Abstract

This study aims to analyze how international media, specifically The Straits Times frames Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka candidacy in the 2024 elections in Indonesia using Robert Entman’s framing theory and the Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) approach by Halliday. Employing a qualitative descriptive method with textual analysis, the study identifies four key framing elements: the defined problem focuses on potential declines in electability due to political controversy; the diagnosed cause points to the Constitutional Court’s revised age requirement; moral judgment appears in the criticism of dynastic politics; and the implied solution emphasizes the need for transparency in political decisions. Meanwhile, the SFL approach reveals that the media’s language choices and sentence structures are not neutral, but instead shape specific representations that can influence public opinion. The use of material processes like “paved the way” and references such as “Jokowi’s brother-in-law” illustrates how language subtly yet effectively builds a particular political narrative. These findings affirm that media not only deliver information but also construct reader perspectives through strategic linguistic choices. AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji bagaimana The Straits Times membentuk narasi mengenai isu pencalonan Prabowo Subianto dan Gibran Rakabuming Raka pada Pemilu tahun 2024 di Indonesia melalui pendekatan framing Robert M. Entman, yang dipadukan dengan analisis linguistik dari Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) milik Halliday. Adapun penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik analisis teks. Hasil studi menunjukkan bahwa media tersebut menggunakan keempat elemen framing Entman: mendefinisikan masalah berupa penurunan elektabilitas Prabowo, mengaitkan penyebab dengan keputusan Mahkamah Konstitusi, menampilkan penilaian moral terhadap dugaan politik dinasti, serta menyiratkan solusi berupa perlunya transparansi. Selain itu, analisis SFL mengungkapkan bahwa pilihan leksikal dan struktur kalimat yang digunakan tidak bersifat netral. Ungkapan seperti “paved the way” dan penyebutan hubungan kekeluargaan dalam frasa “Jokowi’s brother-in-law” merupakan bentuk representasi makna yang secara halus mengarahkan opini pembaca. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa media tidak hanya menyajikan informasi, melainkan juga secara strategis membingkai isu politik melalui penggunaan bahasa.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji proses rebranding GoGirl! dari majalah konvensional menjadi media hibrida Playzine dan implikasinya pada pengelolaan ruang redaksi. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif studi kasus eksplanatoris Robert K. Yin. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa kebijakan memilih strategi rebranding menjadi media hibrida Playzine berdasarkan pertimbangan para petinggi GoGirl! yakni Anita Moran, Nina Moran, dan Githa Moran dalam melihat perubahan gaya hidup target khalayak GoGirl!. Proses rebranding terdiri dari empat tahap dimulai dari repositioning melalui perubahan tagline dan bentuk media. Tahap kedua, renaming menjadi Playzine. Tahap ketiga, redesign elemen tangible dan intangible. Tahap terakhir proses rebranding adalah relaunching menggunakan akun media sosial. Rebranding GoGirl! berimplikasi pada pengelolaan ruang redaksi pada aspek penentuan konten, perubahan alur kerja, dan penambahan beban kerja wartawan.

Abstract

Journalists are expected to be responsible for fulfilling the public interest in information as well as the demands of media companies. Excessive jobs could have positive and negative impacts on journalists, affecting the increase and decrease of journalists' performance. The job demands can demonstrate the performance or achievements of journalists; the higher the journalists can manage their time well; the journalist performance will increase. This study aims to confirm the sub-dimensional pictures of the variables of job demands and performance of journalists and whether job demands significantly affect the performance of journalists. The method used in this research is quantitative with descriptive analysis and verification. Analytical techniques are used to validate tests, reliability, normality, autocorrelation, and heterodedensity. The hypotheses test uses a simple regression linear test, signification partial (t statistical test), and determination. As a result, the researchers concluded: 1) The work demands of the Pikiran Rakyat Newspaper Journalists did not stress the journalists, and the workload and the work environment were considered good. The demands of work also do not affect the performance of journalists, so the quality of writing, quantity, timeliness, effectiveness, and independence are classified as good. 2) There is a significant positive effect of about 50.7% between the influence of Job Demands on the Performance of Journalists in the Pikiran Rakyat Newspaper. This means that the demands of work do not affect nor make the performance of journalists decrease. However, intrinsic and extrinsic factors can affect the decline of journalists' performance.

Abstract

Penelitian ini ingin mengetahui bagaimana TV One menciptakan wacana pernikahan sesama jenis dalam program "Debat", "Nikah Sesama Jenis, Manusiawi atau Eksistensi?" episode, 6 Juli 2015. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode Analisis Wacana Kritis model Norman Fairclough, dengan fokus analisis pada dimensi teks, praktik wacana, dan praktik sosiokultural. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada tingkat teks, ideologi dari pihak yang kontra menolak wacana pernikahan sesama jenis di Indonesia sangat mendominasi program tersebut, karena mereka mendapat lebih banyak kesempatan untuk berbicara dari tuan rumah daripada yang profesional. Pada tingkat praktik wacana disimpulkan bahwa kebijakan dari tim redaksi TV One yang berlawanan dengan wacana pernikahan sesama jenis mempengaruhi proses produksi dan konsumsi teks. Pada tingkat praktik sosiokultural terungkap bahwa secara umum, masyarakat Indonesia masih sulit menentang wacana pernikahan sesama jenis untuk disetujui dan dilegalkan di negara tersebut.

Abstract

Social influences have long been recognized as important determinants of gambling behavior. Nevertheless, relatively little is known about the role of perceived social norms in shaping behavioral expectations regarding online gambling. Drawing on the Theory of Normative Social Behavior (TNSB), this study investigates how Descriptive norms and Injunctive norms interact in shaping university students' behavioral expectation of trying online gambling. A quantitative explanatory approach with a cross-sectional survey design was employed. Data were collected from 169 university students using convenience sampling and analysed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings indicate that Descriptive norms do not directly influence behavioral expectation. Instead, their influence operates entirely through Injunctive norms, which emerged as both a significant direct predictor and a full mediator. In contrast, Injunctive norms did not moderate the relationship between Descriptive norms and behavioral expectation. These findings highlight the central role of perceived social acceptance in shaping behavioral expectation regarding online gambling and extend the application of TNSB by demonstrating that Descriptive norms may require social approval mechanisms before influencing pre-behavioral cognitive outcomes. The findings also suggest that interventions should focus on correcting misperceptions about the social acceptability of online gambling among university students.
