Abstract

This study aims to improve the mathematics learning outcomes of grade II elementary school students through the implementation of the Game-Based Learning (GBL) model integrated with the Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach. The background of this research is the low level of student achievement and engagement in mathematics learning, which often lacks contextual and culturally relevant content. The combination of GBL and CRT is considered effective because it creates an active, enjoyable, and meaningful learning environment while connecting learning materials to students’ cultural backgrounds. This Classroom Action Research employed the Kurt Lewin model, conducted in two cycles consisting of pre-cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II stages, involving 28 students of grade IIA at SDN Bandungrejosari 3 Malang City. Data were collected using observation sheets, documentation, and mathematics learning outcome tests. The results showed a significant improvement in students' learning outcomes, with mastery learning increasing from 38.46% in the pre-cycle to 67.85% in Cycle I, and reaching 85.71% in Cycle II. The integration of GBL and CRT not only enhanced student achievement but also increased students' activeness, participation, and enthusiasm during mathematics lessons. These findings indicate that the combined application of the GBL model and CRT approach is effective in improving mathematics learning outcomes in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the application of the Game-Based Learning (GBL) model based on Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) in improving the mathematics learning outcomes of grade IV A students of Bandungrejosari 3 Public Elementary School Malang. The research background is the low learning outcomes and student engagement in mathematics learning, along with the limited integration of social-emotional learning components in classroom practices. The method used is Classroom Action Research which is carried out in three stages, namely pre-cycle, cycle I, and cycle II, following the Kemmis and McTaggart model that includes planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through learning outcome tests and student response questionnaires administered at each stage. The results showed a significant increase in the completeness of learning outcomes from the pre-cycle stage to cycle II, indicating that students’ academic performance in mathematics improved through the implementation of this model. In addition to academic achievement, the application of the CASEL-based Game-Based Learning model also contributed to the development of students’ social-emotional aspects, particularly in collaboration, communication, empathy, and self-regulation skills, which were observed during group activities and interactive game sessions. These findings indicate that integrating CASEL-based GBL is effective in promoting both cognitive and social-emotional competencies in elementary school students.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are essential competencies for students. However, elementary school students in Indonesia still show weaknesses in this aspect, as they tend to emphasize memorization. This study aims to examine the effect of the E-LKPD Liveworksheet-assisted Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on the critical thinking skills of fifth-grade students in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS). The study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design of the Pretest-Posttest Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The research subjects involved 58 students from two elementary schools in Pamekasan Regency, divided into an experimental group and a control group. The instrument was a multiple-choice critical thinking test consisting of 10 items that had been validated and proven reliable. The data were analyzed using normality, homogeneity, N-Gain, and independent t-tests with the help of SPSS 22. The results showed that the experimental group obtained higher post-test scores (M = 77.86) and N-Gain (0.6179, medium-high category) compared to the control group (M = 55.67; N-Gain = 0.3513, medium category), with a significant difference (p < 0.05). These findings confirm that integrating PBL with E-LKPD  Liveworksheet effectively improves critical thinking skills. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of PBL with interactive digital worksheets in elementary school science education. It contributes theoretically to the study of digital-based PBL and provides practical benefits for teachers in designing innovative, student-centered learning in the digital age.

Financial management skills are very important in life, so these skills must be trained from an early age so that when they grow up they become wise people who use money responsibly. This study aims to describe the results of the analysis of the ability of elementary school students to manage their money creatively and responsibly. This research method is descriptive qualitative. Data collection by survey by giving instruments in the form of questionnaires 12 questions for individuals and 1 question for groups. The research sample as the source is 80 public and private elementary school students in Malang city. Data analysis techniques using Miles and Huberman with data collection steps, data reduction, data presentation and data verification. Based on the results of the survey of the ability to manage finances in the aspect of utilizing pocket money for saving and entrepreneurship individually with group financial management obtained, it shows that there is not too much difference. In individual results, the majority of students have set aside pocket money to save and do small businesses but have not yet appeared well managed, in group results there is already a detailed planning of financial management for business but the calculation of capital and profit is not appropriate. Financial management skills in elementary school students still need more serious handling in order to increase more creative and responsible.

Abstract

The implementation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) has been attempted in fourth-grade social studies at SDN Sukun 2 Malang as a response to global demands for critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. This research aims to comprehensively describe the PBL implementation process, analyze the development of students' critical thinking skills, and identify the supporting and hindering factors in the implementation of PBL and the development of fourth-grade students' critical thinking skills at SDN Sukun 2 Malang in solving social studies problems. This research used a qualitative approach with an analytical descriptive design, with 27 fourth-grade B students as subjects. The research instruments included observation sheets, interview guides, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, and data validity was checked through triangulation techniques. Research findings indicate that PBL implementation proceeded through stages of providing contextual problems, group collaboration, discussion and problem-solving, product creation (slogan), and process performance assessment, with the teacher acting as a facilitator and motivator. The application of PBL in the classroom was supported by the active role of the teacher, the availability of learning facilities, and student enthusiasm in group work. PBL in the classroom successfully encouraged students to be more active, critical thinkers, and collaborative, although it still faced challenges requiring further adaptation and habituation.
