Abstract

This study explores the relationship between zakat distribution and per capita income across Indonesian provinces in 2023. Drawing on secondary data from BAZNAS and official national statistics, the findings reveal an unexpected negative association between zakat distribution and income levels, suggesting that regions receiving higher zakat allocations tend to have lower per capita income. This outcome contrasts with the theoretical expectation that zakat, whether distributed for consumptive or productive purposes, should contribute to income growth through increased household spending or business capital. Further analysis indicates that zakat’s role as an economic empowerment instrument remains limited, as a considerable portion of its distribution is directed toward non-economic sectors. These findings highlight the need for a more strategic approach to zakat allocation, particularly by strengthening its focus on productive economic programs, skill development, business mentoring, and systematic impact evaluations. Such measures are expected to enhance zakat’s contribution to poverty alleviation and support a more inclusive income growth.

Abstract

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance SMEs' understanding of trade zakat and improve their compliance with zakat obligations in Malang City. Using a quantitative approach and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), the study analyzes data collected from SME owners in Malang. The program addresses key factors influencing willingness to pay zakat, including entrepreneurs’ attitudes, zakat literacy, and the role of zakat administrators. The program consists of training sessions that cover the importance and potential of trade zakat, the Fiqh of zakat on trade, and practical methods for calculating and paying zakat. The findings highlight that zakat administration significantly impact SMEs’ willingness to pay zakat, while attitudes toward zakat and religiosity also play crucial roles. Additionally, the results show that attitude and zakat literacy do not affect SMEs’ willingness to pay zakat. The program’s evaluation demonstrates that strengthening zakat literacy and improving zakat administration can encourage SMEs to fulfil their zakat obligations, contributing to poverty alleviation and socio-economic development. These findings offer valuable insights for optimizing zakat collection and utilization to maximize its potential in supporting community welfare.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the implementation of Islamic bank social values as they should have been implemented. This study uses the Maqashid Syariah Index with three main social indicators, namely education, justice, and social welfare. The object of this research are three Islamic banks in Jordan (Jordan Islamic Bank, Safwa, and International Islamic Arab Bank). The results showed that all the banks have a low  Maqashid Syariah Index for all indicators, which meant that the practice of implementing the social values of Islamic banks in Jordan are not close to what people have expected especially for indicators of justice and social welfare. In the future, Islamic banks need to increase social contributions, especially on indicators of justice and social welfare.
