Abstract

Village-level development disparities remain a persistent challenge in Indonesia's broader economic progress. This study aimed to map and analyze regional disparities in village development across 33 provinces in Indonesia from 2018 to 2022, using the Village Development Index (VDI) as a proxy. Employing descriptive statistical analysis and spatial mapping, the study examined the roles of two key factors: human capital, measured by the Human Development Index (HDI), and fiscal transfers, proxied by the Village Fund. The findings revealed that provinces in Java generally achieved higher VDI scores compared to those outside Java, with Bali as a notable exception. The disparities were influenced by the quality of human resources, accessibility to basic services, proximity to economic centers, and the effectiveness of Village Fund management. The study underscored the importance of strengthening human capital, improving governance in fund allocation, and addressing structural inequalities to promote more equitable and sustainable village development. These insights offer valuable implications for national policy and contribute to broader discussions on inclusive development strategies in emerging economies.

Abstract

Background: The development of tourism-based Special Economic Zones is one of the Indonesian government's strategies to drive regional economic growth, attract investment, and reduce development disparities between regions. The Mandalika Special Economic Zone in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara Province, is a national priority project designed as a new growth center through the integration of investment, infrastructure, and the development of world-class tourism sectors. Objective: This study aims to analyze the strategic rationality of area development, identify opportunities for economic, social, and environmental benefits, and evaluate the challenges of implementing inclusive and sustainable development. Methods: The research uses a qualitative approach with a conceptual design through literature studies and analysis of policy documents relevant to the development of special economic zones and tourism development. The analytical framework integrates the theory of special economic zones, the tourism-led growth hypothesis, and the perspectives of sustainable and inclusive development. Results: The analysis results indicate that the Mandalika SEZ has significant potential to drive regional economic growth through increased investment, job creation, strengthening the service sector, and enhancing national tourism competitiveness. Strategic infrastructure and the hosting of international events have also increased the region's visibility on a global level and created economic multiplier effects for supporting sectors, including micro, small, and medium enterprises. However, this study also identifies various key challenges including land acquisition issues, the inclusiveness of development for local communities, pressure on the carrying capacity of the coastal environment, and the complexity of governance and institutional coordination. The long-term success of the region greatly depends on the ability to integrate economic growth with the principles of environmental sustainability and social justice. Conclusion: Therefore, strengthening governance, participatory planning, developing local community capacity, and implementing sustainable development principles are key factors in ensuring that the Mandalika SEZ not only functions as an international tourist destination but also as an instrument for inclusive and sustainable regional economic transformation.

Abstract

This study investigated residents' willingness to pay (WTP) for community-based flood mitigation infrastructure through a Malang, Indonesia, case study of the Glintung Go Green (G3) program. This study aimed to identify the key factors influencing WTP and assess the structural and cultural challenges in sustaining such community-based environmental programs. A mixed method approach was applied, combining focus group discussions (FGDs) with quantitative analysis using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results showed that socio-economic factors and personal motivation significantly influenced WTP, with education levels and perceived direct benefits of the program being the most influential indicators. The average WTP value is IDR 37,273 per month, with a median of IDR 50,000, showing promising potential for participatory financing mechanisms. However, the FGD revealed critical barriers, including low ecological literacy, reliance on external funding, limited community leadership regeneration, and lack of documentation for replication. These findings underscore the importance of institutionalizing environmental values, building local capacity, and leveraging digital tools for program transparency and outreach. The study concludes that community-based environmental programs should integrate financial and institutional strategies to improve long-term sustainability and inclusivity. Future research is encouraged to explore broader psychosocial and institutional factors that influence community participation

Abstract

Extreme poverty and limited economic access remain significant challenges for women in many developing regions, including Mojokerto, Indonesia. In response to these challenges, Islamic educational leadership has increasingly been positioned as a strategic approach to women’s economic empowerment through entrepreneurship. This study aims to examine the role of Islamic educational leadership in empowering women entrepreneurs through the 4P Entrepreneurial Incubation Program, a local government initiative implemented in collaboration with Islamic educational institutions. The program seeks to enhance women’s entrepreneurial capacity by integrating business skills, mentoring, and access to resources with Islamic values such as social justice, honesty, integrity, and community welfare. This study employs a qualitative research Design, using in-depth interviews with women participants, program administrators, and Islamic educational leaders, complemented by document analysis of program guidelines and reports. The findings indicate that Islamic educational leadership plays a transformative role in shaping entrepreneurial development by embedding moral and spiritual guidance within practical business training. This integration not only strengthens participants’ business competencies but also enhances ethical awareness, self-confidence, and resilience. Despite persistent challenges such as limited access to capital and socio-cultural constraints, incorporating Islamic values enables women to navigate obstacles and sustain their entrepreneurial activities. The study concludes that Islamic educational leadership is a critical factor in ensuring the effectiveness, sustainability, and ethical orientation of women-focused entrepreneurial incubation programs. The findings imply that faith-based leadership models can serve as a viable framework for poverty alleviation policies and for promoting women’s economic independence in similar socio-religious contexts.

Abstract

The rapid development of the halal pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry has ranked second in the SGIE 2024/2025 report. This means that consumer demand for halal cosmetics and personal care is increasing. This study aims to analyze the influence of e-WOM, halal awareness, understanding of Islamic consumption, and price perception on purchasing decisions for Glad2Glow halal cosmetics on TikTok. Several studies have highlighted the relationship between e-WOM, halal awareness, and price perception in halal cosmetic purchasing decisions, but there are still few studies that integrate understanding of Islamic consumption as an important variable, especially in purchasing decisions for Glad2Glow halal cosmetics on the TikTok platform. The research method chosen is binary logistic regression analysis with primary data through an online questionnaire for Gen Z Muslim consumers. The results of the study state that the variables e-WOM, halal awareness, understanding of Islamic consumption, and price perception partially influence purchasing decisions for Glad2Glow halal cosmetics on TikTok. This research is expected to be useful for the halal cosmetic industry in designing and developing effective products and marketing strategies to reach Gen Z through social media.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, trust, digital literacy, and religiosity on the decisions of millennials and Generation Z in West Java in making ZIS payments through digital platforms. The research method used is quantitative with binary logistic regression analysis techniques on 110 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The results of the study indicate that simultaneously, all five variables have a significant influence on the decision to make ZIS payments digitally. Partially, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, trust, and digital literacy were found to have a positive and significant influence on the decision to make ZIS payments through digital platforms. Meanwhile, religiosity has a negative and insignificant influence, indicating that the level of religiosity plays more of a role as a foundation that influences the decision to pay ZIS, but is not a determining factor in the choice of digital payment methods.
