Abstract

Abstract

Farmers, producers, and other parties involved in the agricultural production chain of vegetable commodities place a high value on knowing consumer preferences when making decisions on developing and manufacturing agricultural food products. This study aims to investigate consumer behavior and identify information on consumer preferences for both fresh and processed (frozen) potatoes. The study was conducted in Semarang City, using a survey method. Purposive sampling method was employed to recruit 100 respondents, aged above 21 years, residents of Semarang City, and had consumed at least fresh and/or frozen potatoes in the last month. A questionnaire using Google Forms was employed to gather data online. It was distributed via social media platforms. The data collected was analyzed by descriptive and conjoint analysis. The results showed that the most frequent consumption was once a week with regular types of fresh potatoes being consumed; the respondents' spending on potato consumption was ≤ IDR 25,000/ month, and they consumed ≤2 kg of potatoes per week. Potato consumer preferences showed that the fresh potato attributes most liked by consumers are large tuber size, smooth skin, and ≤5 lateral buds, with the number of lateral bud attributes being the most prioritized. The most preferred attributes for frozen potatoes are a straight form, priced at IDR 39,000 to 58,000, batter-coated flavor, 801-1000 gr size packaging, and branded, with the shape attribute being the most prioritized. These findings suggest that farm producers can develop innovative potato varieties with fewer lateral buds and shapes for frozen potatoes.

Abstract

Based on the Spatial Plan of Karanganyar Regency, Dawung Village is mandated as an agropolitan strategic area for food security or wet agriculture. Besides, it is also a center for processing agricultural food crops and local trade. In contrast, the number of farmers decreases (0.8% per year), increasing the risk in the agricultural sector. On the other hand, this village has tourism potential, Kembang Desa, which is appointed as the leading tourist attraction. Kembang Desa was developed in 2020, and after it officially opened, it was attractive, as can be seen from the visitors number that reached 200 to 500 at the weekend. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected the number of visitors, and the village government is facing the operational budget. This situation continues because of many new tourist attractions competitors opened. Hence, economic development and village potential require a reference as a basis for the village government in determining future policies. This community service activity aims to compile a master plan for tourism and economic development in Dawung Village through Integrated Agro Edu Tourism, which focuses on developing agro-tourism integrated with the agricultural system with an tourism education approach. The method used to compile the master plan consists of three stages: socialization to the Village government about the initial design concept. The second stage is Focus Group Discussion (FGD) activities to obtain input regarding potentials, problems, design concepts, and specific needs from partners; the third stage is master plan design finalization. The community service results in a master plan of a Dawung Village hotspot as the guidance for developing local potential so that Dawung Village can be more advanced and competitive.

Abstract

Mangrove resource that people often visit, has characteristics that are quite vulnerable to environmental disturbance. Maroon Mangrove Edupark is a mangrove resource in Semarang, located close to Maroon beach and Ahmad Yani International Airport. The presence of mangroves in Maroon Mangrove Edupark, is expected to protect Maroon coastal area and the airport from the coastal disaster, as well as to make it as a new sustainable ecotourism site. This study assessed the benefits of mangrove resource in Maroon Mangrove Edupark according to visitor perception, and provide the economic valuation toward mangrove plantation in there. Economic valuation measurement employed was TCM (Travel Cost Method). The economic surplus value per individual per visit is Rp 173.010,00. The value indicates the benefits of environmental services greater than the cost incurred. Besides that, only 35,54% of mangrove forest has been utilized. For optimalizing the values, increasing the number of mangroves were planted along with maintenance should be done.

Abstract

Efficiency is important to know to see the success of a farming business. Farming activities in producing a product cannot be separated from the use of production factors. Using production factors appropriately and efficiently will provide benefits for farmers, namely maximum productivity. This research aims to analyze the factors that influence hybrid corn seed production, as well as analyzing technical, allocative and economic efficiency. The research location is Randublatung District, Blora Regency, Central Java. The research method used was a case study of seed breeder farmers in Randublatung District using saturated sampling with a total sample of 53 farmers. The analytical method used is quantitative descriptive analysis which includes influence analysis, technical, allocative and economic efficiency analysis using Stochastic Frontier. The results of the research show that there is a simultaneous influence between land variables, seeds, urea fertilizer, phonska fertilizer, pesticides and labor on hybrid corn production results. The variables of land area, seeds and urea fertilizer partially have a significant effect on production results, while the variables of phonska fertilizer, pesticides and labor partially have no effect on production results. The technical efficiency results of hybrid corn farming in Randublatung District are quite technically efficient with an average technical efficiency value of 0.878. The results of the analysis of allocative and economic efficiency show that it is not yet efficient with average values of 0.337 and 0.293 respectively. Opportunities to increase the efficiency of hybrid corn seed farming in Randublatung District include farmers better allocating inputs according to their needs so that input costs are not large, providing more intensive counseling and assistance to farmers regarding hybrid corn seed cultivation techniques, especially in the use of inputs so that they are more proportional in accordance with recommendations from relevant agencies.
