seedlings went right. The outreach activity took place in the field at the same time aplanting all the seedlingsas given. As a result of mentoring activities, farmers also carried out nurseries from the seeds provided. This outreach activity was broadcasted by local television media and a promotional event for the Rukun Makmur Farmer group, which has cattle fattening business. Keywords: high quality forage; Indigofera zollingeriana; introduction; community education

Abstract

ABSTRAK Pangan dan pakan fungsional merupakan bahan pangan atau pakan yang tidak hanya berperan sebagai sumber untuk pemenuhan nutrisi bagi manusia dan ternak namun juga mempunyai potensi membantu menjaga metabolism tubuh dan daya yahan tubuh. Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PPM) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan Wanita Tani tentang kelor (Moringa oleifera) sebagai pangan dan pakan fungsional di masa pandemi. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di KWT Melati Dusun Karang Mulyo, Muaro Jambi, Jambi. Pengenalan kelor dilakukan dengan menyediakan dan memberikan benih dan bibit serta informasi tentang kelor dan manfaatnya dengan metode Pendidikan Masyarakat melalui kegiatan penyuluhan. Setelah kegiatan PPM ini seluruh anggota KWT Melati telah mengetahui lebih banyak manfaat Moringa baik sebagai pangan maupun sebagai pakan ternak. Anggota KWT Melati sangat antusias untuk mengetahui proses fortifikasi pangan dengan Moringa. Anggota KWT Melati mau mengadopsi dengan menanam Moringa di lahan pekarangan setelah mengetahui Moringa sangat mudah untuk dibudidayakan dan manfaatnya sebagai pangan dan pakan fungsional. Kata Kunci: Moringa Oleifera, Pangan Dan Pakan Fungsional, Peningkatan Pengetahuan  ABSTRACT Functional food and feed are food or feed ingredients that not only act as a source of nutrition for humans and livestock but also have the potential to help maintain the body's metabolism and immune system. The purpose of this community service activity was to increase farmer women's understanding of Moringa oleifera as functional food and feed which is very useful during the Covid 19 pandemic. This activity was carried out at the Melati Women Farmers Group (WFG) Karang Mulyo Village, Muaro Jambi Regency, Jambi Province. The introduction of Moringa plants is done by providing Moringa seeds and seedlings as well as information about Moringa and its benefits with Public Education method through outreach activities. XXX. After the outreach activity, all members of WFG of Melati have known more benefits of Moringa for food as well as feed. Members of WFG are very enthusiastic to know how to process Moringa as food fortification. Members of WFG are willing to plant Moringa in their yard after learning that Moringa is very easy to be cultivated and its benefit for functional food and feed. Keywords: Moringa Oleifera, Functional Food And Feed, Knowledge Improvement

Abstract

The research aimed was to assess the technical, institutional, commercial, financial and economic feasibility of integration model of cattle production with sugarcane farming and its effect on the prosperity of farmers in Kayu Aro Barat District, Kerinci Regency. The method used was survey method with Stratified Random Sampling technique.  Sampling technque consisted of 2 strata i.e. strata I was sugarcane farmers who integrate to cattle production, and strata II was sugarcane farmers who not integrate to cattle production. Each index used present value from cost and benefit flows that were NPV, Net B/C ratio and IRR. For assessing the effect of integration model of cattle production with sugarcane farming on the prosperity of farmer was used path analysis. The study found that integration cattle production with sugarcane farming in Kayu Aro Barat District, Kerinci Regency  was feasible.  Technical, commercial, financial and economical  aspects were partially affect to farmers’ prosperity  in Kayu Aro Barat District, Kerinci Regency.   Key words : Integration model, catlle production, sugarcane

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat karakterisitik fisik dan kimia phospho-kompos yang diperkaya dengan abu serbuk gergaji sebagai sumber kalium. Rancangan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan pola faktorial 2 faktor (3x2) dan 4 ulangan. Faktor pertama adalah abu serbuk gergaji yang terdiri atas: Abu1% = 1%, Abu5% = 5%, Abu10% = 10%. Faktor kedua adalah pupuk phospho kompos yang terdiri atas: R1 = Triphos (phospho-kompos dengan T. harzianum), R2 = Asphos (phospho-kompos dengan A. niger). Peubah yang diamati meliputi: karekteristik fisik: pH, suhu, bau, warna, tekstur, kadar air. karektiristik kimia meliputi: P, K, N, C-organik, C/N rasio. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa karakteristik fisik kompos menunjukkan bahwa kualitas pupuk kompos yang dihasilkan sudah cukup baik terlihat dari pH, suhu, kadar air, warna, aroma dan tekstur yang dihasilkan. Perlakuan dengan level 10% abu serbuk gergaji dan pupuk phospho-kompos dengan A. niger dapat memperbaki karakteristik fisik dan kimia kompos (phospho – potash kompos), khususnya K-tersedia kompos yang dihasilkan. Abstract

This research aimed to evaluate complete feed formulas with palm kernel meal (BIS) levels in concentrates fortified/enriched with probiotics on rumen fermentability. The material used is complete animal feed. The feed consists of forages (elephant grass, palm frond leaves) and concentrates (tofu dregs, fine corn, bran, palm kernel meal). 1% probiotics. In vitro analysis equipment, namely analytical scales, test tubes, oven, gauze, water bath, centrifuge, flask, filter, gauze, incubator, pipette dispenser, pH meter and Buchi brand rotary evaporator, flask, spectrometer, beaker glass, distillation tube, phenolphthalein, dropper pipette, Erlenmeyer flask, Conway cup. The materials used were rumen fluid, McDougall's solution, supernatant, 0.5 N NaOH, Vaseline, saturated Na2CO3, alcohol, 1 ml boric acid solution (0.005 N H2SO4), distilled water, 0.5 N HCl. This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 5 treatments and 5 replications. P0: 60% Forage (50% elephant grass + 50% palm fronds)/HPR + 40% concentrate (50% bran, 30% fine corn, 20% tofu dregs)/Const. + 0% BIS + 0% probiotics. P1: (HPR + Const) + 0% BIS + 1% probiotics. P2: (HPR + Const) + 10% BIS + 1% probiotics. P3: (HPR + Const.) + 20% BIS + 1% probiotics. P4: (HPR + Const.) + 30% BIS + 1 % probiotics. The variables observed were dry matter digestibility (KcBK), organic matter digestibility (KcBO), metabolic energy (EM), microbial protein production (PPM), and total VFA. Data were analyzed using variance (ANOVA) and if there was a significant effect, Duncan's further test was carried out. The results showed that complete feed based on palm kernel meal enriched with probiotics had a significant effect (P<0.05) on KcBK, KcBO, EM and PPM and had no significant effect (P>0.05) on the VFA value. Average KcBK 24.84-29.05%, KcBO 20.49-25.52%. EM 9.09-9.96 KCal, PPM 130.18 – 166.75mg/g, and VFA value 1.15-1.24 mM. This research concludes that using palm kernel meal up to 30% ported with probiotics in complete feed positively affects rumen fermentability in vitro

Abstract

This research aims to determine how long cassava peel silage can be stored while maintaining its fermentability in the rumen and its suitability as animal feed. The study was conducted at the Laboratory of Animal Nutrition and Forage, Faculty of Animal Science, University of Jambi. The material used in the research was cassava peel silage, molasses, EM4, and water. The study used a design with four treatments and five replications: P0 - silage without storage, P1 - silage stored for one week, P2 - silage stored for two weeks, and P3 - silage stored for three weeks. The variables observed in this study were pH, total gas, dry matter digestibility (DMD), organic matter digestibility (OMD), VFA, and microbial protein (MP). Data analysis was performed using the SPSS program, and if there was a significant difference between treatments, Duncan's test was carried out. The results showed that the treatment had a significant effect (P<0.05) on pH and an insignificant effect (P>0.05) on DMD, OMD, gas production, VFA, and microbial protein (MP). Based on the average results of the research, which were pH 6.25-6.71, DMD 66.47-72.19%, OMD 74.45-78.38%, total gas 69.00-76.80 ml, VFA 0.729-1.149 µM, and MP 481.080-526.220 mg/g. It can be concluded that cassava peel silage can be stored for up to three weeks without interfering with rumen metabolisms.

Abstract

Storage period is one of the factors which affect the physical and chemical quality of the stored material. This study aimed to determine the effect of storage period on the chemical quality of livestock concentrate biscuits con- taining Indigofera and sengon. Four periods of storage period were arranged in a completely randomized design which was repeated 5 times. The storage period consisted of 0, 7, 14 and 21 days. The chemical qualities observed in- cluded moisture and ash content, crude protein and crude fiber. The results showed that storage period significantly reduced the moisture content of concentrate biscuit, while the ash content, crude protein and crude fiber were not affected by storage period. It was concluded that the concentrate biscuits containing Indigofera and sengon could be stored for up to 21 days with good chemical quality.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the vegetative growth in Gama Umami elephant grass, which is influenced by the diameter of stem cuttings. This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with different diameter treatments, namely, D1= of 1-1.2 cm (small), D2 = of 1.3-1.8 cm (medium), and D3 = of 1.9-2.2 cm (large). The results showed that the plants with large diameters emerged the first bud early compared to those with small and medium diameters. However, the plant with a small diameter had good initial growth, with the number of leaves increasing from the second week, followed by many buds, plant height, and leaves. In this study, it can be concluded that using a plant with a small diameter shows the best results, which can be seen from the number of buds, leaves, plant height, and area.

Abstract

ABSTRAK. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengoptimalisasi produksi protein mikroba rumen melalui suplementasi ekstrak tepung daun sengon (ETDS) yang mengandung condensed tannin (CT). Penelitian disusun dalam Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri dari 7 perlakuan 5 ulangan menggunakan uji in vitro. Ransum yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berupa rumput kolonjono (Brachiaria mutica) dan konsentrat. Perlakuan yang diberikan terdiri dari P0 = Ransum tanpa suplementasi ETDS (kontrol); P1 = Ransum + ETDS 1%; P2 = Ransum + ETDS 2%; P3 = Ransum + ETDS 3%; P4 = Ransum + ETDS 4%; P5 = Ransum + ETDS 5%; P6 = Ransum + ETDS 6%. Peubah yang diamati adalah pH, populasi protozoa, dan produksi protein mikroba (PPM). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan perlakuan taraf suplementasi ETDS yang mengandung condensed tannin (CT) tidak berpengaruh (P0.05) terhadap nilai pH, namun berpengaruh nyata (P0.05) terhadap populasi protozoa dan PPM. Terdapat pola hubungan antara taraf suplementasi ETDS dengan populasi protozoa dan produksi protein mikroba dengan model persamaan Y= -0,2896 x2 + 1,2583 x + 8,1633 (R2 = 0,84) dan Y= -0,0764 x2 + 0,41x + 0,8257 (R2= 0,67). Suplementasi ETDS di atas taraf 3% memperlihatkan terjadinya penurunan populasi protozoa. Sementara itu, produksi protein mikroba terus meningkat sampai level suplementasi ETDS pada taraf 3 % dan selanjutnya mengalami penurunan. Dari penelitian ini disimpulkan bahwa suplementasi ETDS pada taraf 3% mampu menghasilkan produksi protein mikroba yang tertinggi. Populasi protozoa mengalami penurunan pada suplementasi ETDS pada taraf di atas 3%.(Optimizing the production of rumen microbial protein through supplementation sengon leaf extracts (Albizia falcataria) containing condensed tannin)ABSTRACT. The study arranged in completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 7 treatments and 5 replications using in vitro test. The ration used was kolonjono grass (Brachiaria mutica) and concentrate. The treatments consisted of P0 = Ration without supplementation of SLE (control); P1 = Ration + 1% SLE; P2 = Ration + 2% SLE; P3 = Ration + 3% SLE; P4 = Ration + 4% SLE; P5 = Ration + 5% SLE; P6 = Basic Ration + 6% SLE. The observed variables were pH, protozoa population, and microbial protein production (MPP). The results showed that the supplementation of SLE containing CT did not affect (P0.05) the pH value, but significantly (P0.05) affected the protozoa population and MPP. There was a relationship pattern between the supplementation level of SLE with the population of protozoa and MPP with an equation model of Y= -0.2896 x2 + 1.2583 x + 8.1633 (R2 = 0.84) and Y= -0.0764 x2 + 0.41x + 0.8257 (R2= 0.67). Supplementation of SLE above 3% indicates a decrease in protozoa population. Meanwhile, MPP continues to increase until the supplementation level of 3% and subsequently decreases. From this study, it was concluded that supplementation SLE at the level of 3% was able to produce the highest production of microbial proteins. The protozoa population decreased in the supplementation of SLE at levels above 3%.
