Abstract

Critical thinking skills are essential competencies in the 21st century; however, they remain low in Indonesia, particularly in physics learning. This study aims to examine the effect of a contextual problem-based learning model in enhancing the critical thinking skills of 10th-grade students on the topic of kinematics in linear motion. This model integrates problem-based learning with a contextual approach. The research employs a quantitative method with a One-Group Pretest-Posttest design. The sample consists of 35 students from a Madrasah Aliyah in Garut Regency, selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments include 12 essay questions to measure critical thinking skills, 10 questionnaire statements to assess students' responses, and an observation sheet to evaluate learning implementation. The analysis was conducted using both statistical and non-statistical methods. The statistical analysis involved comparing the mean pretest and posttest scores using IBM SPSS statistics, which showed a significant difference with a significance value of 0.001 < 0.05, where the posttest mean score (88) was higher than the pretest mean score (28). Meanwhile, the non-statistical analysis was performed by calculating the N-gain score and interpreting it using Hake’s criteria, which resulted in a score of 0.82, categorized as high. Students' responses to the contextual problem-based learning model were overwhelmingly positive, reaching 86% with a highly positive interpretation. Thus, the contextual problem-based learning model effectively enhances students' critical thinking skills, particularly in the topic of kinematics in linear motion.

Abstract

In the wake of accelerating digital transformation, this study investigates how digital infrastructure, competency frameworks, and policy implementation influence digital literacy in K-12 education. The study employs a narrative review methodology, synthesizing findings from diverse literature databases including Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. Using keywords such as "digital literacy," "K-12," "ICT integration," and "teacher digital competence," studies were screened based on inclusion criteria focusing on infrastructure, pedagogy, and policy. The review reveals that access to robust digital infrastructure significantly correlates with enhanced student engagement and digital skill acquisition. Countries with well-developed digital ecosystems exhibit stronger outcomes due to government investment, teacher training, and integrated curricular reforms. In contrast, developing countries face persistent challenges such as unequal infrastructure distribution, policy misalignment, and limited professional development opportunities. Notably, the study challenges the assumption that individual resistance is the primary barrier, emphasizing instead the structural nature of these obstacles. Recommendations include strengthening policy frameworks, increasing investment in rural connectivity, and implementing scalable teacher training programs. The study underscores the necessity for adaptive, data-driven, and equity-oriented interventions to close the digital divide and promote inclusive educational transformation. The findings offer strategic insights for policymakers, educators, and researchers seeking to build resilient digital learning environments.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to enhance high school students’ problem-solving skills in rotational dynamics through the STEM-Project Approach for Real-World Knowledge (SPARK) model. The study employed a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach to measure the progress of 30 first-year students (15 males and 15 females) from a high school in Bandung, Indonesia. Validated twenty-four essay questions was used to assess students' problem-solving abilities before and after the intervention. The results demonstrated moderate improvements in problem-solving skills, with significant advancements in problem identification (N-Gain: 0.59) and the application of scientific concepts (N-Gain: 0.53), while less improvement was observed in suggesting alternative solutions (N-Gain: 0.23) and designing tools (N-Gain: 0.16). The study, analyzed through portfolios and normalized gain values, indicated medium-category increases in some aspects of problem-solving skills. It can be concluded that the SPARK model is effective in enhancing high school students' problem-solving skills in rotational dynamics, particularly in improving the identification of problems and their relation to physics concepts. However, the model was less effective in improving the design aspect, indicating the need for further development in this area. Future research should focus on creating worksheets that better align with these problem-solving indicators.

Abstract

This narrative review explores gamification as a pedagogical strategy in higher education, highlighting its role in improving student engagement, learning outcomes, and motivation. Literature was collected from Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, and Google Scholar using keywords such as “gamification and student engagement,” “game-based learning in higher education,” and “gamification and learning outcomes.” Inclusion criteria emphasized empirical and theoretical studies published between 2010 and 2025. Findings show that gamification enhances participation, satisfaction, and academic performance by fostering both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Comparative evidence indicates stronger results in developed countries supported by robust digital infrastructure, while limited resources constrain adoption in developing regions. Cultural contexts also matter: competitive elements thrive where recognition is valued, while collaborative gamification proves more effective in cooperative cultures. The results align with Self-Determination Theory and Flow Theory, demonstrating how gamification supports autonomy, competence, and deep engagement. Challenges remain in ensuring equitable access, sustaining long-term impact, and addressing design limitations. Policy support through infrastructure, teacher training, and institutional investment is crucial. Future research should emphasize longitudinal evaluations, adaptive frameworks, and low-tech innovations to foster inclusivity and sustainability. Overall, gamification holds significant potential to transform higher education when integrated thoughtfully within systemic and cultural contexts
