Abstract

Students' learning motivation for mathematics subjects on fractions tends to be low, which has an impact on student learning outcomes in class. Based on a survey at SDN Cibabat 4, there were students who were less interested in mathematics because it was considered difficult and unpleasant, so it is important to find ways that can increase students' learning motivation. This study aims to measure the learning motivation of mathematics on fractions of grade IV students at SDN Cibabat 4 using the interactive learning media PhET Interactive Simulation. The method used is descriptive quantitative, with collection through a questionnaire that includes six indicators of learning motivation. The subjects of this study were 27 grade IV students. The results of this study indicate that the use of PhET Interactive Simulations media significantly increases students' learning motivation, with an average percentage of motivation reaching 85.97% which is included in the "Very Good" category. These results indicate that PhET Interactive Simulation media is able to create more interactive and interesting learning, so that it can increase student motivation and involvement in learning mathematics on fractions.

Abstract

his study aims to determine the learning motivation of grade V students in angular material in the subject of Mathematics with the help of Polypad media. The research method used in this study is a descriptive method with a quantitative approach and data analysis using Microsoft Excel software. The sample used in this study was 30 students in grade V of SDN Cibabat Mandiri 2. The instrument used was in the form of a questionnaire consisting of 5 indicators that included 15 questions, consisting of 8 positive questions and 7 negative questions. The results showed that the use of Polypad media significantly increased students' motivation to learn, with an average motivation percentage reaching 78%, which was in the "Good" category. These results show that Polypad media is able to create more interactive and interesting learning, so that it can increase student motivation and involvement in learning mathematics.

Abstract

This research is based on the lack of students ability in mathematical creative thinking and self concept. For that reason, this study aims to improve the students ability of mathematical creative thinking and self-concept through problem-based learning. Using Quasi Experiment method and nonequivalent control group design, this study is included into experimental research. The population of this research is the seventh graders of Junior High School in the district of Cimahi, West Java, Indonesia, and the sampling technique is purposive sampling, with one experimental group which is mathematical learning using problem-based learning (PBM) and one control group which is mathematical learning using conventional onewiththe number of samples in this study were 74 students. The hypothesis test his study is done by using parametric and nonparametric test (t-test and Mann-Whitney). The results showed that mathematical creative thinking and self-concept ability of students who use problem-based learning is better than students who receive conventional learning. Then, the increase of ability and creative thinking of students who use problem-based learning is better than those who receive the conventional learning and their self-concept is classified as being medium

Abstract

This research aims to determine the level of effectiveness of a model, namely discovery learning in mathematics learning, on students' mathematical understanding. This research had research subjects consisting of 18 class X SMA Budi Bakti 2 Cianjur students. Carried out using mixed methods, the instruments used were also created to measure quantitative as well as qualitative data. The data analysis used was hypothesis testing with a one-sample t test carried out on students' posttest scores. Apart from the t test, correlation and regression tests were also carried out on students' interest in learning and mathematical understanding. From the research conducted, the use of the discovery learning model is effective for application in mathematics learning in terms of mathematical understanding. The use of the discovery learning model has proven to be effective because students' mathematical understanding can exceed the KKM score. Interest in learning has a correlation with students' mathematical understanding, therefore interest in learning also has a regression towards mathematical understanding with a relatively high level of regression or a dominant influence.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Discovery Learning model in improving students’ numeracy skills. The research employed a mixed-methods approach with a Convergent Parallel design, in which quantitative and qualitative data were collected simultaneously. Quantitative data were obtained through pretests and posttests, while qualitative data were gathered through student interviews in the experimental class. The subjects consisted of two classes of 30 students each, namely an experimental class and a control class. The results show that the experimental class achieved a higher posttest average compared to the control class and successfully reached the mastery learning criteria, whereas the control class did not. In addition, student questionnaires indicated positive responses with a percentage above 75%. Therefore, Discovery Learning is effective in enhancing numeracy performance and fostering active student engagement in the learning process

Abstract

Background: Mathematical representation plays a crucial role in students’ understanding of probability concepts, particularly in computing chances, which requires coordination among visual, symbolic, and verbal forms. Previous studies indicate that students often rely on procedural calculations without adequately constructing or connecting representations, leading to shallow conceptual understanding. Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) and Mathematics in Context (MiC) tasks offer potential to address this issue by emphasizing contextual modeling and progressive formalization. Aims: This study aims to describe the forms of mathematical representations used by junior high school students and to analyze the interrelationships among visual, symbolic, and verbal representations when solving MiC tasks on computing chances based on RME principles. Method: A qualitative descriptive approach was employed involving 19 eighth-grade students who had participated in RME-based probability instruction. Data were collected through MiC computing chances tests adapted from Holt et al. and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, encompassing data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. This percentage is obtained from the rubric score on students' written responses per item which is then averaged. Results: The results showed that visual representation achieved the highest level (60%), followed by symbolic representation (54%), while verbal representation was the weakest (48%). Visual models functioned effectively as model-of contexts, and symbolic representations developed through progressive formalization; however, integration among representations was not optimal due to limited verbal explanation. Conclusion: RME-based MiC tasks effectively support the development of students’ visual and symbolic representations in probability learning. Nevertheless, strengthening students’ verbal representation and reflective communication is essential to enhance the coherence and meaningful integration of multiple mathematical representations.
